Guild Wars 2

I am returning for the new expansion, plus I have the time now. I really like the longbow/great sword, but I am not seeing any builds for it. Is it viable or am I wasting my time? I want to get into some fractals and maybe some raids. I was considering just getting some berserker’s gear and going to town. Any feed back?

It’s a great set for open world, PvP/WvW and dungeons/fractals with people who don’t care about getting it done as efficiently as posssible, but for higher tier fractals and raids, people will want you to run condition ranger since it does a lot more damage, either that or healing druid. Get the berserker gear anyway since Power LB/GS is great fun to play everywhere, but think about making some condi set in the future, just wait for PoF to come out before committing to making it, since we may get different stat sets that will suit us better or soulbeast etc. IMHO.

Getting into a raid will be very hard with zerker gear and that weapon set (the power ranger set is usually LB and sword/axe, but even then nobody wants power rangers these days). You can probably pug lower tier fractals with a power ranger just fine though. In open world of course you can run with whatever you want. But yeah, the gear to get for dps rangers these days is Vipers for condi ranger (with shortbow and Axe/torch). Condi is the name of the game for many classes now. But we don’t know if PoF will introduce a better condi set yet…

LB and GS is one of the better combo’s for ranger. I ran it almost exclusively in PvP before druid came with staff.

I built a dagger/dagger + Longbow build for the demo weekend for Soulbeast and I had a blast destroying people.

You could probably build some kind of power healer with GS + Staff or even LB + Staff for fractals. Fractals aren’t nearly as stringent for healing needs VS raids.

If you’re specced even just a little in healing, you can dump most of that back into offensive stats and do very well as a “healer”.

If your hearts set on GS/LB though for fractals, as long as you can carry your weight (GS/LB is a power spec so do damage) most people won’t bother you about it.

Raid PUGlets are far less forgiving for off-meta.

Thanks for the information. I’ll work on crafting ascended and covert it as needed. I will wait till PoF to determine what gear I should use.

Viper SB+A/T is the highest dps for ranger at the moment, unless something changes that’ll probably remain the best build but gear stats may change to the new griever stats. Still not sure if SoulBeast will be worth slotting in for raids or staying with pure ranger for condi builds.
