Leave a trap on dodge?
Personally I’d prefer something where you end up throwing up dirt while dodging and give any enemies nearby blindness.

That fits the ranger class so well I’m surprised it doesn’t exist in game. It goes perfect with the dirty/dodgy fighting that a lot of the ranger weapons emphasize.

They could totally just roll that into Trappers Defense and make it so everytime you dodge roll dust flies up.
Or… even better, Evasive Purity, make our grandmaster not kittening worthless plz Anet!

I agree. Evasive Purity should be renamed a bit and get this mechanic. Would be strong but with a low duration still balanced.
I really wonder what the devs are thinking when they were creating Rangers.
Thief <— a Class with Stealth as their main tool was given this skill called
Uncatchable (Tier 1 of Trickery III).
Rangers <—- a Class with just extra Dodges which never make an opponent lose their target was given Evasive Purity.
And we gotta spend 30 points to get it.
In short, Anet really do not understand how powerful Stealth is compared to Dodging obviously lol!
Furthermore they are given Uncatchable which should be the Ranger’s Trait.
Bravo!!

I would make it create a spike trap which applies a fairly long cripple, to keep the dodgy nature of the ranger.
It’s be nice, but we already can gain protection on dodge and we can dodge a LOT. Not really sure that this is somewhere we have an issue to be honest.
That said if they threw us a bone I wouldn’t mind.
Would be great right until you have an 11 stack confusion thrown on you

This should not happen, Rangers with the trait get a dodge roll every 7.5 seconds which less than the cd on every trap available on ranger. It is far too powerful, the only way that it could be balanced is by gutting the trap on dodge roll, lowering the condition durations(spike 1/3 duration) or removing all but the first initial trap pulse (frost[2s chill]/vipers[6s poison ~ 1200]/fire[2s burn ~ 1200]).

No, the minor master trait in WS tree is very good already. Besides traps have low cd, so theres no need for such a trait.
Not a trap, we have lots of dodges and it would make the whole set up unbalanced like thieves. However, I wouldn’t say something akin to Caltrops on thieves, a small version of Muddy Ground or Entangle at most.
A spike trap is too much. Trap ranger is already really really strong in PvP. At most a small trap that applies 1-2 bleeds or small muddy ground. But, what really should happen is what Ryu said:
Personally I’d prefer something where you end up throwing up dirt while dodging and give any enemies nearby blindness.
at least partially because that would be so kitten cool.
really bad engineer
The thing is I’m not that sure we need this, I have no problem that I can think of where I’d want either a trap or mud of evasion. I WOULD use evasive purity if it cured bleeding, THAT would be worth having, but I gave EP a long try for a while and it’s just not worth it, poison just doesn’t bother me that much, that often and blind really isn’t that big of a deal that I’d want to go all the way to grandmaster in the NM tree.
If it removed bleed though, I’d take it in a shot.

Whenever i use it and then go to -not- using it i notice a huge difference because poison guts your healing, so i’d get into the habbit of dodging and then quickly healing afterward so i wouldn’t have poison, i always feel naked without it now…
However, the blind thing is just worthless, i don’t think in any situation i’ve ever used Evasive Purity to remove blind.. now if it removed cripple or chill or bleed or weakness that’d be a REALLY nice trait.

Yes removing poison is okay, but given the amount of points I have to put into it to get it it’s just not worth it to me. Removing cripple on the other than, that would be worth it.
As it is, it’s fine, just not for the amount of points I have to spend to get it.

Agreed, it’s more of a 20pt talent, it needs to remove -more- in order to be worth the 30pts for it.

A large part of the problem is that Nature Magic blows. It’s full of useless traits for useless spirits. Yes, Evasive Purity is unworthy of being a grandmaster trait, but it’s also an unworthy grandmaster trait in a poor trait line.
I’d prefer if it removed more, like burn and frost as well. Since it’s ‘purifying’ abnormalities that seem to be foreign that hit the body, those would be a nice addition. Sure the cooldown would need to be changed to maybe 20-25 seconds, but it would be SOOO worth it then.

Conversation seems to have changed into a discussion about evasive purity, back to the topic at hand i wouldn’t mind a dodge trap giving us a reliable smoke field

Well, the connection between a dodge trap and Evasive Purity is pretty strong – certainly strong enough for discussion on it to be relevant to the topic at hand. The general goal is, after all, to improve the dodge-happy emphasis of the Ranger profession with something offensive.
And to that end, if Evasive Purity is going to remain a Grandmaster trait, causing it to blind and poison nearby foes briefly would have roughly the same effect as adding in a trap on dodge trait.

ill agree to this ^, evasive purity having an offensive component namely blind and poison might not be all that useful, would the blind no be wasted since you would be dodging for the duration of the blind? and i think we have so many ways to poison as is, How about a 1 sec immobilize and 5 stacks of vulnerability?

Blind has the added power of support for your teammates and could easily be applied at the end of the dodge, making it useful to you as well.
As for Poison, it isn’t included in the GS, Longbow, or MH Axe (if not using Dagger offhand), giving it some decent niches. Even on weapons that already inflict it, it doesn’t hurt to have a little more duration and another source to apply it and counter condition removal.
I chose these particular conditions just to stay within the current themes of the trait – it removes them from you and you inflict them on others.
Stuff like Immobilize and Vulnerability could definitely be nice, but they would give the trait a rather scattered feel. I don’t know. It definitely warrants exploring as an option.

if the blind is applied at the end of the roll then i could see this being a very powerful trait and perhaps worthy of its spot as a Grandmaster, i still feel that we can apply a healthy amount of poison especially if you melee with sword dagger which is where i can see dodging being used offensively but i dont like how few sources of vulnerability we have most don’t last very long or stack very high, i would welcome a new EP if i inflicted both vul and poison as these two compound each others effects very well
I wouldn’t mind a trap on dodge, but what I would really like is to get the protection on dodge to apply at the end of the roll instead of at the start.
I do miss dust trap. Maybe a dust trap on dodge would work well.
