Making a Rnager
Don’t do it. Anet hates rangers.
Well for WvW, which I do not play often so forgive me if I’m slightly misguided, zerging rangers are considered pretty undesirable. Solo roaming or small scale stuff in WvW we’re considered one of the better ones if not one of the best. PvP seems to be ok for rangers except for the elite level- based on the lack of them. However, Ele’s are able to compete with rangers in all of these cases or blow them out of the water in the case of zerging. But playing this class for whatever reason is still a blast! But if solely for the purposes you mentioned, it’d probably be safer to go ele. They seem to be pretty good for everything.
Rangers are not that bad.
But one thing you should keep in mind is:
Rangers are not hunters. Hunter in WoW is a ranged class. Ranger in GW2 is not a ranged class. We are a pet-class that can pick a ranged weapon just as a warrior can.
Overall, we are not bad. But we are a long way to go to become meta. If you want to be overpowered everywhere you go – make an Ele.
If you want to enjoy pets – Ranger is the way to go.
But Ranger =/= Hunter. This has to be noted.
in PvP consider Spike Trap and HS + trappers expertise even if to only test it and see for yourself.
spike trap with Trait Works in Pvp even on power stats with Krait runes the Trappers Expertise really amps up the bleeds but the main use is to KD anyone comming towards the Node so you can RF>pbs>huntershot> barrage them down with Remoreless wilderness knowledge set up.
Marksman, skirmishing , wilderness makes a tanky Power spec. though while using this playstyle LB/ Sword+dagger or Gs, Sword+axe is better than LB/GS as you’d want to swap weapons Actively.
reason why LB/Sword+dagger or gs , Sword+axe , GS is better with this set up.

Slot Sigil of corruption (increases and scales the trap quite high)
Autos apply Might to pet which works into Improving damage with Remoresless
Path of Scars>maul combo after applying Remoreless Vun and Building Might with zyphers speed makes this combo even stronger with the Trap.
Spike trap > PoS > gs4 or gs 5 > maul
Quickdraw
Remoreless
Wilderness Knowledge
its a Fun quick set up which has good on point support CC’s and high spike Damage from alternating Mauls>pos to Pos>maul.
a lot of people will say its not worth it but it is , " its just a play style you may like"
