Is anyone else annoyed that their POLAR BEAR is not a polar bear, but some fake hybrid with an ugly grey fur instead of a white fur as any other npc polar bear?

If i want a polar bear i want a freakin snow white bear and not some street sludge color.

I dont really think of Rangers as pristine. Street sludge is our level, and if im getting dirty the beast is too.

As far as “being the only one thats bothered”; you might be. If you are in a position where using bears is somehow the right thing to do, black bear and brown bear are typically much stronger options. I dont think i’ve ever seen someone running a polar bear, simply because its F2 is weak relative to the species (same could be said about arctic wolf).

oh i got the point the first time.

the point i was making is that because the polar bear is not the optimal bear for any situation pvp, pve or otherwise that requires bears, barely anyone runs it ever, thus “yes, you are one of the only people who cares that the bear is dirty.”

Nope, honestly i’ve never ever used it, ever, so didn’t really bother me.
What does annoy me tho is how all the “bats” in the game are some wierd flying lizard monster. What’s the deal with that?

That said, the real fix is to ask ANet to allow rangers to apply dies to their pets and make them whatever color they want. Then you can spend 34 gold in the trading post getting the Celestial dye so you can have a bright white bear.

Snow is actually slightly orange. As many photographers who try to white balance using “white” snow in their photos have discovered. (If you try it, it gives everything a slightly cool, steely blue look.)

To make it even more confusing, if it’s a sunny day and there’s snow in the shade, it will be blue. Because it’s being lit by the blue sky, not the white (orange-yellow actually) sun.

I don’t want to get into a dissertation, so let’s just say that color (and whiteness) is mostly a figment of your imagination. Your brain is exceptionally good at making things which aren’t white appear white based on the color of surrounding objects, and what color you think the object is supposed to be. That’s why sometimes your photos look yellow (indoors incandescent lighting) or green/blue (fluorescent lighting). The camera doesn’t have your brain tweaking the colors for it, and is recording the actual colors.

I don’t have a problem with the color of polar bears in the game. Yeah they could be whiter. But bloodstained paws and muzzle would probably be more realistic.
