Kicked for being ranger
Forever? Because kitten them?
Ignore them, you didn’t want to run with them anyway, they probably sucked.

that doesnt happen very often, i see sometimes parties that say no ranger/necro…a decent ranger is very useful to a party and brings good dps, just some 12 yr olds dont get it..
If you got kicked for being ranger these days it is most likely due to one of several reasons;
A – a party member knew who you were, and didn’t like you
B – haters gonna hate
C – they wanted to let a friend join
D – “hotjoining” pug teams are always a bad idea
E – haters gonna hate
F – warriors suck, and they know it.

Your first problem was trying to run Citadel of Flames with PuGs, all they try to do is skip and exploit the whole instance and cry when you don’t want to.
Baddies gonna be bad, just ignore them, rangers do fine in PvE and can bring quite a lot if you choose to.

on that sidenote – i have been running CoF with pugs here in EU for the past week. I have yet to be kicked from all but one party. Reason i got kicked was because i was having network issues and i rubberbanded all over the place, pulling mobs.

Brush that experience off your shoulders like it never happened mate. If you think about it you have every reason to kick whoever you want. I personally dislike warriors in dungeon runs because a good number of them like to yolo 100 blades and die in 5 seconds.
Ranger’s guide to PvP/WvW: http://tinyurl.com/oht3e9z
If a warrior shows up for a dungeon run using a rifle, he’s probably getting the boot. It’s not about rangers, it’s about poor decisions.
If you run a berserker with either of the swords, cat, frost spirit and spotter, you will literally never be kicked. Never.
Don’t worry about it, they surely sucked. In a good group, rangers can deal massive damage, as well as any other class. Many beginners don’t understand how to play and think it makes them look cool when they kick someone. It’s the sign of the noob!

also bots at the beginning were mostly bearbow rangers and they were OP only with 1ist skill that’s why we got nerfed so many times.people who are like that don’t know how to play a ranger.and holy crap do even warriors aloud to do that?playing warrior is easy mode with warrior i’m usually eating watching movies talking on phone etc etc.it’s easy to play a warrior

its because most rangers don’t play properly. If you use a bow, you’ll get kicked.

I kick anyone who doesn’t ‘play’ their class ‘properly’, including full of themselves warriors and guardians who think they are too good to take their own party buffs.
Actually I think that every class with a proper build is viable even for speed runs in dungeons.
Many people still don’t realize that a full berserk rangers with frost spirit, spotter, sword/warhorn and Feline pets would be a very good choice for any party.
Rangers get kicked if they have SotW equipped.

The truth is most dungeon encounters can be four manned, quickly, with a good team. So there is no need to kick one or two beginners. Many dungeon runners haven’t mastered their classes yet and have horrible communication skills. They cant adjust what they are doing based on their allies’ weaknesses. These are the flamers that will kick you for doing x or using y, or whatever. Shrug it off and find a better group.
Most of the complainers are screwing up anyway. You’ll have an easier run without them.

In my experience, as long as you don’t join groups that specify ‘speed runs’ you’re usually fine. Speed Runners want specific combinations and none of those combos involve Ranger.
The best advice though is to just go with Guild Members. I run dungeons with my guild all the time and do just fine. Playing with a Guild lets you play the way you want instead of with elitist PUG groups that insist that if you don’t play their way you’re ‘wrong.’
Look at it from the point of view of the warrior and it really does make sense.
Unquestionably, a ranger has the potential to be of value to a dungeon group.
The question the ranger has to answer is how likely is it that a random ranger will be able to do ok versus a random say guardian or warrior.
The issue is that the ranger class and the engineer class frankly have a very high skill level to do well in PvE. As a result, there is far less risk to picking up a different class if you don’t know the other player.
A good ranger is great. A bad ranger is the pits. But a mediocre warrior or guardian is just fine. Make sense?
The issue is to show upfront that you get it and explain how you are say sword, spirit, spotter built and that will provide x, y, z.
So much ignorance in this thread @OP, kicking rangers just for being rangers is so 2013, I wouldn’t be too worried about it.
Just find 4 other Rangers and do the dungeon. You’ll have much more fun and you’ll complete it in roughly the same time. Trying to join a group labeled speed run isn’t going to be Ranger friendly though. Especially when created by a Warrior.
Full Ranger runs are a blast though. Only ever regretted it on Maw.

Except your typical rangers in PUG run BOW not SWORD. And most of them don’t even realize why that is bad. Spirit and spotter are visually noticeable. Your typical rangers in PUG more often than not never run those. It is too glaring. How many times do you see warrior PUG with weird rifle build?

Quite the opposite in my experience, I NEVER get raged at ever on my ranger. It’s just an observation I was making in regards to the toxicity of the community, that no matter where you go in GW2, somebody is going to have a kittenty attitude about something and rage at everything and everybody.
Because of that, I was using the shared information to explain that essentially, people are just kittens to be kittens and to not let one of those people affect your gameplay experience.

The party leader most likely saw OP’s bear/bow and made the rational decision.
Not wanting to carry bads isn’t being elitist. Charity isn’t the default mode of behavior for the average person. And at the very least you shouldn’t be going around demanding it and getting mad when people refuse to give handouts.

I still feel that people have lower expectations overall for the performance of most rangers. When I’m pugging TeamQ and pinging the map, directing people to go far, stay mid, help home, they’re almost shocked that everything worked out the way I said it would.
I wouldn’t immediately kick a ranger that has a longbow equipped, but I wouldn’t make the claim that longbow is an efficient dungeon weaponset either. I definitely would prefer not to have a ranger in the group that just sits at max range autoattacking.
However, if a range weapon is actually to be used by the ranger, it is not a DPS weapon in dungeons. It is there primarily to provide relief from taking damage when your health dips too low and there isn’t the coordination by your team to keep you from going down, and Rapid Fire adds vulnerability (even if sometimes at a reduced duration) which adds total DPS output from your entire group.
But please don’t just sit in longbow. Melee is the way to go, and IF you NEED to get out of melee, hop back, Rapid Fire, then look to either summon frost spirit, heal, or reposition if needed, and then hop right back into melee.
Obviously, speed runners are going to have an even stricter policy about things of this nature, but this is just a general rule. I’m also not inclined to think that choosing the shortbow over the longbow provides any benefit, other than personal DPS, which until I seem some math, I will assume that the vulnerability plus your teams DPS during the time at which you apply vulnerability makes up for the personal DPS you lose by not taking Shortbow, if not surpassing it.
There are a lot more conditionals within that comparison though, starting with team and build comp, and which dungeon, etc.

By organized WvW i think he means GvG, in other words, a fake game type that even Anet isn’t supporting.
i also mean GvZ. none of the top guilds (i.e. the ones that successfully wipe zergs twice their size) allow rangers. ive pushed the ranger to the max in that setting, and even i admit bringing a ranger is a waste of a slot. you have to be seriously delusional to think that it’s ok to bring a ranger over a necro, staff ele, guard, or warrior if we’re minmaxing the team.
and like it or not, the “fake game type” (whatever the kitten that means), is the only thing keeping most WvW vets interested in WvW. and it gives newcomers something to aim for. because WvW is entirely pointless in itself.

It’s no coincidence that basically every top PvP team uses at least 1 ranger.

The difference is that they’re spirit rangers, or Condi regen (you know the build) home point bunkers. I play neither, and when my team is offline I’m generally forced into pugging TeamQ, which isn’t the greatest route one could take (especially when your team runs a specific comp that does not involve the ranger running a standard FotM build). In the end, ragers will find something or someone to put the blame on and rage at. Many of the new PvE rangers are giving rangers like me a bad name, and those not knowledgable enough in PvP will look to the weakest class in PvE (not counting high level fractals with spotter+frost). Generally, too, it’s my plan that succeeds or fails, but ultimately it’s up to my team to pay attention to map pings and team chat, and be competent in order to win, not just the ranger.

I don’t face that. The more times it’s said that rangers are excellent in dungeon running, the more likely the myth that we are bad there will go away. We provide a 14% damage boost to the entire party, not available from any other profession. We do excellent damage with a sword. We provide high fury uptime. A party is almost always going to be better off with a (competent) ranger in it.

Ok you can’t be serious here, how does using a bow make you a bad ranger exactly, go ahead and explain. Let me make it simple for you, if a ranger sucks its because the player behind the ranger sucks. The class as it stands is as good as any in GW2, each one providing different strengths to group play. It’s as simple as asking your buddy to play ranger for the first time while asking a veteran ranger to join your group… watch the difference.
Ranger’s guide to PvP/WvW: http://tinyurl.com/oht3e9z
I think the whole discussion here is only focusing on DPS. You need to examine a utility factor with rangers. in WvW they are used as a support class, basically make them glass cannon and you have a mobile arrow cart. Spec the right way and you have the best heal in the game (spring).
Sadly, the pet mechanic is not good, and as principle rangers seem to run pet passive almost exclusively. Well there goes half your DPS as a ranger. My pet does more DPS than me, but that is by design. I want “Agro Magnet” to take agro and ill just take short bow behind and bleed you to death.
If things get heated, swap to longbow. get extreme range and heal. my cycle for this is spring, 5, and 2. after i get to about 3/4 health then im back in to 500-900 range. Poison is used point blank, and piercing is lethal in groups.
You cant just assume that every ranger is crap. have a good ranger in any party and you have the best heal, excellent poison( which i can sustain), a pet for mild DPS, and if specked right the last person standing in your party.
Probably meta-trash anyway, as such they’re as only good as whatever flavor-of-the-month builds they’re running. In short don’t expect much from them should those exploits ever get patched.

I never said ranger is a bad pick for dungeons, it’s actually a nice addition, if it runs one special build. Which is not bow.
I’ll ask a buddy to run ranger even if it’s his 1st time because he at least won’t use a bow or some bad build (bad = not suited for dungeons).
You can’t hide behind ‘player skills’ when it comes to meta. Either you run Sword/WH + GS with Frost Spirit and Spotter or you do not run dungeons (you get kicked). The segregation we witness is due to people playing garbage builds. The same way as Engineers and Necros. There is no trust when you see a ranger, most of the time he’ll use a garbage build in dungeons because he is entitled to play how he wants, too bad it’s a team content, he can’t play how he wants.
To above : Rangers are kicked because they run terrible builds. The class has one viable build for dungeons, it’s the least ran one.
No one would know what build you ran unless you told them. If they ask, you could just as easily lie. The issue has always been the pet you’re seen with and the weapon you’re holding.
Sword does 1/3rd more damage than Longbow at max range. This is why you’re expected to run with a sword.
No one would know what build you ran unless you told them. If they ask, you could just as easily lie.
If enough people are running bad builds, it’s ridiculously noticeable. I don’t usually bother with kicking or raging or anything, but sometimes you’re in a PUG where everyone is clearly using whatever the kitten they want and it’s just faster to leave them and start a new group. In extreme cases, say if you had 3 bearbows in PVT or something, you might actually not even be able to finish the dungeon. I was in a CoF PUG where the end boss was actually healing instead of being damaged. It’s like people want me to start raging.

Given the fact that ranger is the hardest profession to play correctly, I can see your point. However why do you dismiss other builds that are successful in dungeon runs, even when using longbow or shortbow? Most dungeon runners will agree with the fact that not every dungeon instance can be melee’d or can be ranged and vice versa, in other words, you can’t just stack kill everything in every dungeon. The fact is that a good player will be prepared for the dungeon that they will go to, they will swap their gear and build to best suit the situation. So yes I have never run Sword/WH + GS with Frost Spirit and Spotter in any dungeon run… ever and still the dungeon is ran quickly and smoothly every time I go, unless an issue arises with other players. See the problem happens when you pug a dungeon.
Expecting people to be condescending during pugs is highly unlikely. If it’s a new player then sure they will screw up, or a player with some kind of condition that they can’t think on their feet. Otherwise, I expect players to gear up and trait properly for the task at hand and that goes for any profession. I don’t go asking… hey dude, put on this hat and good luck! I don’t know you but you best hope you know how to deal with it or I’m gonna cut you into pieces with the magic of ‘kick from party’ because I have no patience unless you do it right the first time! and let’s make a forum post about it because your profession sucks, not you who is sitting behind the other monitor making mistakes.
If everyone who did a dungeon run took the time to teach the player how to do the dungeon right ONCE we would have less and less people complaining. Forget rangers, this goes for all people who can’t do a dungeon run properly, kick them from the party and continue to do nothing to improve the problem. In the meantime I will do what I can to teach other rangers how to do it right.
So to the tldr people? Yes, expect to be kicked if you don’t know what you are doing. Being kicked for being a ranger and not running a specific build is downright ignorant. If you get nicely asked to run a certain build, ask for the details, leave the party and come back to the dungeon run when you understand why that build is good and why people are asking for it, can’t hurt to try new things.

The measure of success is going to vary from person to person, but if your definition of successful is to just “complete the dungeon in a reasonable pace.” then it doesn’t take much effort at all. I could be successful in dungeons playing condition damage longbow if I found 4 other players to carry me through them.
Instead, the focus for many players will be completing the dungeon efficiently and quickly in order to farm them for tokens and gold. In this scenario, you want every member contribute as much as their class can and builds like bearbow become less appropriate for the situation. It’s also very possible for players to not pull their own weight and leech off the boons and buffs the rest of the party gives to them. If you are playing with friends/guildies who don’t mind you playing that way, then that’s fine. In a PUG environment you won’t know the random players and they may not appreciate you running longbow in their speed runs. That doesn’t mean they’ll kick you or even care, but anyone knowledgeable with the game will be annoyed and may not be as patient.
tl;dr: It’s a team game, be a team player, not a DPS leech.

How is a bearbow going to leech off his team’s buffs when he’s standing at 1500 range?
