Most efficient use of pet? (pve BM build)
I wouldn’t put much stock in pets. They die WAY too easily, and if you invest a lot in to them, there goes all your damage. Until they add a buff that decreases AoE damage taken by 90% like another game we know, IMO, pet’s shouldn’t be priority in terms of dealing a large % of damage.
Drop commanding voice for mighty swap, ideally you want to be swapping pets often for the quickness + save on blowing heals on pet and mighty swap is basically 100% uptime for 3 stacks of might on the pet (since swap cd is 15 and mighty swap might stacks are 30 secs),only time you shouldn’t be swapping is when you’re in rage as one as it will remove your pets buffs.
Ccommanding voice isn’t great since pet swapping resets all the pet abilities including f2s anyway (meaning you can just cast them every 15 instead of waiting for cooldowns anyway).
If you’re swapping pets every 15 they will rarely die, that means you can probably switch out signet of stone for something else, quickening zephyr preferably however fire trap is always decent in melee and for wolf pets (as they have 2 leap finishers) even if you don’t go for high cond damage.
Perhaps also drop protect me (I don’t really like it, havn’t had much problems survivability wise if you’re careful) meaning you can take both QZ + fire trap or w/e you prefer.
Also I’d personally drop expertise training for wilderness knowledge (20% surv skills reduction) especially if you free that utility up to get zephyr.
Also just to mention pet wise I use a Jaguar (stealth for 100% crit +QZ burst during RAO) and a canine (personally I use hyena for double pet but Sylvan hound is also nice for the regen) since canines are a decent mix of dps and tank ability while also having knockdown/cripple leap finishers.
thx for feedbacks!
Don’t listen to Troponin
In this game pets would be OP if they were any harder to kill.
My recommendation is 30 Survival, 30 BM and trait the other 10 where you want.
In BM, Pick up Faster recharge on pet skills, 3 stacks of might when you activate a pet, and natural healing. In Survival, pick up Survival skills + whatever middle trait you want + Bark skin.
Bark Skin + Natural Healing + Heal skill + a tough pet (Bear/Boar/Canine/Drake) solves the issue of pets dying. Now my wolves still die in 3 hits from a buffed veteran supervisor in wvw, but then….so do I. I just need to be smart and rotate my pets and use recall liberally. Offensively, I use pet swaps, quickness and sharpening stone to really lay on the bleeds. I mix power and cond damage personally. That way I’m not a one trick pony with my damage.
In the end, your pet doesn’t dodge roll and it doesn’t avoid red circles. A ranger is a steward of their pet. If you’ve ever cared for a animal, you know you are the one responsible for keeping them out of danger. So it goes in the game, too.
skirmishing is essential to maximize pet. pet’s prowess and carnivorous appetite, 30 in BM. SoW and Natural Healing. between this and your heals, pet will be alive forever. gear-wise, id go for power and maybe a little more precision.

Did you ever do an explorable dungeon?…

Lol yea I gotta ask have you ever done an explorable dungeon? Pets die in 10 seconds from bosses AoE not talking about regular mobs. BM works though if you play like shortbow/sword+warhorn or GS. Ideally use birds/Moas for the blind/bleed/chill and buffs constantly switch pets too but regardless when you get to a boss in a dungeon the AoE will destroy it. Best suggestion is to use a ranged pet at bosses like spider for survivability and immobilize. Pets are not as terrible as most people say they now hit moving targets much better and DPS from pets isn’t terrible(my bear hits for around 350-400 and its my lowest damage pet) add that to my 1200 crits from longbow hits decently hard especially if I had more than 10 points in BM. My complaint for pets arises at how easily they die especially from AoE esp bosses. Need to really reduce AoE damage by 50%. I don’t mind if my pet gets targeted by 5 guys and dies because it did its job in tanking for a little bit giving my team more time to kill the mob but when one boss AoE kills it kinda sucks.

He’s a PvP whiner probably bringing in the good status of pets in spvp without the context of silver/veteran mobs that 3-4 shot your pet through mere conal melee autoattacks.
Whiner? Really? No need to be rude and I’m sorry but this game is balanced around PvP. Hence the title; Guild Wars! But I’m not going to resort to name calling like pve whiner or some such. Nope I’ll just be on my merry way.
PS: You were all trolled. Of course pets in this game need to be like WoW’s.

Pets are exceptionally good contrary to nay sayers and I rarely lose them in dungeons, even less common to lose both.
My only suggestion is to swap out signet of stone for signet of wild. you will get far more out of the regen on your pet and yourself then the minor deflection in damage from the pultry toughness increase.
Also the active rarely comes into play if you are keeping aware of your pets health and swapping and healing on time. For me, general rule of thumb is if pet reaches half health it is heal skill (use them for both, healing spring is great because it still provides its passive over time to you if you didn’t need it), if heal is long ways away to cool down then swap. Half health is about when pets are at risk of being one shotted. This coming from another BM uber buffed pet.
Im telling u. SoW + carnivorous appetite + natural healing = pet doesnt die. I hate how people start whining without even trying the different options. I keep 25 stacks of master’s bond on my jag at all times for even more ownage in pve
I’m sorry but this game is balanced around PvP. Hence the title; Guild Wars! .
I’m sorry but this is not true.
The Guild Wars are the series of at least three wars among different guilds in the three human kingdoms of Ascalon, Kryta, and Orr. The wars ended only because the charr invasion from the north meant an even bigger threat to the three kingdoms.
The second Guild War was memorialized by the construction of Surmia in 1020 AE. Ascalon was the kingdom victorious of this war according to the Historical Monument of Surmia. It is unlikely that the war ended during 1020 AE, however, due to the length of the latest Guild War.
The most recent Guild War lasted for 57 years (from 1013 AE until 1070 AE). The war caused much suffering and hatred between the people of the three kingdoms. These old wounds can be seen in the present day in the form of the mistrust King Adelbern holds towards the efforts of Kryta to help Ascalon recover from the charr invasion, particularly towards Ambassador Zain. During this war, King Adelbern was a war hero which led to his eventual crowning as a king instead of Barradin becoming king.
While there have been many Guild Wars prior to this one, when characters in the game refer to the Guild War, they mean the last one which ended with the Searing. While initially confined to a conflict between guilds, when open combat erupted in the streets of Arah, Orr responded to protect its holy city. The military action against Krytan and Ascalonian guilds spurred the other nations into responding, leading to open conflict between the three nations.
I may not be an expert but here’s how i handle my pet.
I always use protect me when get swarmed + signet of stone.
Go back a bit using Lightning reflexes and once my pet died switch to another.
It’s not all the time you have to use your pet to attack. That’s what i learned so far.
It’s a great support too. And comes handy at times. Most of the time for me. Especially taking damage for me.
