Ok we’ll better write it all down, cause last month things that should work suddenly broke.

invigorating bond – i tried it on variety on pets and am pretty sure it doesn’t work.
f2 bug – was it really fixed recently?

f2 bug – was it really fixed recently?

Given the last few patches where they’ve stated it is fixed each time, apparently.

But I’ve found that it’s just as unreliable and pets can die between button press and cast sometimes waiting up to 6 seconds (counting out loud over TS to the amusement of my PvP party).

Invigorating Bond seems to be combat only, otherwise it works. It is also a pretty decent skill (metagame support ranger run in TOL by Niah uses it).

I think removing all of the “combat” only stipulations of the pet skills would really help the ranger.

I think removing all of the “combat” only stipulations of the pet skills would really help the ranger.

There are way too many traits that require either the Ranger or the pet to be in combat:

Concentration Training (Nature Magic II)
Requires the pet to be in combat mode.

Compassion Training (Beastmastery IV)
Requires the pet to be in combat mode.

Malicious Training (Marksmanship II).
Requires the pet to be in combat mode.

Pet’s Prowess (Skirmishing I)
Requires the pet to be in combat mode.

Expertise Training (Wilderness Survival V)
Requires the pet to be in combat mode.

Mighty Swap (Beastmastery VI)
Requires the Ranger to be in combat mode.

Tail Wind (Skirmishing 5 points)
Requires the Ranger to be in combat mode.

Furious Grip (Skirmishing 10 points)
Requires the Ranger to be in combat mode.

Spotter (Marksman VII)
Requires the Ranger to be in combat mode.

Companion’s Defense (Wilderness Survival 15 points)
Requires the Ranger to be in combat mode.

The ones that require the ranger to be in combat are hardly rare, mesmers, eles, and everyone else really, have the same sort of requirements on similar traits, EX: Deceptive Evasion doesn’t work unless you’re in combat (really kittening annoying at times).

The pet ones imo, are just stupid and should be changed to just giving your pet those different stats, if the BM traitline works that way idk how those other traits can’t just have a similar system.

Yeah, the pet ones aren’t just annoying, they lack synergy with Signet of the Hunt and pet swap. Since we can’t control our pets’ attack skills, the only way to guarantee a certain pet skill will fire is when you first swap in a pet. If that skill is a high-damage skill (e.g. drake’s tail swipe), then you want to pop SoH immediately after swapping.

But a freshly-swapped pet is out of combat, and you lose all those “in combat” pet traits. So it becomes an either-or choice between having the pet traits active, or timing pet attacks and augmenting them with SoH. On paper it looks like ranger should be able to get all these benefits simultaneously, but in practice it’s simply impossible.

Changing the “in combat” pet traits to simply augment the pet’s stats would fix this.

So many times I’d want my Moa or fernhound to screech when I swap em in, but can’t because it’d lose a trait boost I took because of that skill…. And that’s why I stopped using the combat traits with anything other than malicious training + spiders.

Not technically a “bug,” and maybe I’m the only one who still cares about this, but I can’t believe the game still refuses to remember any of my pets’ names, aside from my two active ones.

I am very glad to have the option to rename my pets whenever I want, but I don’t see why that means the game shouldn’t store the names I gave each pet type until I manually change it. As a result, it’s very rare that I bother to name my pets at all, so I just have “Juvenile Lynx” or “Juvenile Blue Moa” running around.

This is just bewildering, to me. Is there some reason Guild Wars 2 can’t remember the names of more than two pets at any given time? Would it really be such a strain on server resources? It’s just a string of text, for crying out loud!

They said that they did it pretty much on purpose because of how much extra space saving all of those would take.

Yet ironically my brown bears name is pretty much saved, everytime I swap him out for a fight and bring him back (as in hit K, swap him for say, a Moa, and then hours or days later bring him back) his name is still locked.

Needless to say, it’s only added onto the legend that is Beary Bearington, the most broken brown bear in Tyria.

Been this way since launch. Resources aren’t they issue, they just don’t care enough about the problem to bother fixing it.

Somehow I think Anet reverted the F2 to the original broken form. F2 doesn’t feel as good after the last patch. Also, if I deselect target and press F2 on wolf, I expect it to fear and not run to the nearest target then fear instead.

Sometimes swapping pets kills pets? Like the first pet has a quarter health, you swap it and your second pet pops out dead.

How about the fact that many things the ranger does are harmful to the pet? Conditions and damage is dropped onto the pet, so a lot of the ‘pet being alive’ or ‘pet being in combat’ traits are completely useless in many scenarios. There should be a rework to allow a better synergy between the ranger and the pet.
