Guild Wars 2

Hello, I’m new to this forum and I am also kind of new to Guild Wars 2. I played back when it came out and beta and all that jam but I never really liked it. I just started playing it a bit and I am working my way up to level cap. I am planning on doing mostly structured PvP but I don’t know whether I should use a shortbow or a longbow. Anything helps really! Thank a lot!

As for Shortbow or Longbow, Longbow is a direct damage weapon and Shortbow is more conditions oritented. So you might need to test both to find your playstyle!

Both longbow and shortbow have decent builds dedicated them theres the 6xx6x survival build for longbow (as well as some other variants nearly all have 6 in marksman for read hte wind however) and theres also several with the shortbow as the dedicated weapon as well (I cant think of them at this time).

All I ask before you pick them up is remember that the fighting style is more about positioning and carefully choosing your targets than it is about muscle memory and twitch reactions. If you have set yourself up correctly you have already half won. I see too many rangers try to treat the archer playstyle the same way the would a melee burst build. Doesnt work to well when you realize your exposed and a very kittened off S/D thief is coming at you.

SB isn’t necessarily a condi weapon. yes it is good in condi builds, but you can easily use it in a power build, however instead of the big bursty damage and large numbers you get with LB, its more lower numbers, but still a lot of crits and steady damage.

I put this in another post about someone looking for a sb build, i have used/played around with it for some time in ope world. trying different weapons on swap(GS & A/A) and it has been a lot of fun. Its a bit outdated but still fun and could be tweak a bit to your style.

At a minimum you will anger those you kill with it. :-)

Shortbow is not that easy to pull off on a power spec.

Lb is more power then condi (lots of dmg tics for sharpened edges trait) and sb is more condi then power (ok dmg, very fast attack rate).

As zerker ranger if it wernt for stealth on lb and (lol)900 range sb I would use sb. If im using LB I wouldn’t use sb as swap because there are better swap sets to pair with LB.

Longbow can be considered mandatory for Power-based builds in PvP.

Shortbow is for condition builds, but you can live without it.

Some people try to use both bows in the same build, but it’s just not recommended.

Shortbow - for condi builds

I used to play LB SB but I found the SB redundant, plus some mobs can reflect projectiles.

Now it is LB GS, with traits for Opening Strike on me and my pet. Can lay down 20-22 vuln on any mob before I really start combat. LB #2 completely melts most mobs in <40 zones on my level 80.
