Mesmers
stealth helps, use hunters shot on clones as Mesmer will likely have lots of evade and blocking. evading confusing images (laser beam) will help and note its only 900 range. sublime conversion will help against condi projectile staff Mesmer/clones. If you got an army of clones rushing at you dodgeroll through them (forward) so they die into your evade frame. If you dodgeroll away they might just keep coming and hit you after your dodge. Let condi stack up instead of freaking out and blowing all your removals. Always let the Mesmer do the chasing. If they are chasing you have the advantage as they flail like a rabid dog trying to take you down. If you do the chasing they will just kite you to death and never present a target for you to attack.
Very Easy. Duel a lot of em. I spent the majority of my pvp life dueling hundreds of mesmers.
I will tell you this is the best thing you can do.
Mesmers go down pretty kitten fast to the crit bleed build especially if you do hit and runs from max range, abusing stealth/ancestral grace so they can’t clear condi’s through shatters.
LGN
I would suggest using longbow/ancient seeds build with good timing. That really hurts them.
Better version would be trapper/condi ranger, which again bugs them like hell.
Your mobility is better, so you can kite them. Otherwise it is like what stickerhappy said, duel with them. Whenever I have a problem with some profession/build, I duel until I understand the mechanics (or I play with that same build).
Here’s some simple tips
First always kite, if they pin you in the middle of their clones your kittened like the ones said above hunters shot and making them chase you are key.
Secondly always always retarget when soloing I ALWAYS call target on the real one to keep track of them better, in wvw look for the food buff. Don’t waste your burst on the clones unless your traited to pierce or are using an aoe (mesmers biggest contribution to seeps is through their clones so if you can negate the damage done by them, then your ahead of the game.
Finally, bring more cleanse!!! I really really like trooper runes or using survival skills with leadership runes when traited because I can time smaller cleanses and save celestial form for the big cc/ clone bomb
Bonus* if you have a bunch of torment and confusion on you just slow down!!! Remember if you move with torment on or attack like crazy with confusion on you’ll kill yourself, just micro manage your mini cleanses and time them with your bursts!!!
I cannot stress how much you need to be patient, if you panic and hit every button good bye my friend.
Okay, so avoid the clones then but don’t kill them? That is, basically kite them and try to make the mesmer miss a shatter or just keep kiting.
I’ll try LB, I have been using SB + S/T as a condi build, but I think the SB is killing me when I get confusion on. It’s a shame as I’m way more used to being in the thick of things then at range.
LB just seems safer now that I’m thinking about it. I was really underrating hunter’s shot I guess.
Sorry if I wasn’t clear. Some situations it’s better to kill the clones (especially if you have aoe) however it’s better to just kite back and focos the real mesmer. Also yea it’s a hard fight with sb. Try leadership runes if your running ws survival traits (just gives a nice clear every time you pop entangle)
Also would help if you have an alt free for mes try it out in pvp running the.meta build so you can get a feel for what they’re trying to do too and know what skills they have)
Yea also use hunters shot in the clones so it don’t get reflected or blocked
Lolwhat no, it’s never better to kill dire clones, certainly not with condi it will take forever and the mesmer will already have shattered them.
Gottejeken, the real reason that you are having problems is likely that both sword and shortbow have backward evades so when you use them the clones just keep following after your evade. When you are in sword/torch you are just food for a mesmer.
turn off auto-attack when fighting mesmer heavy teams.
save your dodges for the shatters, that’s the biggest damage and also what layers on the condi’s
don’t spam your cleanses
build doesn’t matter as much as some say. mesmers don’t have a ton of hp so either a condi based or power build will eventually down them. imho it’s more about timing your defenses that what offensive strategy you choose.

The skill where the mesmer is surrounded by a purple bubble produces phantasms. If you dodge at the right time you can “evade” the skill and a phantasm will not be produced.

Helseth (an ESL mesmer) mentions this trick and a way that high ranking players counter players who dodge this skill. You likely won’t have to worry about that.
This is only a small trick but it can help you hurt the clone generation.
You should pick up a mesmer build and play it for a night or two. Understanding how classes work from both sides helps me win more 1v1s.

Mesmers are kinda broken right now the same as DDs. They can build very tanky but keep a massive burst in case of the Mesmer in confusion stacks.
It does not matter if you clean up those as the Mesmer can keep applying them just for being around and ven if you cleanse the 20 stacks of confusion it will be able to keep 6-10 on you at all times.
If you can’t kill them at the spot with the pewpew just avoid them, when something is o broken it is not fun to be waste time with it.
