Legendary/Elite Pets?
To note id also like a lion, but not a small lion. IF any of you ever played warhammer age of reckoning you should know what i mean. . . the picture is not of me but an example of how big i want the pets to be. Tired of having my pet be stuck as a baby
Problem with ideas like these are that they seem to have been made in a vacuum without paying attention to how the game actually works, and specifically for the ranger, what the pet mechanic needs.
Profession mechanics are enhanced by traits, and traits alone. You can’t go on about adding pets that are “naturally stronger” than other pets. Pets grew in size in GW1 because they actually attained levels, that kind of immersion is completely wiped away by game design decisions made years ago for GW2. At this point it’s actually a matter of “dealing with it”, it’s how the profession mechanics in this game work – no profession has a way of improving it or certain aspects of it.
And even if these things were simple esthetic changes for pets, which I wouldn’t be against, it is still on the far bottom of the list of improvements the pets need. Better AI, better player controll (as in controlling more than just one skill), improvement of already existing pets etc.
I admit that i agree with you, but i want my pet to look more like a beast than a baby. And every time i pull that out, that my pet looks like a infant people leap on me? Im glad you have no for once i can sit down and talk about it, rather than just scrap the idea. I mean who wants a sid the sloth drake?((River drake.)) or a chomper from land before time when fighting massive monsters?((Baby wyverns))
However i still think legendary pets that are stronger than the base pet can be implemented, and that is simply by allowing us to ascend our other pets? Go through a process in which we ascend them. Which would make them have a new set of stats and make them stronger, but the legendary pets would simply look way cooler than even the new ascended looks. This makes you pick your personal pet the one you wana have and you ascend it and gain a new look, better stats and maybe new powers with multiple effects. The legendary would be superior cosmetically but they would be the same power with some being more tanky than others like it is now.

What we want and what we get are seldom the same thing, unfortunately.
Plus, ANet has not even been willing to code a single string for each pet so that their names are persistant, in 3 years.
I’m all for making suggestions, but it has to be in the realm of feasible. ie not a major change to what already exists.

Because you are, again, looking at it in a vacuum where ranger is the only profession in the entire game. Which makes me wonder how you could have agreed with my last comment.
Pet esthetics seems to be your main problem, I don’t get why you’re trying to suggest something that would cause major changes to the game. Forget about base stats, just ask for new pet skins..

… Snip …
This part makes sense. Everyone except the ranger likes small pets. The problem is that they block up all the important space on the screen that “no one is interested in” when it comes to content.
People don’t want to get distracted by pets when “Ranger” is the source they are looking for. You don’t want pets to block half of the body of a commander you are supposed to stack at or on a Druid that is supposed to heal you up.
It sounds like a trivial matter but this concept has been once discussed back at WoW days. People did find it disturbing.
Actually i thought of something similar, but not just pets who spawn after an event, but just pets you can only tame with an elite spec.
Later when new elite specs arrive there could be new pets for the elite spec to tame.
And now for the druid i thought about Oakheart and other treants.
They could be an awesome pet with condi clear, entangle, pull etc.
Just about 2-3 would be enough per elite spec and it would give every elite spec of the ranger its own pet flavour bonus.

Im just saying that the pets don’t feel like they are capable of doing much, they are small and somewhat too cute? The reef drake is still the biggest pet and it even it looks more adorable than it dose fearsome, a little bit more size and maybe some marks to show that your pet is not a baby is fine yeah? I like the idea that it could be an elite spec that dose this, for example “Hunter” or maybe “Tracker” hell even “Ecology Master” which is a tree that allows for some differing pets. But the ones we have now are sorely to adorable, and i know a lot of people are all about cute and look at my baby dragon . But every game makes mistakes like this, at least make it optional for us rather than a “Yeah your stuck with baby beasts”
Would be cool if once pets reach level 80 to match your level, they would also grow out of their juvenile state, since they also receive an additional 150 stats when they reach this point.
Giving access to an up-gradable class mechanic will only cause anger between the classes. Either rangers are mad because they have to spend extra time an exploration to get their legendary pets just so they can match other professions, or other professions will be angry at rangers because they can grind to get more power that other classes can’t get.
If you wanted to implement a legendary pet system, you should do it through pet skins. In a sense we already have this, the black moa, black widow, and white raven are like legendaries, they have the same stats and skills as existing pets, but because they look different there is some prestige attached to them.
Ranger are actually the only class with some kind of right for upgradable class mechanic, not strenght wise but cosmetic wise the pets could be improved while progression.
And mechanic wise its the only class mechanic with major issiues.

-Controllability
-unfair distributed stats between pets
-AI
-Skills not working properly (Birds F2 has a delay) or just poor designed (porcines F2)
If everything asked from the ranger community is going to be improved on the pets, we will have our elite pets
