Thank you for taking a profession that was already behind other professions on damage and utility and making it even worse! My Ranger does half the damage she did before, that is not an exaggeration!

Before patch (dvinity runes yes) I was peaking at 19k to 20k with LongBow number 2 skill. Now I barely reach 10k at the very most!!! My auto attacks would be 3-5k and are now critting for 2k or less.

The traits we got are ALL useless! I was looking forward to trying “read the wind” thinking it’d increase the fire rate of the Longbow (something that is drastically needed) but no, it is just a waste.

You’ve taken a game conept where people were meant to be able to take ANY proffesion with ANY setup and be able to play how they like doing reasonably decent damage and survival, and crushed that concept into the ground thus forcing players to have a specific “cookie cutter” setup in order to achieve some viable damage. You are forcing players to play the way they don’t want to.

I’m a Ranger, I want to use bows. I don’t want to join a dungeon and stack on walls being forced to use a greatsword and axe/horn combo otherwise I’ll get kicked from the group!

Pets….what a joke they are! You press F2 and wait 10seconds for the pet to MAYBE cast it’s ability, by which point the pet is either dead, you’ve had to move away from it or the ability simply isn’t needed anymore. Then, you send a pet in to attack, it takes one maybe two bites at the boss and is then limping back to you on 1hp and is useless. Even if you manage to heal the pet in combat, the pet will not fight again until you come out of combat. There are SO many problems with pets that need to be addressed. Starting with the very simple option to DISMISS the pet permanently.

In short, Rangers are farther behind every other profession out there now because of this unwanted patch.

You spent more time developing the unimportant things like dyes, armor, wardrobe etc and getting that right, than developing the important things like world event bosses, skills, proper balance on pve etc.

I find myself doubting that your damage has gone from 20k to “at most” 10k.

Rangers werent the only class to take a DPS nerf on power builds, and since ranger power builds are generally weaker than their mesmer/warrior/theif counterparts, this nerf has probably been less damaging to our class than others.

They have gone a long way to fixing pets this patch. Should check that out before complaining about it for the sake of it.

Building off your post, about 30% of our damage also comes from the pet! who has no crit damage pre training! and with a trait receives a set amount, so if anything we were hit significantly less than the other profs were.

Other classes got it worst than us from this patch. F2’s are more responsive now (atleast for drakes and jungle stalkers), so dunno what you’re talking about.

You’re free to play however you want but don’t force the way you want to play onto other people. Try to group yourself with players who have the same mind set. Ie. if you don’t want to stack and melee and use zerker gear, then don’t join guilds or groups that do zerker speed runs or find more friends to play with.

Your statement is true.

I went from 259% crit damage (109% pre-patch) to 229% crit damage, about a 12% overall drop in crit damage, and about a 8-9% overall drop in my (Ranger) damage. Your mileage will vary depending on what other damage multipliers you use, but generally, it wasn’t as bad as people said it was. I still do 2500-3500 damage to glass builds, but I did notice a drop against other builds.

Since the pet had no crit damage to nerf, and because the Critical damage trait still gives pet 30% bonus crit damage. This mean that our Maximum Potential DPS (meaning you have to take advantage of both Ranger and Pet) was barely scratched compared to other professions.

If anything, Our bleed stacking builds with Rabid and Rampager gear took a hit, because of the on-crit sigil changes. My ability to stack bleeds through critical hits is literally half as effective as it was before…But, because of the buff to undead runes, I have like 2300+ condition damage now, even more If I take Dire gear instead of Rabid. Stacked with the new Poison trait (and every other change) and the bug fixes to our traps, all of our condition builds are alot stronger than they were pre-patch.

Dear Admins,

I am quite disappointed with the changes that have been made to the ranger class. Damage has been nerfed- my ranger didn’t do that much damage before the patch to begin with but my fiance who also plays a ranger was getting numbers much, much higher than I was, now he is getting about the same numbers I was getting and my auto attack is around 200-400. That is disgusting that my hits are so low. I have specced into power and precision and do such kitten damage. Guild Wars was supposed to be a game where you could choose any profession and play any role. I really think that your team has lost sight of this original goal and has greatly deviated from that. Certain professions are expected to play certain roles and you pretty much have to look up “cookie cutter” builds to be just like everyone else and fulfill the status quo. Please, bring back the ability to choose different roles for professions and be able to mix it up.
Also, I’m pretty sure that the skirmishing trait “Moment of Clarity” is bugged. Most of the time when I interrupt targets it doesn’t even come up and when it does it either give no increase or very little increase in damage of the next hit.

Or just be smart and switch to one of the many recently released or upcoming better MMO’s. That’s what I’m doing at least. 1,5 years of hilarious/pathetic balancing and constant Ranger abuse has gotten old.

That is exactly what this thread is about, being forced to re-roll or play a spec/method that we do not want to because the character profession is so badly nerfed!

And yes F2 is still very slow. I use a cat for might, and it takes 5-7seconds to cast. Also, if you happen to accidently hit F2 twice, it cancels it and triggers the cooldown. If the pet is interrupted, it triggers the cooldown. Pets overall need a huge improvement, this is something I felt before the patch and still feel. It’s just compounded with the new problems we now face of lack of damage.

I have 111% critical damage bonus before the stat changes, and would average around 17-18k (number 2 longbow) sometimes reaching 19-20k with might stacks or if teh target was vulnerable enough. But I have played my Ranger in various fights, dungeons and PvE testing it and the damage really is 40-50% less. I think my absolute highest so far has been 12k.

The whole point of this thread is to make A-net realise that Rangers were in need of attention/improvements BEFORE the patch was even made and now that the patch is released, Rangers are in even greater need of some tlc.

Longbow:

  • Fire rate needs to be increased by at least double.
  • The range bonus should be removed so we have higher damage regardless of position, thus allowing Ranger’s to happily “stack” in dungeons and not get kicked out because we like to play the game “properly” (not stack).

Greatsword:

  • Overall damage needs an increase.

Pets:

  • We should be able to dismiss pets permanently so they do not appear in combat at all! Currently we can only switch to “avoid combat” and “stow the pet” but when we enter combat or take damage, the pet is summoned even if it is not used.
  • Pets are far too fragile and need to be tougher! Man-up kitty! >^.^<
  • Pet ‘special’ F2 abilities should be instant not delayed. If they are interrupted or cancelled, a shortened cooldown should be triggered, roughly 5 seconds, not the full cooldown. A good example of this is the bear’s “shake it off” ability. This is something that you need immediately with NO delay at all because by the time you request it and the pet grants it, it is no longer required and wasted.
  • Once a pet is damaged or hurt, it should retreat from combat as it already does. However, once the pet has regained sufficient health, it should re-engage the target and begin to fight again. You can set the health recover threashold at 50%. Currently, if a pet “dies” it returns to you and limps around until you leave combat or swap it out. Even if you manage to fully heal the pet, it will NOT fight until you leave combat.
  • Reduced cooldown on pet swapping.
  • Pet names should be remembered, not forgotten everytime you swap a pet from the list. I also feel we should be able to gain ALL the pets available, not just veterans from the original game.

can confirm some of these nerfs oh well…doesnt hurt me much tho I dont play the game very much and I dont contribute to there gem store so no biggee….disappointed overall in this game which had so much potential..
want more confirmation that its over??

Stop being an entitled player. If you want those Hall of Monmument pets, go play GW1 and gather points. Those pets are just skins and provide no game play advantages, their abilities are still available in game. It’s also been stated numerous times that pet names can’t be saved because of a design issue. If you want your pet to not die, take care of it. If the player is good, it will not be dying left and right in dungeon content. Zerg content (like living story) is a different story, and a bit more out of your control.

The cast time for Mighty Roar is 3s, and while your claims of F2s failing when spamming are not unbelievable, you don’t have much credibility when you claim 40-50% damage nerf or 5-7 cast times. Those cast times only happen when your pet is CC’d when you press F2.

Most of your suggestions are overpowered without any thought of balance behind them.

Rangers do need some love in high end PvE, but threads like this are very misguided and give a false representation behind the class in general. Their damage only got nerfed by the ferocity changes, which affected everyone the same way.

Okay, to all rangers complaining here: maybe, JUST MAYBE you should a) stop mashing. b) stop trying to make your pets into uninterruptible champs with defiance while you do nothing but pew pew without risk. If you’re having an issue with PvE… overcome it. It’s PvE! The AI’s not going to get any smarter unless dev tweaked it. If you’re having problems with WvW or PvP, have a look around the ranger subforum. There are positive rangers that made new combos and builds, came up with strategies, and are making great use of the changes post-patch.

I’m starting to think the majority of satisfied, can-do rangers are out there improving silently, not whaling or the forums about how “this is an outrage!” and “I bought gems for this!” every time their personal games don’t improve. The dev initiative thread ArenaNet provided for rangers became a joke, and not from anything ArenaNet did. I saw so many requests for things that were either already in the game or basically magic win buttons.

What prevents OP from grabbing a greatsword and stacking up with the other professions in a dungeon? Not one thing but their preference to sit back and pew pew. And if you truly took a hit to your DPS what other things can you do now a lot better than before the patch? Is risk-free long-range spike and sustain really all you want? Do you not want to learn how to buff your group and run support besides just spirits and spotter? I know rangers that, to this day, don’t know what every utility or trait they have does, but they pass dungeon content just fine. They survive, gank and dps in WvW just fine.

The funny part is that, after the new PvP and WvW meta sets in, rangers may be in a much better spot. But just because someone has a weapon, that doesn’t mean they know how to use it. So why don’t you quit throwing your guns at things to kill them and learn how to fight before you say “ugh this class sucks!” Truth be told, you can pull off some pretty sweet strategies with this class, so why not watch top player videos, look for good builds, experiment and make ranger into the fierce class it really is. All the tools are there for you and they’ve been there for a while now.

Also: OP wants even more armor on animals? They have armor, condition mitigation and health that’s higher than some classes right now. I’m not even joking. And you want it to retreat on it’s own without calling it back to get out of danger? Roll an elementalist, an engineer, a necromancer and even a thief and see how difficult they are. See what little protection they have from being downed, learn what kind of actions per minute they have to put in to win and then come back to ranger and tell me if it’s horrible like you claim it is. The suggestions you gave really elucidate a lack of understanding with your own class.

Yeah, I have no idea what OP is speaking of. My BM Ranger with Poison Master is working quite effectively in WvW at the moment.

Needless to say, power rangers have always been uninspired and underpowered. Even as a Ranger, I know that LB + Bear = free kill.

My pet now, as before, almost never goes the right way, takes FAR longer than the tooltip says for “casting time” and during a zerg, fuggetabouddit!

You are more than right. Unless we spec into poison, we are hosed more than any other time in our “history”.

Take out the name “Ranger”, we’ve just become cheap and ineffective bandits who can only use poison. Dang it, this is painful, I can’t afford other games being under the poverty line by quite a bit.

My Christmas gift (this game) from the only person who cares about me in the world, has been torn to pieces while others are given a pass and more. Playing my way would be how I finally had my skills after over a year of no help from any video, build or person… My way finally worked, now it is gone.

Spot on, my man, spot on. Focusing on others while a whole profession and the state of the game is ignored by megamerges.

Rangers are not the only ones in pain – if there was just a single thread for “breaks” that happen over and over that are still happening, I know that it would be apparent that WvW and many profession skills are still being ignored for whatever someone believes brings people into the gem store.

Every single profession has a broken “something” that has been happening since day 1.

Please don’t call any profession OP unless it’s permastealthed thieves, I can kill some of every other kind of profession, but I’ve only ever, since pre-release, killed a single thief to date and I am sure he wasn’t a decent one…

Fixes are needed for many different actions that the game has intended to work but have glitched or been broken from inception.

F2 pets are broken. The tooltip is wrong and when however much of your damage doesn’t happen… that’s broken.

Yeah. F2’s have had a massive increase in responsiveness for one. My wolf actually used fear in WvW in about a second after me hitting it. Prior to the patch it was like 3 seconds.

Although, we got undeniably better for the mere fact that lightning reflexes now breaks immobilize and removes a condition. That’s huge.
