Movement Speeds
A related problem is the inability to occasionally drop aggro. Sometimes, I’m in a place where I cannot be hit, I am out of line of sight, but I cannot drop aggro. I think this affects all classes.
Regarding the pet slowing you down while running, try switching to “avoid combat” and see if that helps.
All races move at the same speed by default, it’s just the size of the race and animation that make some races seem like faster than others.

I think OP is referring to pets aggroing mobs which takes you to normal run speed. I’m sure you’ve all noticed that outside of combat you run faster. That’s ANET’s gift to us: you get free run speed when you’re outside of combat.

sometimes hitting escape a couple of times helps..
and if your mentioning things that seem abit off how about the physically impossible mechanic of arrows doing more damage the further they go… that just does not make sense… well it is a game but still
Ridiculous physics and biology are part of the game. Just look at the charr choppers. But going with this particular example…
Realistic speeds for the animals that do exist would just not be fun at all. Even under +33% speed if you were an Olympic sprinter (<10 meters per second raised to about 13m/s by swiftness), you would easily be caught by all the cats (24 m/s), dogs (15m/s) and bears (15 m/s) (not that they chase humans). Ditto if moas could run like ostriches (20 m/s). You would never, ever be able to out swim any of the fish or bears, and the jellyfish would never reach the enemy before the battle was over.
However, assuming centaurs run at horse speeds (about 12m/s), the swiftness catch phrase “I could outrun a centaur” would be accurate, at least if you were starting as fast as an Olympic sprinter.
You don’t get in combat when your pet is hit. Likely what is happening is you don’t have your pet on passive and your pet attacks the mob that hit it which puts you in combat.
