My Traps virtually don’t compare remotely to this one ability.
Really? Better than Flame Trap?
At the very least, FT has half the cooldown.
At the lowest, Pain Inverter does 397 damage per attack absorbed vs 328 damage /s of the trap
Pretty close. The trap is also AoE.

My Pain inverter delves for 1097 on the confusion
and that’s not taking into account the retal

Mine is Prayer to Lyssa so consider yourself lucky.
Entangle is the best condition damage skill. it may have little hp, but it can usually get at least 5 stacks of bleed every time. once it becomes affected by malice and equipment, it will be boss.
Xsorus how do you have almost 1100 dmg confusion? Multiple stacks?
In sPvP the max malice you can get is about 1400.
That equals about 340 dmg per skill
Meanwhile burning does continuous 678 dmg/s
That’s almost twice the damage at all times.
I know that you can go much higher in PvE and WvW, but you’d need about 6400 malice to have 1100 dmg from a single stack of confusion.
I will admit the two skills work in different ways.
Pain Inverter works like daze, it prevents you from attacking, unless you want to take damage.
On the other hand, Flame Trap works more as area denial.
Oh and as a final note, I usually run with about 1300 malice and that equals:
~100 bleed per stack
~200 poison
~650 burn
SPvP doesn’t matter with it, since it’s a Racial and those aren’t in SPvP.
But if I have the full 25 stack up I have a little over 1700 Condition Damage i believe.
Pain Inverter does 3 Stacks of Confusion by the way for 5 Seconds.
Since I tend to do sort of a melee build with ranger I will pop that before doing my invade chain with sword/dagger, or if a thief pops in on me..
I’ve actually killed thieves with it, but who knows how good work.
Flame Trap is ok, But I tend to use Axe/Torch as my secondary set so I usually have burning on the target no matter what.
That makes a lot more sense…..3 stacks at 1700 malice will let you hit for…..1155 per skill. And if you’re running torch too then I guess you don’t need the trap.
Someone should fix the wiki page for Pain Inverter since it only says it does 1 stack.
In SPvP one can have 1502 condition dmg which is
Burning 704
Bleed 118
Poison 234
With 25 corruption and +100 from Svanir and Chieftain it will be 1852 CD
Burning 791
Bleed 135
Poison 269
And now trap dmg under 1502 (only condition dmg without trap proc) with longer trap conditions.
Flame trap 704*6=4224
Spike trap 118*3*10=3540
Viper’s nest 234*18=4212
With 1852
Flame trap 791*6=4746
Spike trap 135*3*10=4050
