Hello, been playing this game for like a month now and finally hit 80 on my first character for like a week ago but now I’m struggling with the decision of a fun build for WvW zergs.

I really like LB for WvW but have no idea which second weapon to use. Running with Sword/Horn now just for the Call of the Wild.

My build right now:

Don’t really want to rely so much on my pets, atleast not for now.
Could also use some guidance with which stats and runes to aim for as I have no idea.

Post what you think, thanks in advance!

I wouldn’t use the spirit simply because the longbow often attacks so slowly that the proc isn’t going to do much. +10% damage 35% of the time is only +3.5% damage overall. It’s quite lackluster in my opinion.

One of the beautiful things about longbow is that barrage allows you to damage and control an area. Combine this with Muddy Terrain and you can control the front of an enemy force and the middle/back with just 2 skills. Even better for your current build is the fact that with that 20% faster Survival skill recharge Muddy Terrain has a 20 second duration and a 24 second cooldown, so it’ll only not be there for 4 seconds at any time that you want it. That’s outstanding up-time.

If you’re not wanting to rely on much on the pet, rage as one is largely wasted. A pet not hitting anything is a pet not making using of the might from your hits and not giving you might via hitting things.

Devourer is definitely a good safe choice for a pet that is alive and is the higher damage of the two ranged pets, however, a spider is a menace to enemy zergs with its autocast AOE poison field and it’s immobilize. I suggest playing around with both types of ranged pets to see what you like.

The Red Moa is another nice pet if you are wanting to snipe from 1,500 with the longbow as it is still useful standing next to you as it gives you and nearby allies some Fury. This works well with having fury from the horn as well. It also has an autocast AOE heal that can be beneficial, though sometimes hard to benefit from depending on how you play and how the fight is progressing. Jungle Stalker can also be used like this but for some Might and it has no heal.

The wolf is nice for defense as you can swap to it for a knockdown, cripple, and fear on someone who closes on you.

I don’t see any real issues with your build, so I think you just need to continue to practice with it, tweaking if you need to to better fit yourself.

Just put the spirit there as I had no idea which spell to use but will try with muddy terrain.
Will try some ranged pets and see how it feels.

Any tips on which stats I should go for on the gear? As I have no clue, what to buy for my 263k of karma.

Thanks!

Knights / Soldiers are always safe bets when it comes to a power build for a ranger.

There are other options too like Berserker / Rampager, but you can be quite glassy. It helps to not go 100% with those sets and work in some Cavalier (toughness), Valkyrie (vitality), or even Knights / Soldiers.

As a point of reference, a guildie of mine never likes to go below 1,700 toughness. He feels he’s simply “Thief bait” if he has less than that.

Try gw2buildcraft.com

Mix and match there and see what you can get that you like.
