So I am just going to leave this here: https://youtu.be/GBZtYUa-pLg
How is this acceptable? 10 hits in 2 minutes while the pets owner was using “sic ’em!”
It’s kittening stupid
You think that’s bad. If only Wyverns could be used in PVP. From my experience so far in open-world.
I’ve stopped using Wyverns completely in PVE. Could only imagine how bad they are chasing actual players.
It’s a joke.

First off you were not attacking (putting you in combat which would make you run slower).
Secondly if your send all your time running from the pet then you are not dealing with the ranger. The pet isn’t suppose to do all the work. Rangers have tools to aid their pets.

Pets are supposed to hit, and when I do get into combat, which is about 20 seconds into the video, it still is painfully easy to dodge. On top of that this isn’t any different movement than what happens in combat, in fact more active defenses are taken in combat so the pet will miss more in real combat.

Pet can’t clear cripple and chill, so it will be much slower than on video, and Pet can’t use Dodge-Roll as a gap closer to reach target under cripple.
Improving the AI is a very slippery slope. One one hand you can have it like we have now, the pets are too easy to avoid because they cannot keep up or attack on the move and have bad pathing, but there is a fine line between improving that and making them set-and-forget DPS machines, AI that is doing all the work.
I think they could start with a base run speed increase, so when neither have buffs, a pet is 20% faster than a player (50% faster if traited into BM) and then increase the range on all melee skills to 250-300, that should improve them substantially, and would be far easier and less time consuming to actually code. Then see how that goes and then make another decision on whether more improvement is needed.
They could even just do it to one pet for live testing, ie take the Owl and give it +20% base run speed (already has 300 melee range), if it is a decent improvement over the other pets, make it so across the board.
Here is the bird, only time it hit is when it gave itself swiftness – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7DWcU3ULtw
if i remember correctly the problem was (is!), that the pets seem to have a ‘casttime’ for theyr attacks, they can’t move while ‘casting’ and the hit/miss is calculated after the ‘casttime’ is finished…
I actually quit the game over a year ago because of of the bad pet gameplay experience (pathing, failing to hit moving targets, no player controll over abilities except vor f2, getting melted in aoe, inability to dodge onehit abilities, ‘eating’ boons…)
i would have loved to buy the addon and give the game another chance, but the issue you show in your videos (among other ranger issues) is exactly what made me quit in the first place…
Now that i read the ranger forums a bit i’m really disappointed, wich at least saves me some money i guess?:D
i really wish all of you rangers still playing good luck that they fix our class!

Haha, that is hilariously bad!
You’d need to test it with more speed on the pet, or the target with less speed to see if a 20% base speed increase would help. Can you get the target to use swiftness and then you apply a cripple? That should reduce the speed by 17% which is close to a 20% increase for the bird.
The problem with the bird too is it stopping to cast the swiftness buff, which takes ages. That would need to be changed too.

hi target ranger so the only time the pets could hit me was either A. they game them self swiftness or B. sigent of the hunt. but in but case while in combat i was out running them about 60% of the time. the pets would need a baseline 33% speed increase at the min but even then they will be missing there attacks often.
I have to wonder how it would be if the cast times and animation for the swoop were removed and it was just a shout.
Either way, this shows how bad they truely are.
Thematically, any animal should be able to outrun a human, in game it should be the case too, you have demonstrated that perfectly.

Lol!
If you got the time, please make more videos. Try with sic’em and other abilities like QZ for superspeed!
Really devs, take a look at the videos and ask yourself if this looks ok to you?

The first video had the ranger owners pet using Sic ’Em. Ranger pets are completely broken and not reliable with their damage. Want to fix rangers? Fix pets first.
Learn to evade, man!
All joking aside, this is another reason why Ranger needs to avoid ranged weapons and fight with melee. The pet has a better chance of hitting when you are exchanging blows with someone in melee.
Regardless, the really good players keep moving in melee range, so the pet will only hit when it gets lucky, or you use some kind of control condition to slow them down. I try to keep swiftness on pet as much as possible. That helps a little.
Even with this showing how bad pets are against moving targets, there’s already crying about smokescales’ damage on the “revenant-like” skill. Expect a nerf on smokescale, before anything at all happens to pet “stickiness”.

Of course. Devs have proven time and time again that they are very quick to respond to things that benefit rangers. Just to name ONE, that was just a few days ago – We heal as one.
As for other issues that – not so fast to fix, if at all.

This is a critically game breaking issue for rangers, it is the biggest reasons rangers are bad atm.
