I can’t express how sad I am to read these patch notes, the 50% reduction to quickness is just a game ruining nerf for my berserker ranger, who I already struggled to keep on par with other classes in terms of damage output. The berserker ranger’s game revolves around quickness, I’m pretty sure I’ll have to completely respec with a whole new set of gear if I want to keep playing this class. Today is a very sad day for me, the saddest since I started playing in October.
My question to other glass cannon rangers, do you think there can still be competitive berserker builds or is glass cannon dead and buried for this class?
I’ll try to make mine revolve around dodging, but if it doesn’t work, I’ll have to give up on it.
The only reason I was able to make a berserker ranger work somewhat was because of quickness, which allowed me to burst out enemies before they could re-stealth over and over among other things. I won a fair amount of duels with it so it was not a completely useless build.
In comparison to other berserker builds, the damage is relatively pitiful without quickness. Longbow arrows will never connect on an enemy without quickness, the only way that the weapon was made somewhat viable.

I agree 100%, my beserker build was dependent on the quickness especially for the 4,3,2, longbow burst.
With my beserker armor and weapons, along with time spent, I have invested way too much to just walk away from the build, but I agree that the build is definitely weaker now. Most important thing with this build is keeping distance since we cannot down people quick with our kitten bursts anymore
Just did a quick test, where before I could use qz then get through rapid fire and almost all of barrage in the 4 seconds, now I just make it through rapid fire and start barrage before qz runs out… definitely a huge difference.

Yup the only viable dps build for rangers has been crippled by the quickness nerf. GG Anet you have killed off the Ranger class completely. You have literally taken away our only viable dps build.

None other could do such consistent damage from 1500 range though. I mean I would auto-attack for 4k and rapid fire for 15k, but without quickness, there’s no way you’re going to land anything unless they improve on arrows and targeting. Quickness just made those arrows fly at a speed they should have in the first place.
Not everyone wants to play trapper build or some other build, for us rangers who wanted a dps build from a distance this quickness nerf hurts. Adding one second does not even come close to compensating for the 50% nerf, like I said for those who regularly used qz before the update there will be a huge difference with the new quickness

I am certainly not deluded enough to think that this fixes the game, but I think it’s a step in the right direction. Instagib damage doesn’t promote interesting play unless you are loaded up on stunbreakers. Global burst nerfing means they can buff individual skills more readily now, as well as tone down overpowered bunker skills on certain professions without worrying about huge backlash.
You could stand to be a bit more polite.

Probably it didn’t affect flight speed but it made using auto-attack and rapid fire actually worthwhile. Right now it’s just way too slow in comparison to the damage done.
I felt quite comfortable with the zerker ranger and the damage it did with quickness, but obviously now it’s useless. I’m not saying it was the greatest ranger build out there, but people were surprised to see a ranger do actual damage on them and it made for a fun, different build from the usual.

I’m in the same boat as Paz and I’m sure many others, I’ve invested a huge amount of time, laurels, gold, etc. on a berserker build that just can’t work anymore. The only thing I’m happy about is that this change came before I went for Kudzu.
I don’t know, I might take a break from the game for a little bit or mess around with my alts to get my dailies, I just don’t have the heart to start gearing all over again for a trapper or beastmaster-bunker, at least not immediately.
I was not so lucky, I have full ascended on mine. Been thinking for the past hour and just can’t find a viable way to make it work. But getting rid of all the equipment is not really an option either.
I’ll just leave it as it is in hopes that ranger bows get buffed someday, while playing other characters.
i hate it; fine with the quickness nerf on every other class; but it hurts ranger way too much
Yeah, seriously kittens over ranger in dungeons… The whole usefulness was based on having a lot of quickness and using that to do damage at least semi on par with other classes. Generous access to quickness was one of the few things ranger had going for it. Really happy about the GS buff, as I already used that in pvp and now it will be even better, but pretty depressed at the outlook of ranger in pve. Also, banners are so much ridiculously better than spirits now, it’s very sad.
I made a guardian a while back, think its time to shelf the ranger and see if I can focus on him, at this point it isn’t worth investing more time into my ranger build. Sad too, played ranger in gw1 and had no problems with the class.
Switch to shortbow, it’s better than longbow anyway for dps.
If it makes you feel better, my thief (which I made after the shortbow nerf) feels this too – I was running quickness from signet, trait, and utility, so it’s going to require a complete rework too. It’s probably about the same as QZ + pet change haste (since that is available more frequently).

I suppose it wouldn’t help to mention that the animation bug that was there for rangers and “fixed” is still there for thieves?

The reason why people say you’re deluded is not because of the direction the game’s heading, but of how slow and how careless the developters address these issue.
You said there could be a sb or lb buff after the quickness nerf, but when?
Next month? 2 months later? 2014?
Players cannot wait forever, if the developters break a mechanic, they should conpensate it in other ways ASAP.
But we all know how slow and careless Anet now is…

Quickness nerf was uncalled for, period. That doesn’t change the fact that the banner buffs were substantial.
What made the QZ nerf worse for ranger is that’s your only source of burst which was not even on par with another class’ burst, and even that is now gone.

the question is what will i use now? Everything with rangers is either broken or nerfed to death, what is a good build to run now.

I’m going to try a BeastMaster build since zerker isn’t great anymore, if that fails, I will probably work full time on my Warrior.
Add the fact that our wolf CC has been significantly reduced beserke builds are dead. The only thing we can do now is go condition. Might as well go tanky because no one can burst anymore.

i gave them the benefit of the doubt because i cant believe we the players know more about the game and ranger class that the own people that design, created and build this game. I just refuse to believe that…

Obviously I won’t salvage all my ascended gear, I’ll probably just bank my COF armor and invest all the karma I was saving up for Kudzu to get Rabid gear. I have the laurels to replace my amulet, I just need to farm fractals a bit for the rings.
I played around with my ranger in Frostgorge Sound last night, and to be honest I don’t think my LB/GS build is much worse off in PvE thanks to the GS buffs. It’s just totally ruined in WvW as I can’t land barrage anymore and it was my main source of damage. I only use greatsword to stay alive, you can’t go melee with a glass cannon ranger in PvP.
