Idea! (Insert Lightbulb)
Allready have this idea, i’m pretty sure it was allready stated to the dev.
But the dev don’t care and don’t follow this forum, look at the thread started by jon peters, when he have seen that he goes in troubles when rangers community ask for real changes, he vanished….
There is a LOT of ideas to boost ranger :
- rapid fire is become a charging skill (like F1 rifle for warrior) : does massive damage but people can evade it
- change the KB of LB with a cripple or a root (like LB for warrior)
- remove the distance debuff from lb (any class can close the gap instantly with charge, tp, etc…)
- SB don’t have to be positionnal to be effective !
- increase range of shortbow and damage
- spirits become buffs for 5 people in your group ou can call of (spirit of fire, nature etc..), with the same stats but are not anymore stupid pets who die instantly in WvWvW (look at the kitten buffs Rangers in Neverwinter Online can have ! )
- weapons damage is increased to become as good as others class
- traps are revamped to be effective like wells of necros and so you can become a real trapers
- pet is not anymore a necessity to become viable as a ranger but more an option, like GW1 !
Ranger 80 – Warrior 80 – Mesmer 80 – Necromancer 80 – Guardian 80

What in the name of Melandru are you talking about? No. I’ll keep my knockback on a 12 second cooldown, thank you very much. PBS is insanely powerful.
I would also hate to see Rapid Fire changed from a channel to a single shot burst skill, because the stealth tracking is pretty awesome and it has killed many, many Thieves. Maybe reduce the channel time by a second or up the damage a bit.
Longbow really isn’t as bad as people make it out to be, they just insist on using it with pets and builds that don’t give it the TLC it deserves. I say this:
Long Range Shot – Remove lowest damage range, change it to only two different damage ranges. Add Cripple to 1000+ range.
Rapid Fire – Reduce channel time by one second.
Hunter’s Shot – Increase damage to equal max range auto-attack.
Point Blank Shot – Increase range to match the rest of the weapon set, adjust knockbacks accordingly.
Barrage – Shave 6 seconds off of the cooldown, reduce the channel by a little bit.
I couldn’t really ask for more. Speaking from a WvW perspective here.
Ack, I would hate most of these changes. You throw out the good with the bad.
Rapid fire is excellent for having so many attacks for “on crit” and “on hot” dynamics. It shouldn’t be a charged shot but rather should shoot faster or harder.
The knockback on longbow you should never want to give up.
Spirits shouldn’t become just passive buffs because they also provide very nice active abilities. Chill, immobilize and blind are quite helpful especially being AE.
Short bow does need attention but what should we focus on: (lots of debate)
a. Increased range
b. Remove restriction on bleed for autoattack requiring positioning in flank/rear
c. Increased ability damage
d. Return to pre-“fix” speed?
LB skill changes:
Point blank would be my choice for a charged shot as it has lower range anyway. It should do more damage and the greater the charge the farther you throw the enemy back. That could be great fun. In fact, rangers would be more viable if we could throw enemies back father than any other class.
Barrage can root us all day long if it puts us into stealth while attacking (call it cammo). That would also make remorselessness start to make more sense for a LB build.
Hunters shot should stealth even if the shot does not hit.
It needs a shorter channel time or higher damage output I want to keep it like it is personally if one of those two things got changed, virtually every skill we have across all weapons are less damage than autoattack aside from maul on the greatsword, we need more than just autospam I don’t mind the other skills in some cases being less damage because they offer some extra utility but freaking some can be allowed to do extra damage aswell, one of the things that annoy me about rangers is the feeling that we can burst and do damage as good as anyone but only when we have 15traits and utilities avalible for a series of procs and CDs to be blown at the right time while it seems other classes just press 2 or whatever button they have their atomic bomb on…
how about they made longbow stack might on self on critical hits like GS does for warrior longbow is suposed to be the slow HEAVY damage ranged weapon. Maybe its time they made it so because i see a LOT of similarity between longbow and warrior greatsword
1. many multi hit moves
2. heavy auto attack damage
3. both are suposed to be critical damage weapon
so why is longbow STILL not benefiting from this effect

We need both rapid fire to not suck AND a burst skill. Simply dropping rapid fire in exchange for burst really isn’t accomplishing anything.
Better to move Barrage out of the weapon so the class as a whole gets a utility AE skill and put kill shot there.
At least with barrage being a utility skill it could actually do real damage instead of effectively being an AE shortbow shot.
