Hey guys, I need some help with my ranger. For leveling in PVE should I use longbows or shortbows? Thanks!

If you insist on ranged, take Longbow with the Spotter trait and Frost Spirit.

Neither is any good for PvE. Horrible even.

if your playing with friends go with Viking , if your in for some serious runs and want money quick opt S/H+LB Spotter and frost spirit , 5,6,0.3,0 zerker gear and MAYBE 2-3 PPT trinkets to make up for the 0 in wilderness it will only loose you about 5% in crit damage and 80 in power the pet will make up for this later..
why 3 in nature magic , if your teams got one or two guards or eles or one of each those buff you get will improve and keep your pet alive for the duration of the fight( which shouldn’t be anylonger than about 15-20secs maybe shorter) , and with a near full zerker team in pve for dungeons , that pet won’t die and boost your damage by a lot more than scarificing runes for a each 5-7% damage the pet deals a lot more when buffed up.

but this is lvl 80 stuff do what you like , longbow isn’t too bad now but the range it needs kinda messes up the effectiveness , but good news they way anet are going with there new changes to dungeons it maybe a little more usefull to carry that S/H+LB set up, but abviously S/H would be you main weapon still , i found full zerker with this set up in , Ac vs the spider queen and the champ after is quite useful and p1? with the burrows the LB comes in handy.

I will never, ever give my Longbow.

That said, know when and where to use Point Blank Shot. A lot of grief that PUGs have with Longbow Rangers is when the Ranger uses PBS and knocks the enemy out of the carefully arranged trap/stack after the group has just activated their most hard-hitting skills. By all means, use PBS if the enemy is winding up to use a dangerous skill and you need to interrupt him, but use it tactically. (For example, you could maneuver yourself around the enemy and knock him further back into the wall so he doesn’t leave the stack.)

Also, make sure you carry a melee weapon as part of your kitten nal. There will be some situations where you just can’t range an enemy (permanent projectile reflection, for example), and you have to go melee if you don’t want to just sit there twiddling your thumbs.
