Have you saved up 240K Karma? Go to Orr and buy the Dwayna Arcon Armageddon armor. I’d say buy some clerics trinkets, they shouldn’t be to expensive. This will give you a little of everything. Trait X/X/30/10/X for oak heart salve and empathic bond or bark skin in survival. Also, grab natures bounty in nature magic. Do with the rest of the trait points as you will, skirmishing for short bow with axe/horn, marksmanship for longbow and short bow.
It will take a while to get proficient with your lvl 80 ranger, this gear should keep you alive and kicking until then.
Oh, and the bear will make people think your an easy target. Maybe pick a different pet.

Put 20 into the top line and grab Spotter. I think it’s the best group buff available to the ranger. You’ll also need 30 into survival(for emphatic bond or bark skin). So 20/x/30/x/x with 20 points left over to put where you want.
Get tanky gear to start with, so soldier/knights/carrion. As you get more comfortable and notice your health is staying pretty high, switch out pieces for glassier pieces like berserker.
Bring pets with group buffs, like the fury moa, the condi cleanse bear, the might cat, etc.
Also, bring healing spring.

Lots of trait advice, so heres some gear tips, with longbow / axewarhon you want damage, so go full berserker trinkets. And for armor take either nights or soldiers. Dont get crit damage armor because it is given in lower amounts compared to the other stats. Putting 20 pts in for spotter is good. Also get the 10% damage while endurance is full. I would recommend 20/20 (30% pet crit, and longbow cd)/30(fall damage, w/e, barkskin)/0/0. For pets have at least 1cat/bird primary and a tanky 2nd pet. (I prefer drakes but if you really like your bear then use him). signet of stone is really good along with signet of the hunt. 3rd should vary deprnding on where you are: Muddy terrain for pvp, quickening zephyr for solo, and search and rescue for dungeons and group events.

If you intend to do Fractals or particularly Dungeon, stay away from Conditions builds and from bows.
Go for a Power-based build, melee weapons mostly and keep the Horn for the awesome buff and strong burn CD. You will want to run pets, traits and skills that support your group strongly (Healing Spring, Red Moa, Frost Spirit, Spotter, etc.)
Sword mainhand is your strongest DPS weapon. Goes well with Warhorn. If you need some reflects swap in off-hand Axe for Axe 5 (it not only deflects but also reflects). Dagger in offhand is good for fights where you need good evades and do not want to risk rooting with the sword (Alpha in CoE).

I personally prefer Ranger runes. And if you feel you are too squishy because of Zerker gear, learn to dodge and evade better + use some Omnomberry Pie for the extra regen.
PvP and WvW is another story, but for PVE and dungeons this is a very good and reliable build.

Depends on what your looking for. Dungeons/fractals/PvE your going to want to play berserker and not use the bear. Trait something like 30/30/10/x/x especially if your using LB + SB. Use red moa/jungle stalker/spider/wolf or something that gives your party benefits like fury,might,immob,fear. Bear also puts out too little damage and its f2 really isn’t worth it. As a ranger you can actually do some damage with might and your LB now as they increased the damage and take full advantage of that. You should be able to easily hit 1.5k+ per shot at some range and switch to SB when they close in. If your going to use axe/warhorn you might want to trait a little differently so that call of the wild can be up a lot. This is all for PvE as a crit/power ranger who constantly gives might/fury is a pretty decent addition to any dungeon/PvE party.
If you want to play PvP theres a wide range of builds you can play that are very effective like LB + GS, SB+ S/W, etc. Try what you like the most and trait accordingly.
This is the build i use in dungeons.
Basically with this build your just trying to stack vulnerability for your party.

#1—>#3—>#2—>#5—>#3—>#1×2—>#2—>swap(greatsword)-#2×2+autos within 10 second swap —>#3—>#2—>#5—>#3—>#1×2—>#2 rinse and repeat.
Only use this against bosses.
I swap out remorseless with piercing arrows when fighting trash mobs.

You can swap to singet of the beastmaster(signet of stone) when you need to do parts where you need to absorb damage like examples Dredge zone in fractals when you have to put down the bombs to destroy gate. When doing skips in arah.
This also works well with signet of wild when you need to dps structures only do this in CoF path 1,2. In path 1 use it if your going to do gate zeyphr+sick em+signet of wild while using sword+feline. In path 2 use it on end crystal thing. I use shortbow here since sword doesn’t really work out to well attacking that thing. Use the ledge near the crystal and swap your pet and command it to attack to get your pet to attack the crystal.
