So I am fairly new to this game and have got a hold of a level 80 cleric set for my ranger. I really want to know if this will be any good for me or if its just plain useless. Most ranged archers in games such as GW2 I’ve seen never go such stats.

You can get some pretty cool regen bleed builds going but honestly stay away from it until you understand the class a bit more imo

ranger is the best class for healingpower as a stat. your main heal + sigil + regeneration + beastmaster grandmaster trait, they all profit from the stat. you can achive more than 2000hp/second with troll urgent and the elite spirit. no other class is as potent in self healing as the ranger.

The trait does not benefit from healing power in the slightest. It is deadlocked at 125/3 seconds for player and 125/second for pets.

This is false, it’s deadlocked for the player, NOT the pet.

@OP: ranger may be THE best prof (other than maybe a staff ele) to use healing power on due to how well our heals scale off of the stat, and due to the absolutely ridiculous amount of regen uptime we have, and then if you go BM you do get 10% of it as power which isn’t GREAT, but it helps balance you out a little.

Sorry durrz, but so far, i cannot see any proof of the pet gaining any bonus, the healing stays 125/tick and atm i run my clerics gear, which means i got 1725 Healing power with 25 life stacks.
Build, full clerics 0/0/10/30/30, ascended trinkets (mostly) ascended longbow, ascended helm, chest, legs – all cleric. Mango ice-cream food.

Trait; me – ticks 125/3 seconds, and 125/second for pet. If you want i can record it.
Signet of the Wild is the one where pet benefits the most, whereas players get 62+0.06*Healing Power, and pet gets 125+0.25*healing power.

PS; im ingame now, and actually my bear doesnt get any ticks from the trait at all. I get 133/3 seconds, bear – nothing, nix, nada….
Seems weird, cuz that trait worked perfectly fine a few days ago when i ran my regen ranger… Maybe i didnt notice, but it may be broken for some reason that is completely unknown to me.
It should heal me for 125/3 sec and pet 125/sec if infocard/internal skill info is correct…. but it doesnt….

Edit; yes the pet was damaged, i deliberately told it to eat a hammerswing from the LA assault knight. Took 70% of its HP in one swing. So yes, it should have ticked. Only time it got any ticks was when it activated its own regen skill (bite). Other then that, no healing. I made sure to only run the trait and not use shout regen or SotW

Hmmm, i got on to check it myself and i’m not seeing it ticking at all either, i had tested this a few months ago and there WAS an increase (pretty minor increase, but it was there).

More ranger stealth nerfs (a bug granted) yaaaaaaaaay!!

Don’t read further if you aren’t referring to PvP or WvW. If PvE, just skip reading what’s below. For PvE, just go full Berserker!

It is.

Especially when you pair it with Toughness and Empathic Bond (or even SoRenewal on top of those).

It comes with costs though.

Anyone else who’s tanky built will just live through your damage and you theirs.

It’s a good build if you are just learning because you can make a lot of mistakes and get a feel for how other people play. Later on, you can switch to a more offensive build because you know the tells and typical patterns people do which allows you to evade those and then strike.

When I first played a regen build, I was surprise at how many kills I got in comparison to deaths. Don’t misunderstand this, I barely died because I was so tanky!

Anyway, the major problems were (WvW) that it took a very long time to kill someone which gave plenty of time for reinforcements to come, taking camps took a long time and that anyone could escape whenever they wanted.
It came with some perks too. When small scale roaming, people usually focused me to later realise that they really can’t do anything because I’m so tanky (Protection and around 1800hp/sec on top of toughness and 4 conditions transferred per sec) and my teammates could just hammer them.

There was once a group of 4 enemy thieves roaming in WvW so I asked if there is any roaming necro around so we could kill them thiefs. What happened after was that once we found the thief group, all 4 of them focused me so I started running in circles to get them stacked and then used Entangle. It obviously caught them all and my necro friend used fear and other CC’s plus his AoE bombs to kill them off. Noob thieves.

With clerics, you should use Greatsword with Sword and Dagger. Your main damage will come from well timed poison which reduces the enemy’s healing. Your second damage source comes from Knockback + Maul which isn’t much but still around 1k in total. Use up your Endurance before using the evades on Sword and Dagger because it will have time to fill up. Leave 1 second spaces between evade skills

If you put 30 in BM, be sure to pick Eagle because their F2 skill helps a lot and when you activate it, don’t spam F2, just press it once.

Necros will hate you, because you can literally walk into their AoE skills.
Engineers are tricky, they require well timed dodges. (The torment and confusion is a killer)
Mesmers are annoying because you have zero AoE, but your pet can always find them if you specifically targeted the mesmer and pressed F1.
Guardians can take ages to kill. I litteraly fought one for 15 minutes and we were always very close to killing eachother but it simply wasn’t possible.
Warriors are easy if you can dodge their CC.
Elementalists are easy too except those tanky healing ones…

I’ll use Cleric gear and a healing power build when in zergs in WvW. The Power (and investment into beastmastery) ensures I do enough damage to still get all my bags. but since my healing power gets up to around 1900, I can get a pretty awesome level of healing (for me and allies) going on when using the right combination of runes and sigils with my skills. Its also about the only time that Nature’s Wrath is actually a useful trait, since it gives 190 bonus power when my healing power is as high as it is. Because of how Signet of the Wild scales with healing power, you can get over 600 hp per second of healing on your pet, passive. Makes a big difference in keeping it alive just long enough that it counts. I just wish that some of our heals would benefit from the healing power, such as natural healing, some of water spirit’s effects, and the spirit of nature.

Please STOP USING EMPATHIC BOND
it is a terrible trait. It hurts YOU more then it helps you. Anyone saying anything else is a fool.

How? I know its not great, but its one of the best traits we’ve got.

It destroys your pet, which is a large portion of your damage, it doesn’t matter if the pet isn’t DYING from the trait, if it’s taking cripple, chill, and weakness the thing may as well be dead.

It does matter if the pet isn’t dieing from the trait. It can still deal damage.
You completely missed the fact that the pet will barely have any problems if there are points in BM, but if not; the ranger has CC, Evade and other kind of crap which can be used for a much greater benefit than some animal that would otherwise only be used for damage.

The fight isn’t lost when the pet dies, it is lost when the ranger dies. That is why it is better if the pet has the cripple

Ranger is kind of a deadline now. If you have acceptable heal, you have no damage.

A dead ranger does no damage.
A living ranger does some even if his pet is dead.
A ranger that loses his pet loses a lot of his damage.

Good arguments for and against empathic bond.

Oh ANet, you must really hate rangers to make our best condition removal impact the survivorability of a third of our damage that is at best “wonky”.

How is your pet gonna deal damage when it’s crippled or chilled? It will literally never be able to attack your target unless they are standing still or the pet is ranged, this will cut the balls off your pet rendering any CC or damage it WOULD bring useless and leave it nothing more than a condi sponge. That’s a HUGE chunk of damage, and if you’re a BM ranger that is 50% of your damage your just removing.

And as you said, we have plenty of CC and Evades so use those instead of gutting your pet and you’ll be amazed how much better you’ll do.

The easiest way to jump into healing power with a ranger is to check out a conditions build with Apothecary gear; there are many variations but the gear is the basis for the build.
