Need a few reasons to level up my Ranger
Ill answer your questions
1) They do fine in Zergs. Dont bring a lot of utility, but bring water fields. Can also melee train with warriors/gaurds just fine. Also have access to traps if u want do that, which gives lots of fields.
2) Id say they are on par for the best roaming class. 1v1 at ease, 1v2/1v3 with proper skill usage and pratice.
3) They have amazing mobility. Sword has 2 evades, 1 movement ability. dagger has an evade and a cripple. GS has 1200 range jump, an evasion, a block, a knockback, and an interrupt. Warhorn gives swiftness. Axe can chill. Shortbow has a jump back. Longbow has a knockback. As well as the traps, and pets. The Mitigation is from evasions and a bit of armor. Theyre not as nimble as a thief, but can also take considerably more beating than a thief.
4) They really give nothing in a 15v15 GvG situation. Your SoL here. But you have ele for that.
5) Theyre not “better” than a thief, but rather the same with more options. Can also collect a billion bags with piercing arrow.
Seriously? Do it because you want to. If you don’t want to do it in the first place, then don’t. Why come here to be convinced to actually play a class?

Because I’d really like to have a lv80 Asura. I love them, I love their animations and their “voice”. Since I had already created an Asura I wanted to know by more experienced Ranger players if this would be a class which fits my expectations.

Thank you for your insightful reply.
One last question: could you tell me a thing at which Rangers excel at? Something like “no class can do this better than a Ranger”

Oh snaps. He went there…
Underwater combat XD Seriously, most of my bags during a Bay siege come from poor souls that jump into the water.

This… This is about the only thing we excel at. Sadly.

This. Evasion. Build for the pet, build for condition damage (personal preference, since condition damage isn’t balanced accounting for the pet but power is, and then the 30 in wilderness survival).
Pet will hit hard, you can evade like crazy and put out DoT on top of it. I’ve left fights with 100% health before without having to use my heal. That, or I run Troll Unguent and precast it, and watch as between my evasion and healing, they are unable to put a dent in my hp, while theirs slowly trickles away.

To bad mesmers and thieves have us beat, half of a thieves skills evade, and they have the best endurance regen + management in the game, and then a Mesmer with a sword will have perma vigor so long as they are offensive and will have a REALLY long evade on a short CD.
What rangers do best would probably be Surviving in downed state, underwater combat, ranged damage (if pet can fight too), getting kitten in PvE, and I gotta say they’re REALLY good at aggressive defense aka “you come to the place I’m guarding and you’re going to die.” Only thing that really beats them there is a turret engi, but those only work in a 1v1 against non pet users.
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna

Ranger’s are the best underdogs. No one expects to be beaten by a ranger, so no one ever runs from a ranger (aside from thieves that fail to down you with their initial burst). On the flip side, NO ONE ever brags about beating a ranger either but flame you when they lose. As the neglected half sister of the GW2 professions, its always sweeter when you get to whoop someones @ss when you’re not expected to lol.
Mao Xiong – Worst Warrior GW2
Ranger is extremely situational and not more useful than other classes in 95% of the content. OP is right in letting it languish for now.
And yes I run Spotter & Spirits + NaturesVoice/SpiritsUnbound in temple zerg… But having more than 1 person doing that for every ~12 people present is a waste.

This right here, I can’t count the number of times I am taking a nice stroll alone in WvW and some random enemy walks by. You can literally tell that they consider what profession you are and immediately say to themselves ranger… hungry and come chasing after me, only to find me dancing around their corpse a few seconds later. I have killed so many people for undermining my ability, its amazing actually. Not to mention the thieves… at some point I went to WvW and PvP just to hunt thieves down. Posing as a ranger running around unaware of the threats… because they think they can just kill anyone they want… I can easily account for over 1/3 or even half my WvW kills to them.
Last night they just kept coming one after the other, in packs of 2 or 3, sometimes the brave solo player and they all met their death multiple times. Rangers are simply the most amazing underdogs out there if played right, which is what I enjoy the most of the profession. This goes all around, PvE PvP WvW Dungeons you name it. Throw great mobility, sneaky -work around the enemy- tactics, intelligent pet use, they can be quite complex to master but worth all the effort. You’ll know what I mean if you have ever fought a ranger that simply destroyed you every single time.
