This won’t be a very long read, nor very detailed—it’s simply what I think the solution to the problem should be.

As a ranger, we aren’t labeled as beastmasters. Rangers are men who fight in groups, usually in the woods. Masters of survival, strategy, and ambush. Nowhere in any description of ranger is there a “master of beasts”.

The Ranger that was used as a base for all others, the one from Dungeon and Dragons, is based off Aragorn from LoTR. Aragorn has no crazy awesome bear to fight alongside him. He has himself, and his friends.

The Pet is broken right now. It’s been broken for a long time. They die almost instantaneously in any sort of dungeon environment, and they don’t fare well much better in PvP.

ONE thing I have noticed is that in my Beastmaster build, my pet is solid. He has great survivability as well as damage and balances me out well. I quite enjoy my BeastMaster build, actually. With the new tracking fix Beastmaster was working perfectly. However, in all other builds pets are demoted to decoys and “F2” slaves.

So…Is there a way we could eliminate the pet, save for a beastmaster build? I know many have called for their complete destruction, and others say they’re working just fine. But eliminating the pet completely goes away from the class they’ve built. However, relegating them to a specific tree allows them to remain relevant, even wanted in certain situations, while still allowing the player to perform and function without a broken limb.

Maybe Upping the damage by a certain % while your pet is stored (AND MAKING A PERMANENT STORE PLEASE) , or making pets an “automatic 25” trait saying “You have the beasts of Tyria at your command.”

I don’t have all the answers, but these are just my two cents.

Nope. Some of us like having pets around, even when we’re not at 30 beastmastery.

I don’t like to spend 30 points in BM just to get a pet that doesn’t die so easily in pve. The loss from not using 20-30 points elsewhere is to great for me. Specially when in dungeons no matter what, pet is really hard to keep alive even with 30 points in BM.
In pve I think most rangers that have been playing long enough are capable of keeping the pets alive and get good benefits from them.
In my current build i have 10 p in BM, for the 2 sec quickness and one of the first 6 traits. btw. imho, the best traits in BM are 1-6 anyway!

I would love to have some no-pet options, as my version of ranger also isn’t a “hunter” or “beastmaster.” And because I spent 95% of my playtime on my ranger wishing my pet was gone (not taking a huge chunk of my dps with it) because it is really, really stupid. I mean, if I was stuck in the wilds trying to survive, and ended up with a companion this unintelligent, I’d leave them in a heartbeat as so much dead weight. Just as necros can choose to go with a pet build (and don’t we see soooo many of them?), I wish rangers had that same flexibility.

I do indeed agree with you. A trait that will give the pet will reborn gw1 ranger doing that in a more logical idea.
We will have a good pet or not having him at all, that’s fair enough to give you a +1. Plus there will be more ways to play a ranger.
(Imo we will not see this at all, due to dev’s philosophy, but… Who knows!)
