Thats not a damage build, its a bunker of sorts… without any condition removal. But i might have misspoken.
I am looking for a high end power damage build that was used in a high level game by a renown ranger. If it exists. I have tried many variations and i feel as if I am to match other classes damage potential somewhat, my sustain is severely lacking to other DPSers. If I am to match their sustain, my damage is severely lacking.
swap spirits for Signet of the Wild. Then use Jaguar with following combo; Signet – F2 – Sic’em
enjoy the upcoming 6-10k crits

I personally run this:
Greatsword is always equipped but I rotate between Sword/Axe, Sword/Dagger and Longbow in my offhand set depending on my mood/the other team. If I use longbow I swap out Pet’s Prowess for Quick Draw.
Between Nature’s Protection, Evasive Purity and Survival of the Fittest, you won’t melt if someone looks at you, condis aren’t a huge problem, you have plenty of evades and plenty of ways to control your enemy, whether through your pet’s stuns/immobs/fears or your GS 4, 5, Axe 4, Longbow 4 etc. Hell, can even take a shortbow if you want a few more evades/cripples/dazes.
It’s not pure zerk, but as far as fun power-builds go, where you also want that little bit of surv, it works wonders for me. Some people take Sigil of Intelligence on GS, I prefer taking Air + Fire, it makes up for the lack of traits in the Markmanship traitline and with 53% crit ( 73% after a weapon swap ) it procs a hell of a lot.
The burst from GS 3 -> 5 -> 2 → swap to s/a + other pet -> quickening zephyr -> 4 -> autoattack is insane as well, the stun on the GS chained into the stun from your pet, alongside the quickness boon and high-proc rate, high-damage sigils can melt most builds in seconds.

Take the pet damage trait, go with two birds. Take pirate runes. Go shortbow and Sword/Dagger. Fire + Air on each weapon. Survival of the fittest and Barkskin. Lightning reflexes and mud trap thing. Take the signet that passively cleanses conditions.
You are super tanky, have tons of sustain from fire + air and your birds will 1 shot thieves.

I’m trying this with LB/GS in a power setup and EB instead of Barkskin since I feel you can never have enough condi removal these days esp. in the case of blinds and cripple/chill in the ranger life.
Seems like a pretty good style but have you tried it with cats?
-You have swiftness already from 2 skirmish so bird swiftness is somewhat redundant.
-You’re running Muddy terrain to help cats land hits.
-Cats on stationary or crippled targets are going to wreck birds dps imo due to vuln stacks and their own bleeds.
-I’ve sat and observed the bird vs. cat rate of attack and it feels like double on the cat side to me. This is vs. stationary target.
-I know the bird has one 300’ range attack vs. the cat’s 130 but it’s still just one attack and then they don’t have one in place of swiftness buff.
Birds are better vs thieves and mesmers because you have a limited time frame for your pet to damage them and they do 2 attacks at once. However, they lose damage because of that stupid swiftness buff cast time. Cats are better vs warriors, guardians and other classes with higher defense and no stealth.
I have, however, started using utility pets with a lot of HP more, like spiders and pigs. Pigs are awesome!!

I love the idea of extra stealth ranger with trusty uber pig Siamoth and joke about it in mists sometimes as besides Rangering my other interests include Trolling and long walks on the beach but trying to pick up a feather mid fight and use it is just going to get me killed in 90% of PVP situations. T_T
Birds are pretty dysfunctional. I advise against them.
U could always makes other dissapear first
I barely play ranger anymore but I did get on it yesterday for some quick fun.

This build was just for my personal lolz but I really enjoyed it and cant wait to get home and try it some more.
Rampage as One – fury
Signet of the Wild – 25% more damage for 8 sec and 3 stacks of might
F2 – Riverdrake has a nasty burst if you can land it
Path of Scars – It pull the enemy toward you and does massive damage
Weapon Swap – 3 stacks of might
Hilt Bash – 150% more damage on next attack
Signet of the hunt – 150% more damage to next attack and 3 stacks of might
Maul
Sometimes people are already dead and your maul hits mothing but I did see and 11k last night after playing just a little bit without the might or bloodlust stacks.
I also just thought of using River Drake now because I think it could land it burst as you have the enmy stunned from path of scars and hilt bash??
Optimal probably not. Fun? Oh YES!!

@Eurantien: Do you mind linking some videos? What kind of team composition do you run it? What maps?

This build looks interesting to me
I like greatsword and runes of speed because I love the mobility!
2 invuln
2 immo pets
lose 6 condi every ten sec
@Eurantien: Do you mind linking some videos? What kind of team composition do you run it? What maps?
I am sorry but I do not have any videos. I usually play on a laptop around 15-30 FPS and running other programs doesn’t really work out too well. If anyone knows a good free program I could use I might be able to make some videos on a friends computer.
My team atm is: Support Guard, a/sh lb war, condi engi, s/d thief, and then my ranger build. I’ve been running this build on every map but it is most effective on Foefire and Kyhlo is a close second.
Well, no videos from my perspective.

Start at minute 10. This was the first time I really got my team to give me a shot at playing power ranger. They thought it was decent enough to give me the go ahead to main the build and give condi ranger a break for a bit. Because of that, I have only improved since this video a month ago. You will notice some changes to the comp that we’ve recently done (in terms of builds) and that I am running a slight variation on my power build now than I was then.
Lol, gross, I just watched it and often times you can see me just going through my golem rotations…. don’t do that. I’m so embarrassed haha. For it to be really viable you have to react to what your opponent does unlike any other build imo (for small fights where you don’t have range/positioning).
Am I good?… I’m good.

Nice positioning. U made it work with so few defensive tools and condition removals
I think you have enough defensive tools as is. With SoR you have your condi clear/team support skill. You have your dodges, you have your CC, your stealth, and LR. I now use
“Protect Me” which is another defensive utility that allows me to survive very well. With the amount of CC and repositioning available it is pretty easy to stay alive, if you get hit then you have any of your utilities to save you. You also have teammates to help you out as well.
Am I good?… I’m good.
I might have expressed myself poorly. You have far less defensive tools compared to other glass builds.
What are your thoughts of going 30 into WS and 10 into Skirm instead of vice versa? I personally feel that the skirmishing line is horrible trait wise, although not as much as the travesty of our MM minor traits…
I find that I really appreciate moment of clarity and the fury on weapon swap. In then end, skirmishing does more damage and so does moment of clarity. Since the build is heavily reliant on good positioning (when someone gets close you need to get away in order to do damage to something and/or die). Because of this I find it is better to do damage than to survive. That being said, I find I can survive just as well with the build I use as a build using 30 in WS.
The reason for this is because the build is glass and often times the RNG from empathic bond won’t help much because once you get 1 condi on you (immob, fear, chill) you will get a lot more on you, so SoR is the way to go. EB might not even proc, making it useless, or it might proc but not cleanse what you need/want. By the same logic, being glass, you will die so fast it won’t proc more than once unless you’re in a 1 v 1 (but in PvP that isn’t really your role). So then the other options are bark skin and you get protection on dodge roll. Neither of these will do much, you don’t have the evades of s/d so once you get locked down you will eat A LOT OF STUFF so these traits don’t matter, you will die either way.
Therefore, the only way to not eat a lot of stuff is through positioning and doing what you need to do to get away before things get on you. Which means, all you are doing by traits into WS is getting toughness and condition damage which you aren’t using on a zerker build, when you could have fury on wep swap, moment of clarity, and an extra 200 precision and ferocity.
That’s my take on it. People seem to like putting 30 into NM over skirmishing, but I couldn’t give up swiftness on wep swap and moment of clarity just for that. Not to mention, the quickdraw cd reduction is very nice.
In the end, I prefer to do more damage because I believe I will survive the same amount with 30 in skirmishing as a build that has 30 in WS or 30 in NM because of the weapon set that I am using. If I was using s/d it might be a different story.
Edit: If you’re interested here is the build i’ve been running recently from the perspective of an enemy thief:
Am I good?… I’m good.
