My 2 Cents on Rangers
I love my ranger too
I do a tanky/healing power heavy greatsword/longbow with dual wolves and I do great.
So, after all the hubub caused by the patch I wanted to post something happy about being a ranger.
After looking at the patch notes I got saddened (o more warrior buffs) and I quickly logged off. I was even not considering playing this weekend’s events. As today came by I thought to myself “You know what? I’m going to go do spvp, and I’m going to tear kitten up.”
So I did. I swapped to my boon duration/tank/BM (0/0/20/25/25) melee ranger build (Greatsword/Sword-Warhorn) and proceded to get top kills, point captured, and glory in the next 9 matches. I 1v1’d anyone, and 1v2’d some classes. Then another ranger ended up on my team, the two of us could 2v3, and could (if only just barely survive) 2v4’s.
I know there are some issues with ranger, but we’re not totally broken!
As far as people saying that sword cant be used pish posh! It’s actually my favorite auto attack on the ranger (Of course the timing can be hard, but once you get good at it you can actually use the leaps to juke your foe)
We are going to get some changes (mind you I’m not expecting them to be very soon). But holy cow, I had no idea that there are only two people doing balance changes! I mean, wow, that is a ton of work they have on their plate. You can be absolutely positive they are working hard on the game, even if at times it doesn’t seems as such.

sword auto attack is great against thieves. Stealth doesnt save them because the rooting tracks them down rofl

Mind if I ask what traits you are using?
I dig my ranger.
I didn’t start reading these forums until I had gotten comfortable with how I play my ranger. I didn’t realize I was broken until I came here I use short and long bows. I use two spiders for pets.
I love the bows for moving myself and targets around. Plus bows feel right for a ranger. I tried all the other weapons but I prefer the ranged attack style. Which leads to my choice of pets. Spiders help a lot with movement control. Additionally they poison. More conditions are a good thing. My only beef with the spiders is the poison is AoE and when PvE it can pull in non-aggro targets if I’m not careful.
I use Sharpening Stone, Flame trap, and whatever the poison trap is. The exotic I use is the Rampage as one or whatever it’s called.
The big problem I have with my ranger? I have 70+ unspent skill points. I have no idea what to do with them.

hes most likely specced into regen traits / protection traits/ and maybe the shout protect me. something like that.
Great to see more positive post like this. I am right there with you, my Ranger has never felt near as kitten as 90% of the post make them sound. I have played spvp / tpvp since release and all the changes made that people are raging about have not altered how successful I have been in PVP. There are a few issues and bugs but they do not keep me from enjoying my time spent on my ranger at all.
