And i dont mean only in a Spirit focused build..Lets be honest…Players dont think that spirits provide enough buffing for taking a slot in the skill bar of my supportive Ranger.I would prefer some self buffing signet or some shout, even tho that the search and rescue needs some fixing too.
And i dont think even raising by 100% the hp of spirits will work.I think that the real problem in spirits is that they give something small but in a steady timing.
2 sec of protection every 10 sec..Not actually numbers just an example
They way i feel GW2 gameplay i think that this kind of buffing doesnt work well.
I would prefer something like 5 sec of protection every 20 sec,or something like this, cause this might sounds OP.Something big/really helpfull/life saving..but with a long proc timer

Actually, Stone Spirit sits in my first slot. I also trait for the larger proc radius and skill activation when it dies trait. I have been testing out a new build that allows me to take on any class 1vs1 and win depending on skill. My previous build was good as well but I couldn’t beat Bunker hammer Guardians and condi thieves so I sought after a new build and found the one I’m currently using.

Now Stone Spirit is the only one I use during tPvP. Hot joins I switch it out with Flame trap. But having Stone Spirit up gives me about an 80% uptime of Protection with my build which is vital.

Spirits do need a huge buff in my opinion as they are very lackluster at the moment. It would be nice to have health bars as well show up so you could drop a spirit on a point and monitor it’s HP from a distance so you know to manually proc its secondary skill before it dies.

Every 3 seconds they apply a 6 second buff to up to 5 allies (closest players first) which has a 35% chance on hit to proc and a 10s proc cooldown. Spirits actually contribute a lot… but it is hard to see their effects. Yes they drip out small buffs over time, but if you use them well, you can always have them up. Getting a spirit to be effective is a balance of relevance and survivability.

If you put the spirit in the back, around the corner, below the ledge, out of the way… it will be out of the fight and have great survivability… but it may not stay relevant if it is too far away. If people learned to retreat back into spirit range once in awhile, they could get the buff periodically, which might be better than getting it just once at the start before the spirit gets killed. Getting an immobile spirit to be relevant is a matter of predicting where the battle is going to flow and where AoE is likely to land.

If you keep the spirit with you, it remains relevant as long as it survives, but it may not survive long. Utility spirits don’t heal themselves, so I recommend Healing Spring, Runes that do AoE heals (I like flock.), Runes that blind your opponent (I like flock.), Sigils that do AoE heals, and pets that can heal or protect, and of course bringing the Elite Spirit helps too. Keeping a mobile spirit alive is a matter of keeping it out of as much danger as possible, and healing it as much as you can. It really helps if you build towards that end.

i think that a spirit that doesnt follow you its pretty lame..The aoe radius aint that good and that way can be easily nuked down by some random aoes.So if you are suppose to use spirits u must take the proper traits..At least the 99% rangers that i have seen are doing it.
Untraited spirits are something that are not something popular

I use stone spirit, too. It provides about 25% uptime on protection, for me, my party, and nearby npcs. Through fortifying bond, it’s more like 50% uptime for my pet.

Sun spirit is also nice, giving the focus target 100% uptime on burning in a grouped situation. Granted, some of that has no condition damage bonus, but “fire burns!”…

Spirit effects have a 1200 range. It is very easy to place your spirit off to the side and give the buffs to keep it alive. This is how spirits were intended in GW1. Nothing is better than having someone go for you spirit in which case you blind or immo them then kill them.

  1. Go to the mists.
  2. Get a Steady weapon.
  3. Go hit a golem a bunch of times.
  4. Trait Spirtual Knowledge.
  5. Put down a Frost Spirit.
  6. Hit the golem a bunch more times.
  7. Notice that 50% of your attacks do 10% bonus damage (no cooldown).
