I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Mentioned elsewhere, but separated out as the thing I’d like to see most in the near-term for Rangers, and requiring what I’d hope is relatively simple/achievable coding:
Ranger companions have had their base stats reduced slightly, but now add one-half (50%) of all of their master’s stats to their values. This means Ranger companions are now fully compatible with the benefits of ascended-tier gear and their performance will better mirror the gear, trait, and playstyle choices of their master.
Have you thought this through? What would this do to apothecary/beastmaster builds? Sucks to be someone who farmed that gear.
So clarify for me. What would be wrong with a pet that has slightly lower stats but is strong (likely considerably stronger) in Apothecary stats? And continues to improve as you farm Ascended weapons/armor (as opposed to the pet’s progression stopping dead when you hit level 80, with absolutely zero opportunity to improve)?
Right now the best rangers builds are builds where the ranger and his compagnion cope for eachother weakness. Like a tanking pet and a dps ranger, a dps pet and a support ranger… etc.
Rangers that work with their pets usually best a way to heal or do damage while their pet will tank or do another type of damage.
For apothecary stats, pets will gain toughness (alway welcome), healing power (absolutely not welcome) and condition damage (here, you absolutely don’t want your pet to compete against you for bleed stack or poison).
So this kind of change, except for power build will just work against a symbiosis between the ranger and his companion. Not to mention that this will probably throw rangers dps builds out of balance.
Give the pets “ascended hate”. :P It worked for buffs.
Anyway, at some point they will just have to buff the pets to keep up, this makes sense. They could just give all the non-ascended gear a bonus against pets to even it out.

A tanking pet would be still be a tanking pet, a dps would still be a dps pet, just better at it.
You are saying a Power build ranger only uses something like a Bear pet to off set his non-tankiness? A tanky build only uses dps pets to offset its damage? LOL.
Point being pets are not all that right now. You are trying to come at folks with the idea that the pet and its symbiotic relationship with the ranger already works well. It doesn’t. If it did, then maybe this idea would not work so well.
Pets don’t scale to the new weapons and the armor that is coming soon. Taking stats from the Ranger and adding them to the pet, not only makes sense, but even further gives diversity to builds. Stop trying to justify a broken mechanic, and maybe think of something better.
no. pets need to have separate stats.
Ew, no… I don’t want my pet to having Cleric Gear stats… And all this would do is make it so you either 1) run soldiers gear 2) run zerkers gear or 3) run Carrion gear or you’re gonna suck.
An easier solution would be to keep the pets stat-ed as they are currently but in pve/wvw increase their damage/stats etc to the increases in ascended gear. And it would fit the pattern of buff followed by nerf.
A sarcastic solution would be just to max out beastmastery on all rangers and still give the 70 point to place where ever as Ranger traits on average are not that great.
Just make pets simply upgradeable via some trainer whenevrer there will be better gear. Some kind of nice, medium-difficulty quest, preferably instanced, or….
Make a new proffesion, oriented about crafting ascended pets and minipets!
/lol

that would be the top dream patch for me.
Makes better sense to give pets an added dps/support/range/(pet dependent trait) boost per item of Ascended or Legendary that we acquire.
THE one bit of hope is that Anet follows through on the patch notes and boost Ranger Weapon Numbers, per their promise, to make up for the static pet dps numbers.

If I’ll be getting better damage for my character to compensate pet’s damage loss, I’m totally okay with it and God Bless ArenaNet
All this would achieve is letting the pets of full glass canon zerker rangers hit even harder at the expense of being even easier to kill.
Condition Rangers would get no benefit from it and it would destroy the tanky beast master builds.
Something has to be done though.
Just make pet stats scale with your average armour level/quality, but keep their stats ratio the same.
That is to say.. if you’re cheaping out of lvl 75 rare gear your pet will be scaled down compared to someone is lvl 80 ascended, but its stat distribution wont change based on what type of armour you have on.
I think giving all the melee pets a 100+ yard range increase with their basic attacks would actually go a long way in WvW 1v1’s, however it might be a little too strong in sPvP.
