Guild Wars 2

I’m looking for good rangers to follow in all of the content. Wvw, dungeons, fractals, and tPvP. I’m aware of gasmask and Xsorus (probably misspelt). And any good guild wars 2 general YouTube channels would be good as well.

Yeah,there are some very dedicated rangers in the community that can offer you a myriad of useful information.

Sadly the ranger class as a whole seems to be a haven for bad players ,moreso then any of the other classes. So while the class has some deficiencies the general lack of players experienced with the class tends to bring a ton of QQ posts and omg I’m quitting threads.

So if you’re able to read In between the Lines and find the rangers that make up the core of our community you will find a treasure trove of awesome information. Besides the ones you mentioned faux sheaux and chops are super awesome as well . So just keep an eye out!

I find it really wierd that when you look carefully you find ranger actually has probably the highest skill floor of all classes and too many ignore ranger melee, or event Axe since recent updates.

the reason there is so many bad rangers, is exactly because the skillfloor is just way higher then most other professions. The sheer fact that you must actually CARE a bit about playing your class makes it night impossible for most people to play it. Let alone the fact that the vast majority reads the class as “epic WoW-hunter like archer” when instead they shoulda read “this looks like Aragorn from LotR”

While every class can be played in every area, there are issues with effectiveness , and sadly ranger does not do anything better then any other class . Considering this is a game of min-maxing and ranger being a sort of jack of all trades kind of class you will find yourself in a difficult position to justify yourself in a 5 man party over any other class .

However, in WvW roaming and PvP ranger is good . While pet is a big liability in dungeons, here in small skirmishes it shines because you can go tanky or condition overload and still get solid dps and versatility from the pet .
Also going for dual melee, i.e. greatsword and swort+XX you have some of the best mobility in game and can be a good scout .

All in all , ranger is very fun no doubt , but its a very eccentric class with a lot of AI and design issues . You can roll it, but be sure to play dungeons with friends because u will have a bad time with PUG groups

Not sure I completely agree with this..I mainly pve with my ranger, and I don’t think I have that many problems. I mean sure I may not be the most damaging person in the party, but I do fine. A lot has to do with how you actually play, like being able to dodge and know the fights and whatnot. I don’t really understand how pets are a “liability” in dungeons..I mean I know there are certain fights and things where they can cause problems, but then you just turn them on peace mode. I find my pets to be helpful for a lot of fights, too. And actually when I do pugs, most problems I have are things like other members not listening or doing a lv 12 fractal and people having like, never been to fractals before. Not generally people going “ew ranger you suck get out”.

I agree with you, but most of the reasons you find pets to be useful is because you have adapted your game play to care for the needs of the pet.

Most of the time the pet is a liability because people don’t care. I’m not making a broad generalization of the Ranger community, I’m just talking about the mentality some people have towards their pet and their expectations for and of the pet. While it would be nice for the pet to be a set-it-and-forget-it mechanic, it requires constant micro-management. To be truly effective at managing your pet you need to get used to anticipating when you’ll need to swap the pet. It is a pity Zephyr’s Speed has been moved to a grand master trait because it would provide the reward incentive for using your pet swaps as a quickness cool-down. It also becomes easier when you’ve gotten used to the content with your ranger, you’ll know to use a ranged pet instead of a melee pet, you’ll be able to avoid most of the attacks from bosses by dodging and use your heal for the pet, etc. and it will start becoming less of a chore to keep the pet alive.

It is also a matter of understanding the pro’s and con’s of which pet you choose for which areas of the game. For the most part, canines are the best utility pets (cripples, kd’s, access to unique skills that AoE immobilize, fear, or grant regeneration) – this makes them very effective in a dungeon run where the players stack up to cleave mobs by keeping foes together. For melee dps, drakes are preferred because of their aoe attacks, blast finisher, and funny looking walking animation. They are also very good tanks. For ranged pets you’ve got bleeds & poison from devours or cripples and immobilizes from spiders.

Actually it is a liability because you do not have full control over it , babysitting it means a big loss in overall DPS because it is the only class ability that is factored into core damage and not a boost to core damage . Also there are lots of pet abilities that would make the current pet system not only good , but very very good if not for the fact that a player is given control over only 1 pet ability .

Giving players control over all pet specials would catapult ranger utility into the stratosphere .

I think you should be able to bind 2 pet abilities, or at the minimum pick ability priority or rotation. and all pet special skills should work on a 360 degree so they dont miss 80% of the time.

You on NA? …if so I’ll play directly along with ya instead of just tossing out Videos to watch… don’t matter the content either … everything but FOTM’s. Maybe I’m not all super happy about where Ranger is at the moment but if I can keep a Pet up in Melee for the entire Lupicus fight and hold the Gorilla Champs aggro outside Lyssa’s Alter for the whole fight, then I must be doing something right. Need gear made? Want mats instead to make the gear yourself? Can help with that too, know the most concentrated locations to get those drops. More than happy to do all of this for free. Been doing it since Gw1 where I even gave away Armbraces to people I was coaching.

Just b/c someone has bad opinions of this class… doesn’t mean they’re bad at it.
So if no one else offers that kind of help, then consider mine b/c I’ll back it up

Ya I am on NA. Gates of Madness. I mostly only run wvw on my ranger and the spvp daily. Leveling up other classes in pve. Let me know if you want to get together.

I’ve also started running drake pets for their blast finisher. Is there anyway to get them to do the finisher if they arent using it to attack an enemy. If I am in my zerg and drop healing spring to heal my team while taking a keep for example.

Probably should have specified that in your First sentence of the post then b/c it really limits who can help here, while also only focusing on a format where individual contribution (as anything besides a portal mes) is trivial at best.

That said… if you notice the people running beside you don’t always have swiftness, then you may want to look into the Voice build just so that more of them all arrive at the same time to absorb that 5 max per source AOE damage that was such a brilliant Idea for Anet to put into a format that was already “won by attendance”
