My build was focused around black jaguar. Is there ANY build now with decent damage?

Only the Trap Ranger now. Meaning that build is going to get nerfed next month just so they can get rid of our class. <_<

Ranger isnt really a class based on having use anymore.

Tons of builds. If you look at my might ranger high level FOTM build, you basically get huge damage spikes from pet due to companion’s might, high crit, and peircing arrows with shortbow. It’s awesome to have 25 stacks of might on the pet from a poison volley into a mob. It’s great to keep up 10 stacks of might on the pet just by piercing a few enemies. It’s pretty insane.

Yes one focused around the black jaguar… they still do almost the same dps if you change nothing at all, add companion’s might on a critspec and your jaguar does alot more dps than before this time with high damaging bleeds too, we can now do condition spec damaging bleeds through our pet in berserker armor.

In PvP rangers still make excellent backpoint holders with the same exact BM builds, because of the survival and condi output not being nerfed at all (actually fixed with dagger and offhand training bugs being resolved).

Healing traps are fine, rabid traps are fine, and in PvE/WvW I’m running a power/healing mix with knights/clerics/amulets and 20/20/30/0/0 with a longbow and its the best the longbow has ever been since launch.

in tpvp, yes ranger is useless now

but without this nerf the ranger was allrdy not best choose for a good team,
because bm ranger is a do much solo action build… nothing for teamfights

and most sad is, that ranger have not more viable builds atm
the nerf was not so hard for bm rangers or tanky ranger builds

it was more hard for allrdy broken builds like trapper ranger
or shortbow condi ranger

the longbow buffs, second hand axe buff and naturemagic buffs are not usefull enough to create some nice builds

at naturemagic buff only nice trait is the new one, but for this one you have to use shouts.. but most shouts are just bad and i dont use guard because it have low cooldown just to have perma regen and perma swifness when its a useless skill…

the trap ranger was allrdy gone when the hgh engi was found, so necro is not the reason why no more trap ranger is running around :P
i miss the good old times when i was play trapper ranger…

I got a couple things I specifically asked for: combination of vigorous/spiritual knowledge into one adept trait, as well as a way to run fast. Rangers should be running fast, don’t you think? We had to use rune of speed (meh) before along with a signet just because we didn’t have a reliable way to stack swiftness. Now, with nature’s voice, rangers are arguably a must have in 5 man havoc squads, definitely a run for top tier.

Yeah, I logged in, respec’d my traits, and now I don’t know where to start. I mainly do PvE/Dungeons/WvW. I guess I’ll build DPS around LB and Axe/axe and totally drop shortbow to start with. I think I’m totally dropping beastmastery, too. Switching my jaguar for… hound and spiders maybe? I think the nerf to pet damage in PvE was not needed.

So to be a good havoc group, you need guardian and elementalist? Let me make sure I’m getting all of this because it’s pretty funny. Tell me, what makes up a good havoc squad? I wouldn’t know, it’s not like I don’t havoc in T1 every day vs guilds that would make your server cry. But why would I know?

Even if the ranger goes down in havoc, it can be a good thing.

Edit: I’m sorry for being mean. By the way, Nature’s Voice basically means we don’t need greatsword anymore for mobility in wvw. I’m running double bows right now and testing a few things. Once I get going in zerg and havoc I’ll record some video and the number of bags/badges I get tonight.

Ignore the Naysayers. I have had no problems adapting and getting in groups. You Just have to adapt.

ranger isn’t useless now but since there is no reason to throw points into BM for quickness anymore the class has lost capitalization on it’s class mechanic for many people that do not put anymore then 15 trait points in BM, pets are weaker so the class mechanic is weaker as a whole. the class is still there though.

Are you upset I pointed out how bad your spirit placement was in the video you posted showing that your party buff skill wasn’t buffing your party 90% of the time and your ranger 50% of the time? That was the strangest thread to show off how good spirits are when the video showed how little they actually helped. Seeing that (and your bunker dungeon build – why bring a bunker when you can bring a vastly superior glass guardian, mesmer or warrior?) makes it difficult to take some of your boastful posts seriously, even when approached with an open mind.

Or are you upset that people don’t believe that tier one means anything about player skill in WvW? It’s hilarious seeing players boast about how their coverage filled servers are so much more skilled than servers like Anvil Rock, despite the sPvP rankings indicating otherwise.

If you think a pet with 25 might stacks is so powerful, imagine a class that can do that with a high DPS weapon, banners, perma fury and spread it around with the entire party (not to mention higher base defensive stats and no reliance on a kitten AI companion). You don’t need to because it exists in the form of the warrior.

I don’t usually pick on your posts because even if I disagree with some things it’s interesting to see someone try and make lesser used skills and builds work. Despite that you frequently boast about tier one and your leet skills as a given seeing as you are tier one and it just pushes it too far. I get you want to defend the class in the onslaught of all this negativity, and I see most of your posts as attempts to counter balance the criticism (even the ones that reach) but tier one boasting is just nonsense.

I don’t think the ranger is useless, I think there are some good things to come out of this patch (I do think spirits always were and still are terrible skills) but the bad outweighs the good and a lot of the bad seems unjustified and confusing. Rangers didn’t see a lot of shortbow play in sPvP prior to this patch and nerfing bunkers (which was needed) isn’t going to make the shortbow more viable (just like nerfing the shortbow doesn’t make the longbow more viable). A lot of rangers are frustrated that this patch is hurting all ranger builds and even targeted ones that weren’t competitive to begin with. It doesn’t appear to be any easier to competitively build outside of BM Bunker/Trapper builds in sPvP and the class DPS is actually worse in PvE despite it being far from the best before the nerfs. The class isn’t useless and there were some nice things to come out of this patch, but given the current state of things it’s unsurprising that some players feel like the class lacks direction.

The Ranger is currently in a really sad state. I ran the new story dungeon today. After 10 minutes I logged out of my Ranger in disgust and went with my Guardian. After that we progressed fine trough the dungeon.

My Ranger was my first character. I love the Artstyle and how it plays. But in PVE the Ranger is simply annoying me so much that I need to log out before I do bad things to my Keyboard/Mouse/Monitor.

The class is my favorite but lets face it, it was always sub-par. The new patch lowers their damage further and buffs the most useless mechanic in the game, spirits. They can’t dodge like a thief, hit like a warrior or spam conditions like the necromancer. What can they do anymore? The update did have some good things (I like the ax), but to insist on using the awful spirit trait line, making the ranged class get closer, and nerfing the pets has made the rangers so sub par… I don’t know if I want to play my favorite toon anymore.

Jaguars still have ridiculously high crit chance while stealthed, its just not 100% anymore.

(2061 base precision – 822) / 21 = 59% base crit chance

59% base crit + 25% stalk bonus crit chance = 84% crit chance when stealthed

With 30 points in BM, thats an additional 14% for a total of 98% crit chance. I doubt a 2% decrease in crit chance is gonna be a big enough factor in Jaguar spike.

The Feline Maul skill was nerfed by 50%. It used to do something like 4k-5k damage, now it’s reduced to 2k-2.5k. But it is on a 20s cd and Feline auto attacks are untouched so Felines are still top DPS pets albeit a tiny bit weaker.
