Longbow AA vs Staff AA
Yes LB AA will always be better, but Staff AA is good because it’s following the target and it’s not a projectile. You can’t miss with the Staff AA, except when blinded of course.

I think what you’re trying to say is that staff can’t be reflected. You can’t miss with the LB auto since they updated it like 2 years ago or whatever; it hits instantly. I imagine you knew that if you’re on the ranger forum, but a shocking number of people think you can still make LB autoattacks miss by strafing.
staff has better applied DPS in pvp. LB arrows are constantly blocked, deflected, reflected, destroyed, or evaded.
Lb has far better realistic damage though. The AA on both weapons does basically nothing. LB can put out actual damage when it counts.
im not denying the LB’s pressure. we were discussing AA, and i think staff has much better applied dps from its AA.
I don’t see much value in looking only at the autoattack though. No one uses only the autoattack. It’s nice to know if you’re being useless while eating a sandwhich that staff auto might be better, but… who cares in a realistic scenario where you’re barely using the AA at all.
staff AA spam does a ton of damage on power builds, which makes it easy to fight from any position. and it’s not constrained by range.
One of the single lowest damage weapons in the entire game =/= “a ton of damage”.
You let me know when you kill someone on staff auto. It’s quite literally impossible if the person isn’t AFK.

cool story man.
Comparing simply aa,
The staff aa is “strong” in its attrition. Its impossible to blind or weave a beam attack that’s ticing over 2x a second and pierces.
Longbow aa you can blind and weave most of its dmg short of the ranger just standing still and letting their character auto-face. Not to mention the level of projectile hate ingame atm.
So which aa is better?
-Longbow aa @ >1200-2000 range.
-Staff aa @ 0-<1200 range.
But in truth the better aa is the one that comes with what you need on said weapon set.
-dmg/stealth/cc/aoe cc
-heals/mobility/projectile hate
Which aa is better is irrelevant.

throw hands in air THIS
Why the hell is anyone uses the autoattack on those weapons for anything other than filler. You use the weapon for the WEAPON, not autoattack. Get off GW2 if you’re using staff auto as your attack of choice.

Considering two to three of our weapons have pretty much all their damage on the auto, it’s not hard to see why people think this way.

Ya that’s a fun trip down memory lane. Ranger used to be heavily weight towards autos. SB was the required PvP weapon, sword was PvE, LB was “useless” and RF was a DPS loss compared to auto.
GS had an even lower auto than it does now with a 3-target maul, axe did literally nothing… those were the days.
Another Fact,
Staff Pierces without traiting for it.
Traited LB gets attack speed increased by 10% – making the DPS on par even at melee-range.
Why you start such topic???
If devs will see these topic, they’ll just nerf staff AA… even if it’s WORST DPS WEAPON in game.
I think both are very good weapons with different roles. Didn’t mean to imply that one weapon is better than the other. I simply compared AA only because I hear people arguing that staff AA has higher damage than LB AA.
Compare it to rev or daredevil AA and you’ll get 20-25k dps difference.
Em, staff AA heals your allies and also Procs a bunch of healing traits. It also has much better utility, so the comparison is moot.
Illustrious Exhausted Primordial Legendary Druid, and Mesmer for fun
PvE | PvP (1500)| WvW | Fractals | Dungeons
Staff AA better than LB AA, and also very underrated. Try Staff AA with Marauder amulet and proc sigils and be amazed.
Inb4 staff AA nerf.
Dragonbrand
Also, I am one who says Staff does more actual damage in PvP than LB, and I stand by that. There is simply too much projectile hate floating around. LB arrows get swallowed.

in october i played in the top mmr with a might-stacking marauder staff build. arguably the most popular competitive druid build was the cele gs/staff, which also revolved around might stacking and spamming staff AA.
not sure why this is a new topic all of a sudden. not to mention all the misinformation. in fact, LB hasnt been competitive since the xpac’s release.

We’ve always been kings of Sigil Procs.
Because they have been a meaningful portion of our damage output thanks to multi-hitting. Could you guess what that might mean?
If sigils on our class are a noticeable form of damage – the base damage without them must be very low.
Which indeed is the case. And there’s nothing wrong about it. We have pets to compensate and if they get the needed attention – weapons wouldn’t have to be the problem.
