hi all,
i absoluteley hate the longbow, but i know a lot of ppl like it and are not satisfied with its performance. after a few minutes of thinking “how would i improve the weapon?” “what does the weapon need to bring for me to like it?” i came up with an idea.
what do you think about different types of arrows, each with other benefits and downsides. this could be implemented like the elementalists attunement or as an offhand weapon you can equip together with the bow ( no stats )
all arrows share the same skills
heavy arrow: max range 900 because of its heavy head. this arrow does scale very good with power. the attack speed is a litte bit slower.
medium head: max range 1200. this arrow has the same head and weight like the light arrow, but with barbs that point to the flight direction to create bleeding wounds for 1 sec per hit.
light arrow: like the longbow is atm but you dont need a trait for the 1500 range. also the sttackspeed is increased by 10-20%

Anything improving LB is good for me, but this idea is one of the least likely to happen imo :P
If they were to do this, I doubt it would be attunements. the most you could hope for would be quivers that act just like poisons for thieves.
If you seriously look foward to be an archer in current meta, it can work with both Bows on swap and only in WvWvW.
Great idea. I miss different arrow types from DAOC. They had 3 styles of heads (blunt/barbed/keen) that did more or less damage vs a type of armor (leather, studded, chain, plate, etc).
yep, that is one of my inspirations, the other is the second mythic mmo warhammer online where the ranger had 3 attunements. one was for meele, one for medium ranger and one for long range

I like the idea. Would trade the pet system for this any day. Lol
Question would the arrows still be effected by the Longbows range attack base? So since I am at 900 the arrow does more, but less because I am at 900?
I do like the attack speed increase but I feel like medium arrow would be wonderful if it was just applied to the shortbow auto attack.

the idea is that each arrow has its own modificator for the range. heavy head and medium head have 1 modificator for the whole range and the light has it splitted up like it is yet. a pure far distance arrow that is not effective in ccq
I kinda like the idea of different arrow types, in the shape of quivers as mentioned would be nice too, but… wouldn’t those totally mess up some of the traits lines and skills?
No way they’ll implement something that messes the traits and skills even more…

Too be honest the warrior long bow skills are more what the ranger long bow needs
In fact why not bring back the different bow types from GW1? If you didn’t play it search it but here an oveview;
Diffeent bow types that handled differently
LongBow
Short Bow
Recurve Bow
Horn Bow
Compound Bow
Flat Bow
These where ALL bows in GW1 and I have no idea why they havnt come to GW2
ALSO
In GW1 – if your a ranger firing down from a hill so the enemy is lower than you – then you do more damage because of GRAVITY
Could just give ele longbow with different effects on the autoattack/1 rotation based on attunement, keeping the rest of the weapon skills the same.
Would actually be pretty cool if you ask me o.O
