Guild Wars 2

I started a Ranger and just got it to 11 recently, and am still totally confused on builds. I will be about 90% PvE by myself mostly, sometimes in a group but rarely until 80. I’m sure by then I’ll have it down, but right now I need a good PvE build. If anyone could suggest one or at least point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. I’m using a Longbow/GS combo throwing in Shortbow sometimes here and there if it makes a difference.

Hmm, I think I would go Axe/Horn Shortbow and put points into Beast Mastery and Wilderness Survival. Mostly staying at range pulling multiple mobs while your pet tanks them. I would personally go for a drake since they can do more aoe dps while tanking great. As you get higher level you will get stronger and probably find what you are looking for in terms of a build. But if I were releveling a ranger that is what I would do.

Putting 10 into BM and getting Masters Bond is a must, and do yourself a favor and get sword/torch and lay waste to enemies, after BM just dump points into power or condition based lines.

also get a jaguar pet from asura starter jungle, best pve pet damage wise with masters bond you can get, it will rip vets to shreds.

Pet scaling is brokenly overpowered at lower levels because pets receive static increases from BM rather than percentile increases. Basically every point into BeastMastery is +10 to all of your pets stats, so at level 20, with 10 in BM you basically have a pet that has about +100 to all stats (so even a dps pet will tank well and solo veterans for you). Keep loading up BM and whatever tree you like as you level, and your pet will carry your puny ranger up until level 60 or so (this is when gear scaling finally starts to catch up to beastmastery).

weapon choice really doesnt matter at all unless you are trying to tag monsters for event credit / loot. In that case, Greatsword is probably the best bet, and traps can help also. if you are interested in using a bow, take Marksmanship for 20 points so you can pick up Piercing Arrows.

once you start encountering undead (the risen storyline begins about level 40, they are regular creatures in the world after level 60), make sure you equip a way to deal with conditions (signet of renewal or healing spring or 30 points into wilderness survival).

i searched asura jungles couldn’t find jaguar..is there a specific location? I know its supposed to be called juvenile jaguar but all i saw were hostile regular ones..also ive put some points into BM since then and in to marksmanship and im doing pretty well with shortbow/sword/horn combo may try the torch if it works better though.
