So, my guild decided to help a core guildie get her DM title by running P4 of Arah, and seeing as how my Arah experience is minimal, and I’ve been hanging with the core guild group lately, they asked me to tag along. After about 45 minutes to an hour in, we got up to Lupi. Since most of us were new (I myself had yet to beat him, but knew the fight) we stayed ranged the entire fight, and the mesmer would rez the downed players.

We downed him on our fourth attempt, and every fight against Lupi, he would choose me out of two warriors, a guard, and a mesmer. Every shadowstep was directed at me, so over raidcall we’d all hear "Lupi shadowsteps to Vic (pronounced like the beginning of Vicodin) And of course I’d dodge every shadowstep at me, unless I really couldn’t muster the endurance, or my SB 3 was on CD from the AoE spam dodging.

I’ve come to this conclusion: Anets extent of hate towards rangers is so big, Lupicus and every other dungeon boss in this games aim is to focus us down entirely.

Anyone else have Lupi vs Ranger stories?

Your problem is an issue of experience not class. There are armies of experienced rangers who have easily beat this boss and every other dungeon.

Lupicus in his second phase focuses one target to consistently shadow step to, regardless of class. I’ve heard reasons such as the target’s toughness or lack thereof, or that the target damaged him first in phase 2—someone feel free to illuminate.

Equip lightning reflexes and protect me to confront Lupicus. The vigor and brief pseudo-invulnerability help a lot to avoid his massive damage. For the last utility, equip the toughness signet, movespeed signet, or search and rescue. For pets, use the fernhound for regen and the pig for healing seed/egg/silliness. Spirit of nature’s rez capacity is also recommended in contrast to other elites as they can’t offer anything in this fight.

ahahah, thatg sounds really fun XD but ranger isn’t the only hated class … really… yesterday in CM path 3 there was a necromancer hated by every kitten ed trash enemy XD we was able to avoid combat simply walking near the wall but when he tried every single mob of the map attacked him XD really hilarious… 30 mins of tries for this…

You should be happy he focused you. As ranger you had biggest chances to survive, thanks to big amount of dodges.
About skills, imo RaO is nice if you get closed in his bubble. GS 4. is also imba, coz you can block all hits and wait for bubble to open.

I did Lupi the other day on the ranger for the first time since the shortbow range was cut down to 900m. I did get a lot of his attacks, the tunnel, the life drain, and another throw, but he always has a favorite target for each attack and fortunately I was best dodger in the group. Anyway he can pick anyone for the attacks but generally does go for tanky types.

You can do every dg as a ranger. I’ve killed lupi tons of times on my ranger, and I’m not even a pve player, actually I hate pve. The only problem is our stupid broken pet mechanic, but that’s something we have to live with. After all, like those not-so-smart anet fanboys always say “you can kill the boss anyway even if your pet is dead, so the class is perfect”.

He also always focus on me, i’ve done maybe an hundred path of arah, 75% he’d focus on me, your best bet against lupi is using Axe/Axe + GS, Protect me and LR + RaO or spirit if not focused (easy to step out of fight), i also like to have a pig, that drop invulnerable elexir.
attack 5 of the axe at the step of lupi to send him back his ranged attacks, 4 of the GS while axe 5 is on cooldown or if you are in his stability required AoE.
i even believe i could solo the mofo which i’ll accomplish when i get more time on my hands

This is funny because in every open world group event the same thing happens to me. As soon as i start firing the mobs look right at me and chase me down. People have even said it in chat.“man he really hated you” It doesn’t matter if the fight was already started. I show up start firing mob looks right at me and focuses on me.

I slaughter Lupi with my Zerker/Cavalier Ranger. he attacks so slow you can completely regen full hp by the time he hits you again, plus we have enough evades/vigor/prot that we shouldnt get downed anyway
