I’ve been playing with Longbow/GS for some time, but then realized it’s not the optimal weapon of choice im looking for.

What’s your input on this, and do you have any other suggestion for the weapons a DPS-ranger should have?

Longbow/sword and warhorn.

I use Longbow, Sword/Warhorn. Works very well.

What are those?!

I built around crit damage and run a longbow/axe+horn most of the time, both PvE and WvW. I’ll swap axe for sword if I need that mobility in a 1v1 situation. The horn is just too nice to not have.

Same. Been using a longbow/axe + horn combo for a while. I never really liked either the sword or GS that much. There are really clear stats available on why sword is a better main hand than axe if you’re just looking for highest DPS, but I prefer the playstyle of the axe.

If you’re running with a group and just trying to tag things (Crown Pavilion, WvW zergs, farming Cursed Shore, etc.) then definitely bring the axe mainhand.

Piercing arrows is also pretty good at tagging things, though admittedly not as good as an axe. Alternatively, slot your longbow with a sigil of fire, trait piercing arrows, and spam rapid fire as much as possible.

I use a longbow/GS pretty much everywhere, and if barrage is cooling down, I’m usually in the middle of the pack spamming maul.

I’ve tried other weapon combos, and while I like the much higher DPS of the mainhand sword, I still prefer the mobility of the greatsword. You could choose to replace the longbow with the axe/horn, given that they’re both ranged sets.
