With the current state of rangers in pvp its hopeless for me I have too get so frustrated every day. The closest class we have in terms of role in normal pvp is warrior, but they just destroy us in everything, more hps, more armor, more healing, more damage, easy acces to stability, 2 immunity too damage, and 1 immunity too conditions.

I can shoot a warrior for a couple of minutes and he just ignores it with healing trinket + adrenaline healing, and thats me being almost full glass cannon for max dps, so he just turns around stuns me then owns me in 2s after I spent 2 min shooting him in the back.

Thats not about skill its just the game being broken. Several classes is broken like that now, extreme defense combined with extreme offense the game was never suppose to be like that, it was suppose to be a trade off. Rangers are the only balanced class left, which makes them very underpowered now compared to the other classes.

… shshsh…. you are inviting the “you are not good enough” crowd to go on about how you are.. well … not good enough.
See? The real good rangers will tell you all is well (which is not true and they know it) and the rest should remain silent cause… how dare you!

There is literally no reason at all almost every team in both NA and EU in the ToL ran rangers, they have no idea what they’re doing. No ranger can possibly compare to a warrior.

I am of the opinion though that a ranger player has to work their kitten off, to achieve what some classes’ can do just by rolling their face on the keyboard.

While it’s true rangers can keep up with the best of them, not all classes were made equal and ranger is less equal than others.

i always get trashed on the forums for my opinion but with my melee ranger most warriors and guards are the easiest to kill only problem i have is necro/mes

How can one play a ranger and not have hope. Yes at first glance it seems that other classes have it better. They have it easier but not better. Classes like thieves have stealth and blind. After you learn to overcome these two things thieves are cake.

As Ranger we don’t have the ability to spam one or two types of mechanisms. This is a good thing. We have access to almost everything the others have. We can push we can pull, we can kd, we can fear, we can stealth. We can do this all in one build.

Gw2 is all about avoiding damage. To many of us are too focus on dealing damage. With above push, pulls etc not only are we not at predict able when avoiding the damge we are able to dish damage out at the same time.

Yes there are counter there are counter for everything but with a ranger you don’t have to put all your eggs in one basket and you always have other options.

So yes there is hope as ranger we need to really appreciate what we are capable of doing and not try to be like the other classes.

In dungeons people like stealth and ports with these and other ability that are desired in dungeons 9 times out of 10 they are making up for the short coming of players.

There is a steep learning curve for rangers many of the thing we complained about a year and a half ago are no longer real issue. Most of them were learn to play issue.

Those of us who have stopped and come back are having the same issue. While those of us who have been here since launch don’t view these issues in the same way.

Pet death: Those of us who have been here from the start and learned to keep our pets alive before the buff have very little issues since they have been buffed.

Pet aggo: Pet no long agro mobs on their own. Those of us that learned to manage out pet when the could agro don’t have issues of pet putting us in combat like new players do.

Some Rangers are asking if power build will ever be viable. From my view point power build have always been better of putting down targets. Condi is too slow imho yet they do offer a tiny bit more stability.

Wvw Ranger are great roamer and as for zerging we need to learn to pick our targets and manage our pets better.

Things I would like to see as a ranger is pet scaling with gear and a keybind for stowing as well as passive/guard.

Ranger sucks….. stop. Here is nothing to discuss about, don’t come here and tell me you are not skilled because i killed the 85% of ranger that i’ve meet in pvp and they were most of the times champion hunter, legendary champion etc…… I’m playing this class from day one, there is nothing that ranger can do better than other classes, and don’t come here and say but rangers do all good and nothing better, because it’s not true !!! I read about ranger can have stealth and much more in only one build………. pls and i repeat pls tell me wich build do you use because i’m curious, if i want to be condition spirit and have stealth too i can’t, i must have to use longbow and that sucks for traits and mechanisms, if i want to stealth i can use a power build, but also the 3rd skill of the longbow sucks as well, because i must hit the target for get stealth !!! Unfair in my opinion!!! we can have stealth with a trait called camouflage, and it sucks too. why ? because i can have stealth only for 3 seconds and i must remain in the place so if i have an aoe under me, i will take all the damage or i can just move and make the trait useless…… A lot of pets sucks for example moa, i really don’t know what they are good for, and ursine !!! pls tell me why i should use ursine, for a random stuff ??? Let’s talk about elite skills, i’m fine with the spirit and the rampage as one but entangle it’s the worst elite skills of the ranger, it immobilize but you can break out you can cure the immobilize condition you can shadow step away you can blink away you can break them pretty easly!!! why anet don’t make entangle not a condition but a penality, that if you don’t destroy the roots you can’t never and i repeat never break out the only way to escape should be to break those roots. Pets can’t avoid, you can’t see their buffs, i don’t understand why a class that focus on pet should be not able to have a exclusive board for him where it shows buffs, for example might and vigor etc….
Another thing that i don’t understand it’s what are we ?!!! we are not archer we are not hunter, i guess the nearest definition is a set between an archer and a druid, but i still don’t see why we can’t use staff then, really spirits and staff should be a great variant to the class and maybe could take a great place in pvp team like supporter in middle, and the last thing that i don’t understand why give mesmers stealth when they have already a lot of things !! like portals, teleports, invulnerability, and don’t give rangers an utility skill that can make us stealth or that can make us able to do some smoke combo !! i think rangers after thief should be the most silent class in the game !!! That’s all, and people don’t come here and write l2p, cuz i bet you are one of those that use warriors, the easiest class in the game

Ranger are Ranger no other definition needed if you understand the word. Aargon from lord of the rings is a Ranger. Drittz Do’urden is a Ranger from the Dark elf trilogys and the forgotten realm. He often travels with an ethereal Jaguar. These two iconic figures are what Rangers in MMO are based on. WoW hunter is a distorted view of a ranger and as such is called a hunter not ranger.

I don’t doubt that you have put down many Rangers. Ranger have a very steep learning curve. PvPer have a tendence to dismiss a lot of skill because it isn’t optimal.

In only using a handful of skills traits you are very predictable. Predictable is the worst thing you can be in pvp.

I have a lvl 80 of every class and in the last 3 day I have been playing my warrior not because I enjoy it but because I am doing map completion.

As far as Entangle yes it’s not the best skill that doesn’t mean you cant make it work for the bleeds and the immobilize or to simple let them blow a dodge or clean so you can catch them with another attack.

I will take 5 ranger over 5 of any other class. A lot of the Ranger issue’s are a l2p issue not all of them.

Some of the people who complained about the 1h sword a year ago swear by it today. Those that have stuck with it mastered the weapon, others gave up and still complain.
Also I know for a fact that both your system and connection speed can majorly impact how efficient you are with it. So its not always just a l2p issue.

If you believe there is no hope for the class why continue to play it. There isn’t a class a ranger can’t beat. I don’t think there is a limit of how good you can play a Ranger it just takes longer. I do believe there is a limit for all other classes.

The guardian it’s the only class that i usually use with the ranger but, i love the ranger, the idea of being natural but powerfull at the same time and have a pet at your side, the only thing that i regret it’s to felt in love with it XD i like the lore and the history of the class, and i like the gameplay but i recognize that anet it’s keeping nerf us instead to buff a bit and for buff i mean, repositioning of traits, give us the staff and bring back the old shortbow, and maybe re-design the longbow, if they will do those things ranger will be not hate anymore and i think that people will stop to complain

Rangers do require a little more knowledge of their skills and the general mechanics of the game to be able to perform on the same tier with a class that requires little to no effort.

For myself, i have found Warriors to be an easy class to shut down.
Rampage as one is a must have elite to face them, the stability it grants is the main
staple in dealing with warriors CC. Most of these warriors do not know what to do once their CC have been cancelled out. Timing is everything, we have plenty skills to interrupt foes with. Longbow skill 4, short bow skills4,5, Great Sword skills 4,5 just to name a couple.

Pet wise, it is important to run a balanced team of pets in order to cover your weaknesses. If space between you and your opponent is an issue you should run a wolf for its Fear to try to keep that distance between you two. If you need an addition healing, run fern hound.

By no means is ranger at a state that it should be; however, with a little bit of time and dedication you can make it a fun and entertaining match.

im a newbie as a Ranger, played as main guardian and I can say that longbow ranger is abit opish in pvp imo, climb to a spot where they cant reach you and abuse the 1500 range with the +10k crits(i dont bother cap or whatever since is PVP not “rush the forking map” as aNet wants, thats why we need deathmach not this cr4p of pvp), they try come to you? push em down and laugh at them,a thief try to ruin you? use the doble axe 5 for 8k crit and switch to longbow for other 10k, I realy enjoy ranger in pvp while I realy hate guardian now.

I always abuse the range of ranger/hunter class in mmos, is their best wepon, the key of succeding with ranger imo is to never allow ur enemy to reach you if you master that ull be OP and annoying as fork. Many ppl say that bow rangers are usless, If I wanted a mele dps I would go warrior in the first place, but yes im with OP the ranged wepons of warriors should do less damage. Warriors should be abit tunned down, now they have more HP than a guardian and most DPS in the game, not to mention serveral defensive skills that only the guardian should hav them in the first place.

unfortunatly Gw2 is not a solid mmo, there is no counters to some skills of certan clasess, take invisibility for example, in 99% of the mmos the ranger/hunter class are the ones specialized to counter that, here they do jack shlte in this game, a thief can sneak arround you whidout any risk at all.

Well, the nature of Sword mechanics gives rangers a higher level of effort needed in itself. It’s a really demanding weapon imo but also very good if used right, so if you’re using it there is a pretty high variance of player prowess… there is a bunch of weapons like that for ranger actually, if not on the sword level.

I play six different classes and while I am not the one that pvps everyday, when I do I find it toughest on my ranger (and the ele). Other classes like guardian or mesmer is fun and sometimes challenging but it’s more straightforward in ‘what you have to/should do in situation x’, if that makes sense.

But I also find rangers to be really difficult to face if they are good, though it is more in a WvW roaming perspective, as I do little sPVP. Hard to disengage from, hard to engage as well, most times.

I play a glass survival Longbow Sword/Warhorn ranger and without protect me and signets I find while I may be glassy, I kill people far quicker and with correct dodging and kiting I don’t find it a problem at all.

@OP why don’t you try to get with one of the rangers in this forum to teach you the ‘ways of killing everything pvp and laugh about it later with your bear’?

If you feel you’re not competent enough just ask right here in this forum if there are strong pvp rangers who can share their techniques and maybe even go as far as training you (for example I am one of them). You can play along side one and learn from their pointers and from your mistakes as well. In no time you should be competent enough to only be defeated by 20% of the top tier pvp population alone, most pvp players cannot properly handle a well prepared battle ready ranger in my experience.

And still u are missing the point completely, how again is it fair too shoot someone in a back for 3 min while they are fighting someone else, and he just shrugs off the damage. Then he turns around and kill me in seconds. He didnt dodge and I did not dodge its not about how we play, its about he having as mutch damage if not more then me and being able to take 10 times the damage atleast.

I dont care about your uber elite 1v1 builds, I play group pvp mostly, and skirmishers is what hunters do best so my power build is the most damage I can do as a hunter so its fine. If I want to play with conditions I have my necro that does it 10 times better.

At least I’m not alone with a relatively high dps build where I wasn’t able to bring down an AFK warrior in time… FYI, he was below WWW BL Bay, AFK, I’ve engaged him, a guy came and I won the duel, then it took me like a whole minute to DPS down it’s natural regeneration. It was before the patch tho.

Above all, Warrior’s aren’t as immobile as many thinks…
If they were, they maybe wouldn’t seem so OP.

I believe warriors provide the proper counter against many power builds, especially with their built in skills to minimize damage while keeping an overall high DPS. This fact shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone, so if you expect to bring down a well built warrior in no time then you’re not truly understanding what you’re up against. I agree with you, warriors do have it much easier than rangers and it IS quite overpowered in many areas of the game. Now if you are able to set these facts aside and focus on how to get around their strengths, then you’d have a better success rate against them. I am not trying to put you down here because I do sympathize with you, but I also don’t see why you can’t accept that well built warriors are quite simply a pain and a half, accept it and work around it like everyone else, I’d be glad to discuss my own ideas on how to do it with you.

Well they negate conditions just as well, they can go immune to conditons for a long while. But atleast I can run away from warriors, theifs are also extremly op atm and I cant run from them, perma blind was just a stupid decision to give too such a high dps class, they need the damage toned down or remove blind, so they cant live forever.

Warriors, like everything, will eventually run out of cleanses and then they are up a creek without a paddle. There are many ways to cramp their style as well….so long as you are not trying to power bow them down. PvP warriors are a great counter to LB. We can’t even scratch their Armour with this weapon. Mesmers and Elems are a little weak to this, but warriors are made to squash power bow rangers. They wear a pin that says “I break long bows”

It’s OK against some things in hot join, sometimes. But, I found it works poorly against relatively seasoned PvP players. If you switch your build up, you’ll find yourself chasing the warriors and thieves away. Not the other way around. Rangers have amazing evasive strikes and abilities to kill while evading (pet, conditions, counter attacks). It’s a shame to not use them. I also tried max dps LB and GS build when I first started PvP. Try the other builds for fun, if you are already doing well, I think you will really enjoy what they have to offer.
