Does the longbow range surpass the 1500 tooltip? Back in the day we had a different tooltip i believe with 1200, but we could still hit to 1500. Is this the same case now, only 1800? There are situatons in spvp where I fire downwards and the range does seem a bit further than 1500.
Im loving pewpew builds in spvp despite their effectiveness, but if the range is set at 1500 then I may as well consider deadeye.

The projectiles have an arc, so yeah they can travel a fair bit further than 1500.

They can indeed travel slightly further. Where as the deadeyes skills will be LOCKED at there max range (the porjectile actually dissapears at teh set range) longbow projectiles can extend farther based on elevation. If your above your target you can reach quite close to 2000 range. Depends entire on the situation though.

Aside from hard-stop projectiles like pistols and rifle attacks, all projectiles, including mesmer GS auto, surpass their range indicators via physics. In the case of the ranger, when traited with LtW, this usually means roughly 1800.

For example, if you cast Dancing Dagger from a thief (900 range), straight down at a target in a situation where the thief has a huge difference in elevation above its target (say in garrison in WvW) it can travel almost 1700 range before it eventually de-spawns if it doesn’t hit a target sooner.

Any “thrown” attacks that aren’t ground-targeted for example can see range increases by also having your character simply jump while casting the skill, as the arc angle stays the same thus enabling a tad bit further range of the attack as well. Depending on the projectile (I’ll use DDagger again since I’m most familiar with it), you can get an additional 100-200 extra range this way. Ranger lb auto with LtW does despawn very near the 1800 mark, however, so usually the gains are nearly negligible in this regard.

Well, I guess you must have found the perfect spot and angle in the lobby in order to hit that stationary target. Still looks 1800 range to me though.

In WvW even when standing on top of a wall shooting down 1800 range seems to be the absolute max of my arrows. On flat terrain my range does not seem to exceed 1500-1600 as I just tested it by shooting chickens at north camp. I get ‘out of range’ while my bird kills them (and pets have a leash range of 2000 as I recall).

Now it’s possible that ‘Lead the Wind’ might also increase the maximum range due to the 10% attack speed or because it adds piercing but I can’t be sure.

Your screenshot makes no sense to me btw. All I see are random scribbles about Elementalist and Warrior skills.

I did notice ‘Read the Wind’ and ‘Eagle Eye’ at the bottom. So that screenshot must be over 2 years old as ‘Read the Wind’ and ‘Eagle Eye’ were removed on June 23 2015.

Lastly in the screenshot it looked like the furthest golem was your target while the video had you shooting at the closest one and from a different spot. So no basis for comparison there.

Maybe you could do some proper testing with current builds? The PvP training area in the guild hall may be ideal for that.

But sharing 2 year old screenshots with random things scribbled on or posting a 2 year old video titled ‘Why Longbow is OP’ with no actual measurable data are of little use to anyone in my opinion.

Why should I? You seem to be the one harping on and on that it’s over 2000 range and armchairing with 2 year old obsolete images and videos. In case you didn’t bother to read I already tested it earlier today and concluded 1800 range at max in WvW.

This is actually a pretty dumb example. It only shows us that the game doesn’t account Y(verticality) as much as X(horizontality) for an arcing projectile mechanic.

No it reaches slightly more. But you can’t hit that far if you and your target are on the same level.

Yeah, that’s the kind of angles you need for that range. I had a few kills like that in wvw from the cliffs of the NW tower in the desert BL (Academy). It’s pretty rare to find yourself in the situation, but it feels great when it happens.
