I was watching an old Sensotix video of a king of the hill duel day and I thought it might be a lot of fun to do for the ranger forum.Win best 2/3 duels and you stay king of the hill. Just for fun, not really for egos, like all kinds of weird builds with LBs or BMs or other garbage (I would definitely be running a BM as my first choice, which is just an awful idea against other rangers who know the pet can’t be ignored), rejoin the queue as much as you want. Do we have any streamers that might want to stream that for a saturday sometime between NA and EU waking hours?

I don’t have a custom arena or a stream. It doesn’t have to be streamed, and if only 3 of us show up it would be pretty dumb to stream. So I was hoping we could have some “woo I’m going to kick FrouFrou’s kitten” posts.

I have custom arena, and i can stream XD

but im not up for dueling. My best dueling build cannot be truly replicated in PvP, thus, meh.

That is it. It took me a year to fine tune it. And now it is perfect for roaming. It is mobile (perma swiftness), it has DPS (dat might stack is epic. Easily maintains 10-13 stacks) and NOW thanks to Sigil of Cleansing, i got condi cleansing “enough” to not “keel over” at any given moment.

I’m on EU servers, so I don’t think I could fight against most of you. :P
Not to mention that I’m not at home atm. But I would join such an event if I can.

As a side note: I hate to min-max my builds. :P

Build I use in spvp. It slaughters any profession.
The bark skin is very noticable when one combines it with the evades.
Snow leopard because it can keep someone downed while someone else is trying to revive the same person and the leap can deal huge damage.
Used to have the eagle because i like to press F2 every 5 seconds. Will try owl…

It completely owns Thieves (who seem to be spamming the spinny skill), Mesmers (axe) and Guardians. Oh and Rangers.

It can have problems with hammer warriors which only last 1 or 2 fights, with mm necro where only smart dodging is required.

Elementalists and Engineers are either win or lose. There is no almost win or almost lose, but I think that depends on one’s own skill.

I do duel but I will admit to disliking doing it in PvP if I can avoid it… Even if you can recreate your build fairly accurately (which isn’t usually the case) it is still not possible to play your best if you’re used to WvW. Everything is just a little off and not working as you except and it get frustrating when you start losing to builds / players you are sure in WvW you’d be beating.

what screw you over in sPvP is players that is adept at LoS and terrain manipulation. Sure that is important in WvW too, but in PvP it truly is a “Do it or die” skill to learn. You will never succeed in PvP without knowing how to LoS and manipulate the terrain to your advantage.

centre point on Foefire got several LoS spots directly near it. I abuse them all the time VS phantasm mesmers, other rangers and pistol/X thieves.

It has 0 LoS spots in the rules of your organised duel specify you may not leave the central area

Hehe… perhaps. But as I mentioned, I duel with my (former)guild mates there so there is a sense of playing fair rather than playing to win my any means at any cost :d

I dunno, it seems like we have about 3 people able and interested in NA. I forgot half of everyone is unable to play with the other half.

Is there a lack of arena in EU for this to happen? How much gems does that take?

Hey if its an obstacle I can donate to the cause, but I won’t be able to moderate (i.e. invite and block people) and all that.

In all honesty, we should do this in a strategic manner. I’m sure this would be an ‘on and off’ thing. So basically, purchasing a room for a day(which I think is 2 gold), then calling out a challenge in this thread to the current ‘King of the Hill’ opponent, setup a day to do it. You can even go as far as creating a public Google Document, so that people can write there name down for who wants to challenge. You get enough people, then you can setup a day corresponding to everyone’s schedules. These ideas are simply trying to skirt the 200 gold fee to create a room. If someone wanted to donate, that’s totally cool too.

Also, if you join [Wind] which is an all ranger guild, there is a room already available. We are constantly dueling each other for practice.

You gotta buy the room first (200g). And that gives you 30 days + room. Then you gotta pay 2g for every day, past the initial 30 days, that you want the room to exist.
When room expires you get 7 dayd to buy more time before room name, settings, block/invite list is deleted.

That’s a great idea. Posting the current King’s build, maybe even keep track of how many times it was successful? You can even have a chart/spreadsheet or some kind of list of builds win/loss rates. People can look at this chart/spreadsheet/list to further evolve the builds.

I think this sounds good.

Rules:

- I suggest we join a public duel server and just go to a fairly neutral location. I usually go to the Foefire map, and in front of one of the bases would be a nice quiet spot that doesn’t have a ton of LoS. The beach in Niflhel is also a good spot. Whoever wins 2 out of 3 either updates the king post or makes the next post with the new king.

- I also suggest we play for the stomp. Rangers have one of, it not the most interesting downstates of all professions, as well as an elite than can self-rez. It would also eliminate the pretty common occurrence of a tie where both parties go down.

-Edit: No immediate rematches.

If no one objects to nagymbear’s format and build changing idea, or my proposed 3 rules, I’ll start a new thread sometime today/tomorrow. I’ll make the first post NA and put myself on the top of the hill with a nice softball, full glass LB build. The second post would either be someone defeating me or EU king, which I nominate as Rym since I believe he was the first EU person to respond he was in.

1 build per 3 duels and only minor changes to the next 3 duels as nagym suggested.

I would vote ‘no’ just to get some more turnover, and even force people to come up on the spot solutions (“no stun breaker, I better keep an eye on that wolf.”) But we’ll see if anyone else has thoughts.
