Hi! my main is a ranger, and i just got all crafting mats to make ascended armor.
But i am unsure which set to get. I want this set to be prepared for lvl 50 fractals when i get there (are at 39 atm). I run with exotic berserker gear right now, but i also use longbow / greatsword which i read everywhere is crap. I have read that sword/warhorn or axe offhand is the best, but can / should i survive in melee range in high level fractals with berserker gear? or what gear do you recommend for fractals?

If I were you I would wait, the ranger class has just been selected for a major overhaul and builds could change drastically in the next month or two.

Just use berserker gear and range encounters you feel are too difficult to melee. You won’t find any groups capable of meleeing fights like mossman, ice elemental and arch diviner in the average PUG/guild. GS is fine if you feel sword is too difficult to use, the damage will be quite far behind sword however. You do need the GS for any max melee range fights instead of sword. Though, i do recommend practicing with sword as much as you can, you may end up liking it.

I’d wait. I’m personally waiting on all forms of ascended/legendary/major gear choices until after the upcoming patch. With the additional major nerf to crit damage via ferocity (hopefully you’ve seen the math), all crit builds might lose their viability in general.

Yeah, good idea to wait a while. Just keep crafting your ascended mats. I am really worried about what will happen to all the celestial and zerker stuff I made…
