Whot is an influential GW2 Ranger player?
The dude who posts videos about what he do, laughing when he die or just cut it off,
the dude who posts unuseable builds that only work on really unskilled enemies and even showing that off, but not really even playing anymore,

or some of us who still here and standing for our justice, fighting through our weakness and still being able to lead WWW well, and lastly, feedbacking the Devs even if it seems hopeless?

So Settler’s Spirit builds and Celestial Spirit builds AREN’T meta builds right now for PvP? By all means, enlighten us then.

You can disagree all you want, because even I agree that I’m just another forum goer and I didn’t even put myself on my own list, I’m just a community member. But that gives you no entitlement to be rude or disrespectful just because I post a lot and people decide to have conversations with me.

Nothing is set in stone with anything I post. I theorycraft, I play the game the way I play, and I push the builds I come up with to their competitive limit in my hands versus other players, and then I post them with the hopes that somebody else has success with them or can take them to a level I’m incapable of.

I never ONCE said anything I said was certain. Even Chrispy will testify to the fact that almost nothing I say is definite, because I’d rather have a constructive conversation and weigh options than say that a particular way of playing or choice for playing is more definitive than another. I let Brazil and Turtledragon and Guanglai handle PvE, and most of the builds I post I take directly from NA and EU weekly tournaments and change either rune or sigil choices for my own playstyle, so you’re essentially insulting every single trait setup that people run at the highest tier of gameplay.

But that’s okay, I could just report you for harassing me on the forum instead of being constructive, since you’re in clear violation of the code of conduct. Instead, I’m choosing to respond to you to show you that I’m not moved by your anonymity empowered attitude enough to retaliate and argue with you, because I agree with you that everything on these forums should be viewed with a certain amount of skepticism.

But I don’t agree that any of the builds I’ve posted recently are anywhere near the poor quality you claim them to be, and I read your post with as much skepticism as your read my posts. I see that you offer nothing but negativity, and are more than likely attempting to troll in that regard by dragging a poor response out of me instead of providing anything constructive to back your skepticism. And with that I say, shame on you for your poor, toxic post, when you could have actually made a very good point, called me out on some of my shortcomings, and provided a counter argument.

Because I’d really love to see it. I’m only one person, I have a set way of thinking, if somebody on these forums can actually surprise me with a build for rangers I haven’t seen or thought of, that actually works, then I will put their name with their build in my signature for giving me hope in an otherwise currently stagnate game.

You, Prysin, I enjoy Gladomer’s Ranger streams when he roams, though he only really runs Axe/Dagger Sword/Torch EB and SotF roaming builds, but one of the more consistent ranger streamers that I’ve seen with a solid enough build for roaming.

Xsorus and Tanbin are both great duelists, and a good in-game guy I know that is less active on the forums than he used to be, Arrow Slanger (ItsFinished) runs the RRR coined build style with guard from Faux, in both PvP and in WvW I believe, and he is more than exceptional at the class, and could duke it out with any of the rest of the players I know of on ranger and other classes and hold his own at the very least, easy.

I wish more WvW guys would stream though. I get on twitch multiple times everyday trying to find ranger streamers, and if a ranger streamer is both consistent and I respect the way he plays, I would promoting him up and down these forums.

I have every class level 80 though, and I spend less time in WvW on my ranger, and I’m certainly no hardcore WvW player. I don’t even use food, I’m tier 4 and I only play in organized guild groups, and at that point I can get away with slightly off PvP builds depending on the role I play (like Shatter Mesmer for instance).

Yeah, not many rangers play wvw consistently and are also willing/able to stream. Somebody could stream a ranger roaming alone or in a group, but that could get boring pretty quickly. Although tbh I wouldn’t watch a ranger streaming either, simply because I could go out do exactly what they were doing

It’s not just ranger though, the only stream I’ve seen that pick up a lot of traffic is Chemsorly’s stream. He’s an ele and streams guild raids or blob fights. But it seems like the streamers are few and far between for all classes when it comes to wvw unfortunately.

Also promoting Spirit rangers is like promoting hambow for warriors. If you really want the ranger community to sink to that level of passive play then by all means keep promoting it. I rather see more skill based gameplay then throwing spirits up and spamming 1 with shortbow =D

Just because you have an issue with a build doesn’t keep it from being a meta build. A meta build is, by definition, the most easy to operate and effective build in the current metagame.

Better yet though, I made an entire build thread for the PvP meta that includes trap variants as well.

Who are you?

I don’t think that there were Rangers making an impact on the game and players yet, for similar reasons Cure listed.

But I have huge respect for jcbroe. Not really because he’s a ranger player or anything like that, but more for managing huge Ranger topics on forums, making summaries and bringing up some valid points.

It shows the dedication, as he not only keeps the discussions constructive but more because he does some actions like summaries or so which make our points and opinions way more accesible for developers. And that can influence the future of Ranger profession the most, I thin

Because in my personal opinion, Rangers really suck balls now.

As far as PvE goes, I would have to say Guangali without a doubt. He/she pioneered the Frost Spirit/Spotter/sword ranger meta build and fought hard against ridicule and people laughing at him/her when he/she dared to claim rangers could play a valuable role in zerker dungeon groups.

I would argue it was Guangali’s focus on % damage modifiers that paved the way for all of the current PvE meta builds across all classes. Without Guangali I’m not sure rangers would have ever been respected as a possible dungeon party member.

Even today you see Gaungali post in meta discussions defending the ranger with facts instead of “lol bearbow” nonsense. Things like pointing out the slight DPS difference with the greatsword and sword (for players that don’t want to swordlock themselves and still melee) or that sword and max range longbow have similar DPS (but misses out on party buffs). It’s not just the number crunching he/she does, it’s the fact that Guangali will continue to do it despite being ridiculed by others.

I’ve learned a few things from streaming in a couple games.

A. It completely blows streaming if you’re solo in a game with PvP like ESO and Guild Wars 2 (WvW)….Most of the time, you’re dying to groups of people, Running from groups of people, or looking for people to fight..Its a whole lot of boring. Its a bit better if you’re in a group cause you don’t have to run from groups of people anymore, So the action is more consistent…But generally watching a solo stream in ESO or GW2 is boring as hell..Which is why i stopped doing it, and the only thing i’ll stream on my twitch page is me playing something like PVE or whatever…. Doing Youtube clips is far better for Giant World PvP because you can post actual fights, and its more entertaining and a lot less boring in the end.

B. Streaming works far better for SPvP, or Warzone type games (SWTOR) anything were the action is instant and constant and you can keep it up.

That’s my opinion on why you don’t see a whole lot of solo streams going on in WvW or ESO’s PvP.

Ignore Casey, I blocked him in game a while back. Last time I checked, he does play warrior and ran all the way around the map with s/x gs in a 1v1 server while he was dueling me.

Not only that, he also trash talks… a lot. So, I wouldn’t worry about him jroh, and whoever else he’s insulted/annoyed.

That’s actually why I dont watch GW2 streams. I enjoy roaming myself.. I find theres something quite interesting about constantly using the map and chatting with the other 5-6 home border roamers GH has to work out where exactly all the enermies are and track them down and whatnot… But as far as watching someone else doing that goes? Watching someone scout and defend a BL is boring as hell, the only fun part are the fights and whilst they might come thick and fast, usually they dont.

It’s pretty rude to come here and start saying the people who consistantly contribute to this community are terrible players, escpecially when some of them don’t even claim to be among the best. If you think you’re better and could give people better advice then by all means do it and show us all how it’s done, but if not then just leave. Also this thread isnt about whos the best ranger, its about whos the most influential which really isnt the same thing at all.

Terravos, JCBroe, Faux, Prysin to name a few are all big contributors to the community. As for who is most influential on me personally….none, as I do my own thing but those are opinions and posters I respect and read what they have to contribute.

Tanbin inspired me to play ranger because he beat me on my d/d ele back in the day around the beginning of the game in WvW with power traps and I loved the playstyle so much I decided to roll one up and I really haven’t looked back. Since then we’ve become good friends testing out builds from time to time. Another few good rangers I’ve met who have had a strong influence on me are Eurantien/Folly/Sol from PvP and got me to start playing sPvP on my ranger.

I can only make the statement that it’s meta based on watching the ESL and Mistpedia NA weekly tournaments, and every single week I actually catalog whether teams are even running ranger, which teams, and what builds.

It’s hard to get a grasp on it with such few players playing ranger right now though, and such a limited amount actually playing on stream. I only call the build Meta because it’s the only build that has been visible during these tournaments lately, and I personally can only give so much insight.

Like, I know that you queue into TPvP (or is it just solo?) and I’m sure there are other players on the forum that stay much more silent that queue into a pretty high tier as well, or against the “top” teams, but as far as that goes, there are not enough high ranked PvP players sharing information like this with the forum.

Like I’ve said though, I can only organize information and promote discussions lol. And currently, on the only viewable outlet available to the general public for PvP, spirits are still being run as the meta build. Eurantien is actually the only person who doesn’t run spirits and sticks to his guns during the NA tournaments and doesn’t change how he plays (moved back to NA, played with Blacklisted).

And that very same player fails to grasp the basic understanding of maintaining maximum damage. Something i spent 2 long posts explaining and he still do not get the simple fact that when your maximum potential goes down your average must go up to compensate. He doesn’t get it. He doesn’t fathom that this applies to his belowed Ele too…. In short – while i respect his knowledge and experience with dungeons immensely i question his mathematical abilities and his ability to adapt to the current meta.

Honestly, this game needs far more Ranger mentors than ever before. Rangers can do a lot more than most believe.

I mean, granted that I’m a WvW casual compared to some people, especially when it comes to roaming, but if I was running a survivable condi build, I would take a page out of Gladomers book (who I’ve hyped up a few times in this thread) and run full dire with x/x/6/6/x with Empathic Bond and SotF and Muddy Terrain, Lightning Reflexes, and Signet of Renewal. Personally I’d go with Traveler runes too, and run food if I was hardcore into running, like Veggie Pizza to counter lemongrass.

But that’s just about the heaviest condi survival and overall survival build I can think of. Particularly speccing into Nature Magic and Wilderness Survival is a combination of our highest survival based trait lines. BM gives healing power, but outside of that, doesn’t help with Survival much. I’d personally prefer the Vitality and Boon duration, and make up for any healing power I don’t have if I wanted some purely through gearing.

That’s just my playstyle though. BM is a very strong traitline if you like playing pets, so it all depends on how you want to spec.

BUT, all of the SOAC podcasts, for the most part, average around 500 views on youtube, which is really only surpassed by people like MattVisual and WoodenPotatoes, aka, people that already had a good youtube following to begin with.

I listen to the podcast whenever they are available on iTunes, because it’s much easier to do so when commuting. Keep up the great job JCBroe and Durzzla
