RANGER COMPLETE FIX:

The focus of this patch is to align the Ranger with the vision of a resilient and consistent damage dealer previously discussed in the CDI. Due to the current design of the ranger, this requires major overhauls. I decided to post this here because the CDI is flooded and likely just a PR event.

MARKSMANSHIP:

-Signet of the Beasmaster: Removed and replaced by Magebane Shot. Signets now affect the ranger and the pet without a trait.

-Opening Strike (5 adept): Opening strike now refreshes automatically every 25 seconds. Vulnerability applied by Opening Strike now lasts 8 seconds.

-Relentless Hunt (15 master): Critical Strikes from the ranger and the pet now reduce the recharge time of Opening Strikes by 1 second. Replaces alpha strike.

-Wounding Strikes (25 grandmaster): Opening strike now refreshes all vulnerability stacks on the target to 8 seconds. Replaces precise strike.

-Eagle Eye (moved to Adept)

-Signet Mastery (moved to Master): Merged with Beastmaster’s Might. Signets now add 3 stacks of might and have a 20% reduced CD time per use.

-Bow Mastery (Master): Reduces CD of Longbow, harpoon, and Shortbow skills by 20%.

-Magebane Shot (Grandmaster): Opening strikes with a bow now stun the enemy for 2s (60s internal CD).

-Prey on the Weak (Grandmaster): Attacks against a target with 15 stacks of vulnerability or more are 25% more likely to critical hit, replaces remorseless.

-Piercing Arrows (Moved to Grandmaster): Causes arrows to pierce the target and increases damage done by bows by 10% when striking a target that has vulnerability.

SKIRMISHING:

-Bait and Switch (Adept): The ranger leaves a random weaker version of viper trap, spike trap, or flame trap when dodging. Replaces agility training.

-Bestial Rage (Master): Replaces Quickdraw. Pets gain quickness when striking a target that is immobilized or stunned (45s CD).

-Trapper’s Expertise (Master): Reduces recharge on traps by 20%, traps now use ground targeting and are larger.

-Rabid Bite (Master): Transfers one condition from the ranger to the enemy when the pet strikes a target (20s ICD). Replaces carnivorous appetite.

-Honed Axes (Master): Axes deal more critical damage, mainhand skills recharge 20% faster and have speed increased attack animations (that reduce aftercast).

-Trap Potency (Grand Master): Functionality changed to add an extra effect to a traps when triggered. Flame trap now blinds for 2 seconds. Viper trap causes weakness. Frost trap deals damage. Spike trap now inflicts torment.

WILDERNESS SURVIVAL:

-Healer’s Celerity (Adept): Now grants 100% vigor to the revived target in addition to its current effect.

-Oakheart Salve (Moved to Adept, replaces expertise training which is removed.)

-Empathic Bond (Moved to Master, martial mastery is moved to nature mastery and merged with Two-Handed Training). Now only converts 2 condition to the pet every 10 seconds instead of 3.

-Shared Malice (New, Master): The pet now gains X% of the ranger’s condition damage.

-I will Survive! (New, Grandmaster): Gain the effects of Signet of Stone at 25% health (80s ICD, affected by traits). Replaces barkskin.

-Marauder (New, Grandmaster): Switching from ranged to melee or vice versa refreshes weapon swap (20s CD, triggers when the ranger moves 600m away or to the enemy).

NATURE MASTERY:

-Two-handed weapon training: Now reduces sword, greatsword, and spear recharge by 20% in addition to its current function (martial mastery was merged with it).

BEASTMASTERY:

-Catch the Prey (replaces instinctual bond, 5pt Adept): The pet now gains swiftness if there is a crippled target within 600m of it.

-Natural Healing (moved to 25 points and nature’s wrath is removed, Grandmaster)

-Fortitude Training (Replaces master’s bond, adept): The pet now gains +25 toughness for each ally within 600m of it to a max of 300.

-Compassion Training: Now causes pet F2s to remove a condition from up to 5 nearby allies in addition to its effect.

-Strength of the Pack (New, Grandmaster): Every 15 seconds, the pet shares the next boon it recieves to up to 5 nearby allies.

SKILL CHANGES:

*Pet F2’s are more responsive.

*PvE content is revisited to grant immunity to the pet for many 1 shot mechanics.

-Sword:
Invincibility frames are now frontloaded on sword animations, allowing the ranger to dodge more reliably when using them.

-Crippling Talon:
Projectile moves faster.

-Whirling Defense:
Now grants stability during its duration.

-Signet of the Hunt:
Functionality changed to cause 8 seconds of cripple to a target then shadow step the pet to the enemy. If the enemy is already crippled, it causes immobilize for 3 seconds. Now has an animation tell of the ranger pointing to the target.

-Antidote Signet:
Now replaces signet of renewal, which is a piece of crap. Removes 3 conditions from the ranger and pet, if a condition removed was poison then the duration of the poison is converted into regeneration.

-“Protect Me!”:
Now teleports the pet to the ranger’s side when used.

-Heal as One:
The ranger and pet are now immune to all condition applications and current condition effects while channeling this skill. Cast time increased to 1.5 but heal increased by 20%.

-“Guard!”
No more cast time. Recharge increased to 30 seconds. Now causes 1 second of reveal for each second an enemy stands in it for the first 8 seconds of its duration.

-Lightning Reflexes: Removes immobilize, chill, and cripple.


I am fairly confident that these suggestions will fix the majority of ranger problems and at least make the class A.) competitive and funner to play and B.) Align the ranger to the goals that the developers outlined in the CDI.

Please note that suggestion will be the FINAL post I ever make on these forums as I no longer support the Ranger class or Guildwars 2.

some of these suggestions are quite good, the rest seems to be very poorly though through.

Also, is this supposed to remedy WvW? PvE? PvP?
Because all i see there is tonns of buffs, most of them borderlining OP when put together.

Because all i see there is tonns of buffs, most of them borderlining OP when put together.

PvE Im not so sure, but in WvW this would make the Ranger anything but OP. We’d still be behind the ball by a nautical mile due to the pet dropping faster than a wet noodle. Then us losing 40% of our dps because of it.

In WvW, it would open up power builds by a large margin. Allowing for much stronger power builds. For those who think power builds are weak, well, it is a steep learning curve on Power builds in WvW, regardless if you run PVT, Zerker, Valkyrie or Clerics. They demand lots of effort, but the return payment is just awesome.
