Is there even a meta PVP build?
spirit build

Spirit builds are the strongest option for pvp at the moment, but the majority run longbow greatsword builds for whatever reason.

either with celestial or with carrion amulet – you can run muddy terrain instead of SS
Short answer no
Long answer noooooooooo.
My version :
It works very well in Solo Q at least (got up to top150 EU with it, I’m quickly losing ranks now that I’m playing D/D ele), because you are a very good close holder (which is pretty crucial in Solo Q as nobody seems to want to take that role), but on top of that you’ve got great support for the team fights. The versatility makes it great in almost all fights and you can always find something useful to do for your team depending on your comp.
In team Q it’s a different story, as the flexibility it provides isn’t that interesting, as specialized builds are often preferred. That said, even there it remains a strong build.

Believe me, rangers will be more than viable next patch with the new changes. Celestial will probably be your best choice with spirit ranger as you will gain might on every bounces by the ricochet. Now imagine the might you gain from that with your Fortifying Bond that gives 13s of might to your pet if you put 30pts in Nature Magic. You will also be able to use Signet of Stone since there is no more Signet of the Beastmaster Grandmaster trait. I think you should realize by now how much more powerful this build will be.
There is also this survival of the fittest build I find very interesting with Entangle and Krait runes, but most will probably find me crazy to take that instead of spirits until they 1v1 me with this build.

Maybe Signet of Renewal could be changed for something else since you already have alot of condi cleanse with this build thanks to both GM traits, but I think It actually will work if you get good with the build.
And of course, power ranger is getting a huge buff on Longbow, plus Greatsword got some much needed love.

Lots of replies of what people are running themselves, but not much of a solid answer for the “meta”.
Hopefully this will help: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Ranger_-_Spirit_Master
Well if you think about a meta build for ranger there currently is not one as not alot of people run rangers in their teams. Unless people love playing their rangers so much, it’s just better off to replace it with something else like a warrior or an ele sadly. But hey, warriors are getting nerfed, so rangers just might be able to do something!
If you want to play with something that will work currently without having to wait until september 9 I think you should jump on another class, because it’s alot harder to be successful playing as a ranger compared to faceroll hammbow build.

I have contributed to that article, sir.
For the future meta of the class it will almost definetly be some sort of hybrid/conditon build with axe/dagger (or torch) and then shortbow or sword/x. That is because it opens up new and stronger might stacking options for the ranger, that warriors, engineers, and elementalists have previously used with a celestial stat spread to cheese their way to pvp victory.
Spirits will likely be a popular choice to focus on utility wise, but I think other variations are possible as well, but the focus will be on building might. It makes me wish there was a pvp rune of the aristocracy. I’ll probably play it from time to time, but I kind of find it to be a tad boring despite its effectiveness.
