Hello Ranger community! I have been a playing a ranger in this game literally since Beta 2, and I would like to propose an idea to everyone and see what the general consensus would be before we storm the Dev Castle with “buff rangers!” signs.

Personally I have felt that rangers are missing something overall as a class that makes them stand out. The core concept from Arena Net for rangers always points at the pet supposedly having an integral role. To be honest, unless I spec for heavy beastmastery, the pet is little more than a meat shield or glorified dot damage. Does anyone else feel that we are missing something to make the class stand out more? I have an idea that might be a step in the right direction.

I’m looking at the Juvenile Jaguar pet. As a cat it deals decent damage, but I’m more focused on the F2 “Stalk” ability. In it’s current form the pet gets 6 seconds of stealth. My question to the community is – Would it be over powered if the 6 seconds of stealth also affected us rangers? This alone would help rangers in every aspect of the game from solo play, to WvW and especially in tournament PvP. I’m using the Juvenile Jaguar as the example here, but in essence I am suggesting that our pets F2 abilities do more for the ranger.

Another suggestion would be if outright giving all pets abilities that also affect the ranger is too powerful, maybe offer us a master or grandmaster level trait in the beastmastery line that opens up stuff like this.

Rangers what do you think? Would this be an idea to help our class become more defined, or would it be too over powered?

TLDR – Let ranger pets do more for the ranger -> ie -> Juvenile Jaguar F2 stealth also stealths the ranger.

It already helps the Ranger. It lets the pet do more damage, which helps the player.

I think having a very powerful effect like 6 seconds of Stealth to the player would make the Jaguar too good and almost required.

It would also require an entire rework of pet F2 mechanics. The ranger community is barely able to contain people telling us that the recharge reset on swap is OP.

The jaguar is the highest DPS pet the ranger has. It’s pretty much dead last on the list of pets which need improvement.

Multiple people have tested and report that the Jag’s first three hits while stealthed are crits.

Does the jaguar’s crit while stealthed ability apply if they are in stealth from Guard? I’m assuming no, but I want to know if I’m wrong.
