So HoT is coming within the month, and I am left here wondering if I want to stay with a ranger as my main. While the new pets have a wonderful theme (omg I do love the fire wyvern) they don’t address the issue with pets, that is with hitting people in spvp and surviving in wvw and a lesser extent pve. This issue is critical and one of the biggest issues why ranger is one of the worst classes in the game for all forms of content. Druid is a nice theme, and I will be running a healing druid for wvw zergs, and pve raids, but I am tired of waiting for core ranger to be fixed.

Really thought things can change, but they won’t. ArenaNet doesn’t care about core ranger it is abundantly apparently as they have yet to really engage the community about the core ranger which is in a broken state.
it really has little to do with pets. that’s just a SMALL part of what needs fixing. core ranger has 4 unusable weapons, almost a dozen unusable utilities, half a dozen bad traits, and yes, a bunch of bad pets.
the core ranger will literally be eaten for breakfast by the elite specs come launch, while the druid might have a niche role or two. we just don’t have the “new tech”, we don’t have the tools to fight em. we’re working with baggage from the days of vanilla release.

Right. Which is why I’m going to play the heck out of GW2 until launch….then quit until they fix the Ranger. As once HoT launches WvW will never be the same again (for the worse).
Druid is really a compounding problem on the Ranger. The core is broken, adding a niche spec isn’t helping things.

Although I think Irenio is a good dev, and is doing a good job with Druid so far, the WHaO change and rapid nerf showed me that the devs dont really understand, or have a vision for, Ranger.

And in the meantime, you get ppl claiming that landing taunt is extremely easy despite all those pathing issues and our pets should hit for even less damage due to them being AI based.
Anyway, I don’t think that much will be changed for rangers. Traps/spirits are most likely staying the way they are now. The elite spec, druid will only serve to push rangers further into being a niche class that wouldn’t be good for anything much other than healing if ANET decides that one needs a lot of investment into healing power to get anything much out of the spec.
I’m thinking that things will be rough for rangers in pvp come HoT. Almost every profession get access to projectile destruction/reflection which will make marauder LB ranger not too viable while going pure melee can be highly risky against elite specs like reaper.

As you mentioned, you learn from history instead of hoping for something different, and was planning on playing a Revenant instead of Ranger for PVE once HoT released. Druid reveal got me excited enough though that I canceled my plans on switching PVE mains.
Unfortunately, history has repeated itself and the Ranger class got the least amount of attention and the Druid shows it imo as it feels only about 50-60% as polished as some of the other elites. (Chronomancer for example feels about 90% polished and really about the best Mesmers could have asked for.)
The reality is that even if Druid gets more attention beyond HoT, it will take months if not years for it to get to the polished state that I’m looking for now that betas are over, so will probably make the switch to try out Rev and keep Ranger on the backburner once HoT releases.

Don’t worry, it’d be all nerf throughout the first 3 months, because whenever ranger gets something, Roy, along with other non ranger players will all jump, and then Roy will nerf it to the ground. This has been proven by history.
