Mighty Roar
All pet “roars” have a chance to cancel and go on CD if the pet is pathing or still in an animation. This is an inherit bug and there is not work around for this I’ve seen.
It’s “press and pray” mechanics.
I tend to get it most of the time, but yes, the buff pets F2 are bugged. The Red Moa drives me insane with the fury deciding not to work for some reason…
Save the Bell Choir activity!
Were you near other people? Pets don’t prioritize the ranger or themselves when casting their abilities.
What I think is more funny than this is when you run, activate mighty roar, your pet starts it and while it resolves you’re already out of range.
Well designed ANet, well designed
It’s not only mighty roar. Seeing the same a lot with different canines as well as moas. Occationally the pet will start the animation and then the skill effect won’t trigger. It seems to be any pet with an animation connected to their f2.
Sometimes the skill will trigger a bit delayed, but if you press f2 again before it triggers, it will cancel and go on full cd (experience mainly from red moa, wolf, drakehound and fern hound as those are the pets I’ve used most. Not sure how many other pets suffer from this)
But at least standing still usually helps. With the canines, the bug happened more often while fighting (can’t think of many cases where the canine skills are useful while not fighting though, except for when running tests) where the pet wanted to do another skill, or while running.

Oh I thought about it possibly going on other players so I did the test standing perfectly still (and the pet) so no animations, no pathing, no anything other than swaying.
It still was buggy. It is a key element to my dumping lots of stacks of might quickly with +boon duration and a strong spirit build it makes up all the condition damage and then some. Sigh.
Guess I need help on better might stacking now!

The bug is worse than that. I was sitting at 1500 range against Jormag. Pet standing motionless beside me, no other mobs or ice pillars nearby. Hit F2 three times and it never activated. Hit it twice quickly and it went into cooldown without activating, after which it worked normally.
Guys, DON’T spam F2. Just hit it once. Hitting it repeatedly as if in a panic will cancel the ability and put it on cooldown. I found that out a while ago after binding my F2 to mousewheel down.
I especially like the bug where you activate the skill, but it does nothing, and goes on full cooldown. I don’t know what the folks over at Anet HQ are doing, but it’s not bug testing/fixing.

It is more reliable when you only push it once. I did notice that. And don’t try to cast it on cooldown which is what I was doing with lacerating slashes on my condi build.
It’s completely hit and miss. Sometimes mine fails and goes on cooldown when my pet isn’t doing anything. At all. It’s great.
Try hitting f3 then f2. Sometimes the pet won’t run around to cast that way.
It works best on “preload” as in something you do as you are engaging but not when engaged.

ie. When your pet is on passive and you don’t have someone selected yet
Which is pretty much the only way to use a pet in WvW unfortunately.
