I am going to quit ranger….sorry there is to many fixes needed for the ranger as a class. I heard from the devs dd ele and trap ranger will be nerfed this patch and this is sad considering how awful we do outside of spvp.

Ranger is a class that relies on its pets a lot(a lot of skills buff your pet) but when your pet is dead in say wvw the ranger as a class becomes handicapped honestly. PLUS there are so many fixes needed:

-Lick wounds still isn’t fixed…
Poooor dmg with greatsword (How does sword out dmg a greatsword? Makes no sense.)
-AI of pet really needs work…. just very stupid. AI mesmer clones are smarter.
-Longbow is just not that good (compare our longbow to warr and you will cry)(tests have been done…shortbow is better. Only thing I like is vulnerabilty honestly. Horn#1 skill> rabid fire imo.
- spirits are still weak even when traited

Most important (to me at least).

Besides wilderness survival and skirmishing our trait lines are just horrible(apart from putting 5 BM). Top reason is signets, spirits, and stupid pet traits in marksman, bm, and Nature magic(although some traits in nature magic are pretty good). You expect me to put 30 in marksman just to use signets that other classes can use straight up? No thanks ill put that 30 in wilderness survival.

I love my ranger (spvp rank 36 from my ranger) and know literally all the ranger builds and tried them inside and out. Ranger is a kitten good class that is underrated and with a few fixes could be top tier. But When devs start saying their going to nerf a very viable build i won’t mind as long as they fix the other stuff that has been in need of fixing for months.

I play WvWvW and PVE too and with the build im using that I spent months on I feel equally balance and at cases top tier to a lot of people. But this is not the case to say a lvl 1 warr who played for the first time today. He/she will be on a equal playing field day one.

i won’t quit being a ranger i love my ranger but i will quit wvw if we get nerfed and spvp. strictly Pve will be my ranger for wvw i’ll do something if anything.

i’ll quit the game. the fact that mesmers, thieves and eles are already so far beyond rangers, engis and necros is a hard pill to swallow. if it gets worse instead of significantly better i’m just going to leave.

Bristleback can’t hit anything? Let’s fix the HP bug instead.

The large patches every month double as balance patches. The next one is Tuesday. Unless something suddenly changes there is every reason to believe that is the next round of balancing.

As for the rest of it, the OP’s “I heard from the devs” is probably referring to the state of the game podcast from the 7th. Which as was covered in another thread did not contain anything even remotely close to devs saying “trap rangers are getting nerfed.” There’s good reason to believe D/D Eles are getting hit but not rangers.

This is just another person over-reacting to some comments about trap rangers being on the ‘watch list’. But if you actually watch that you’ll also see that the devs seem to take what Java said about trap rangers NOT being OP quite seriously. He basically said they aren’t OP just new to the meta and people haven’t figured it out yet.

Anet moves at a snails pace with balancing. No reason to think they’ll rush out a knee-jerk reaction to something new like Trap Rangers.

Just wait 2 days and see what happens but you really shouldn’t be crying foul and doom and gloom about something that likely won’t happen.

Sadly, i’ll probably get rid of my ranger too, or not play it. out of 1300 hours i’ve spent 1100 on my ranger, i’ll probably use my warrior in place.

1.) trap builds suck in pve, why? necro’s do better at conditions, warriors get 160+damage/stack on bleed(check out the war forums, 20stacks of bleed instantly, and warriors easily get 10+might by themselves)

Now, other issues, beyond RaO, horn #5, and the lynx f2, how do we give ourselves might? oh yea, we dont.

And the thing is, yes in pvp the ranger is a kitten powerful class when someone is GOOD with it. if they just started they will suck, but if you take the time to understand the ups-downs you’ll kitten face. But in PvE, the ranger honestly sucks. There’s a reason why I get kicked from COF groups on my ranger. reason is even with a pet we cannot outburst 100B, outbleed Condition warriors, or support better than guardians.
Necro’s can transfer conditions and cleanse group conditions while turning them into boons.

I’m not saying OOOHHH NOO we’re DOOMED!!! but at the same time, really? we have 2 builds viable in pvp, a bm bunker or the trap build. in PVE our lb sucks, sword’s damage is meh(1100-1800 damage)and in my eyes, the best dps anyone can really get is with Magi/zerker with 30bm(sword+horn) with dual felines.

even a spirit buff, sun spirit needs to get 2x damage at least to be decent in a group(and it needs to effect pets no matter what, pets should not count as people) i think full condition build it does 2400damage burning? it should do 5k a person over the course of 2-3seconds. stone spirit needs to give stability, frost spirit needs to increase damage by at least 15-25% and have it last 6seconds with a 4 second cooldown, the storm spirit should give swiftness and give allies fury.

why is it the warrior can give perma fury and stacks of might with their utilities yet our support utilities are waay underpar(yes spirits specifically)

I know its a lot to ask but having more interrupts like stuns and knock backs would be nice, we only have our bows to do that and even then the shortbow is a one second stun and only from behind. I know pets have cc too but they are too unreliable as is to really count them.

Actually just a way to control our pets more precisely would solve many of the ranger’s problems.

a way to control our pets would be nice, but it wouldnt solve that many problems.in the end guildwars 2 is not really toughness dependent so to say, everything revolves around pure dps. the ranger and d/d ele are excellent dodgers and have good mobility(great survival) but where will that aid anyone or any team? at high level fotm berserker gear is optimal, cof-berserker warriors. cursed shores the mobs are too easy to kill, and Anet reduced the mob density.

So while we can get more stuns and better pet controls, it would make us better at pvp, but not at pve, considering in order to get optimal dps we need to focus on marksman,skirmishing and beast mastery. with bm build our dps will be highest i believe with a mix of MAGI/Zerker 15/25/0/0/30, and at that point in a dungeon say a mes drops TW, your pet will not get it because players get it before pets, and tw has a player limit of 5. even then, in cof with 3war+me in the tw, i have yet to see my pet get quickness from it.

I couldn’t care less about trap rangers. If they nerf trap rangers to the ground and increase the longbow dmg only by 1%, I will have an overall positive feeling about the patch, not that it will happen.

Same, but to be fair I run with a group that isn’t condition heavy. I love throwing traps and using search and rescue in dungeons. Something just feels right about being the guy in a dungeon that remembered to bring a torch, ha!

hmmm since my guild plays with 25 stacks perma vulnerability, i´m get on glasscannon shortbow and its deals more dmg than the trapper condi build even with you up to 2k condition dmg, but the 25 stacks+frost spirit are amazing, if you get the right position for the spirits they can live 95% of the time, you just need to test and look a bit right places.

and i dont get why everyone say ranger will be nerfed, they say nothing about that.

Haha you mean post started October 23, 2011 by a Dev and then ignored. It was a PR thing as nothing in that thread has really came to light. 4 Month old “we are aware of issues and are fixing them” Just does not make we fell all warm and fuzzy as you seem to take it.

1st you have the archer with range and piercing arrows traited
2nd the Trapper utilising all the trait skills that enhance that gameplay
3rd the beastmaster running the pet enhancing traits & skills
This variability ultimately means you have to sacrifice one thing for another , and then compensate via gear and runes etc. to get a more than halfway decent build .
add to that how much support healing do you want to give your teammates and you probably have 4 sub-classes eg Spirits, and if you choose that your’e gonna have to trait so they move with you.

And that in my opinion that diversity is probably why there are so many issues with the ranger, ie too many choices for the player , and for devs to fix and balance without breaking something else.

Just posted this in another thread , but maybe devs and players alike can give it some thought.

He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster.

I’ve thought much the same thing but I’ve always thought of it more like this:

Traps: 20-30 points
Longbow: 30-50 points (50 conflicts with 30 traps)
Shortbow: 20-40 points (40 conflicts with 30 traps)
Pet: 30+ points
Personal Survival: 30+ points (multiple options, all 30 points)
Spirits: 30 points

Basically it’s a case of “Pick 2 and throw the remaining points somewhere.”

Almost everything about the ranger is like that. If you want to use it even half-way decent it’s 20+ trait points going somewhere.

I know other professions invest 20+ points into things to make them better too but after leveling a Thief, Guardian, and Mesmer to 80 I realized the “Must invest to make it good” is not shared across those other professions. My guardian uses a greatsword or hammer a lot of the time. Not a single trait went to a greatsword, hammer, or 2 handed weapon trait and I don’t feel gimped for it. Mesmer is similar, doesn’t matter how you trait things are useful/good. You trait to make it even better than good.

However I’m leveling a thief for www and a warrior for fractals.

Developer Jon Peter’s words, not mine. They’re glaring in-your-face problems.

Any nerf to this class without the direly needed fixes to the aforementioned problems (fixes that were promised 5 months ago aaaargh!), will create nothing less than outrage.

I remember when Jon said all those things months ago and was really hopeful and nothing change significantly. We will see with this next patch because as the way things are now im tired of feeling gimped and unwanted in this game in pve and wvw.

Rangers have been getting pummeled with the nerf bat since GW1, so whatever foam-padded punishment we get that doesn’t render us completely useless in any environment probably isn’t going to bother me that much. I remember not being to join PUGs and getting kicked from parties in GW1 because of my class, finding solace only with other Rangers (and some Necromancers and Monks, of course) in Tomb of the Primevil Kings as a B/P, so being marginalized and excluded by the other classes in GW2 is really nothing new. :T

i heard that only rangers will have their aqua breather nerfed and be forced to surface once per minute for air. i’m pretty sure this was done to balance out their underwater damage boost from a previous patch.

New Main- 80 Thief – P/P- Vault Spam Pro

221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.

I love how people think Longbow is bad… yet every test out there where you include barrage, and you know, flanking on the longbow like you would the shortbow while using +25pts in skirm puts the longbow significantly ahead of short bow… yup, longbows broken… TOTALLY…

And good, leave, if you’re going to be one of those people that QQs everytime we get nerfed because we’re apparently “broken” go. Reroll to warrior if you seem to love that so much, personally there’s nothing they can do to really -nerf- us only thing they can do to nerf our strongest build is to make our pets scale from our stats instead of have their own, but if that happens there will be a kittening uproar.

I have played ranger trough GW1, Aion and now in GW2. I love the profession itself, though i am pretty much close to level my lowbie Warrior. The worst thing is that every other profession is easily outclass us in every way. We can say we are quite good in this and that BUT we are not the best in anything.

Range damage? Even a Warrior is doing more dmg with the longbow than us and our shortbow dmg is a joke since the beta nerf. Also if we want to survive in WvWvW we have to cut down our dmg close to nothing and we will still die much earlier than any heavy armored teammate.

Condition dmg? The so called weak necro does this 10 times better not to talk about the transferring conditions.

Support? Guardians and Healing based eles are far better than us in every way in this. If just our spirits would get an aoe resistance we could be at least good in support but recently what we have? A warhorn Nr5 and a healing spring. Wohooo.

Aoe? Beside Traps only 1 aoe weapon skill? For an archer? Seriously? And that 1 root us to the floor for 1-2 sec even with QZ? Our whirling axe skill is the only “spinning around” skill that root the user if he wants to complete the movement?

Our Pet is only hitting downed players while 50% of the time not healing us and dies in WvW zergfight after 5 sec before you can press at least their F2 ability which is not triggering 70% of the time on first button push.

The class is broken recently. Hopefully they realize it sooner than later.

People play classes for only certain builds which is pointless, due to the fact that all over powered builds are going to get nerfed.

Hybrids are the way to go because they don’t depend on anything overpowered.

The devs know how ticked off the ranger community is already so I don’t think we’ll see too much nerfing. That Feb 7th video certainly doesn’t bode well, but their comments regarding taking trappers down a notch are specific to sPvP I think (hope). I half expect them to remove the immobilize from spike trap at some point and call it a bug fix as it isn’t mentioned in the tooltip, but I still reckon we’ll see more buffing than nerfing, if in fact we see any changes at all.
