Never underestimate a ranger, it is capable of doing great damage and great manouvers.
I wanted to to a video with some random pvp footage before the patch.

I’ll start on a positive note:
gj on winning (or at least surviving) the fights!

But here’s the criticism:
First fight: You’re standing off point the entire time…
Also, why are you using a bear in sPvP? There are many better options
Second fight: You spend almost the entire fight off point, so even though you won the 1v1, you lost control of the point and don’t even get it back when the necro is downed.
…then you went in for a stomp (still off point) when the necro has less than 5% hp left. If an enemy is down like that and far from help, you’ll help your team more by bleeding them out. I.e. keep them at low hp, but don’t finish them. This takes them out of the fight for longer.
Third fight: Much better…but you could have stayed on the point while finishing him. =P
Fourth fight:You just let your ally get stomped! If you would have saved your Point Blank Shot, you probably could have saved them.
…and then you stayed off point the rest of the time while fighting the thief. The whole time you were dancing with him, red team was racking up points. You also went for a stomp on the last enemy when they were practically dead anyways. If they’re low health, just dps them or let the dots/pet finish them off while you move to your next objective.
You did a great job surviving all the enemies, but you didn’t do much to help your team win the game.
Fifth fight: Good job rezzing your ally.

P.s. That sword looks pretty awesome on a Norn…I may consider buying that skin now, lol.

It’s Okay. Would be nice to see some deaths too and not just the usual win-only self-promoting style. Also, long fights are interesting too because those are the most rewarding and educative.

A few tips:
-When using a devourer or any ranged pet that is mostly stationary when fighting an enemy, you can place yourself so that the devourer is between you and the enemy. This works exceptionally well in melee because control (stun, knockback, etc) skills will go on the devourer instead of you. See it as a “catch me if you can” game where the pet is the table and you try to keep your opponent on the other side. Works great for non-aoe ranged enemies too.

-Never use point-blank shot just because you can. Always use it to either interrupt a skill (like healing or a long cast skill) or to gain distance. Using it as the first shot in a fight is stupid because it will put your enemy at such a long range that you have to run extra distance to get in range.

-Never use rapid fire if your opponent is at ranges where (s)he can’t harm you, or when the opponent is at more than 900 range. Rapid fire has higher damage and better use than Long Range Shot only when it’s used in close range. It is also a psychological skill in the sense that your enemy closes the gap and then realises that (s)he is taking huge damage.

-To follow up the devourer thing, don’t use the greatsword’s swoop if your pet is between you and your enemy because you can just simply run there without taking much damage, while your enemy will most likely use other skills than the basic-attack.

EDIT: Saw Dahkeus’ post and thought, ahh kitten …. But then realised that he has good advice on how to improve your sPvP performance while I give you advice on how improve your fighting performance

The gw2 build editor is currenylu down so i left a picture of my traits.
I`m using LB/GS on both i got Sigil of air/fire, Berserk amulet and rune of the scholar
and i`m using The spider with paralyzing and the bear (for condi removal and ressing me while i`m down)

Cool cool. I’ll forward this thread home and watch later. I’m just sick of seeing condi Rangers all running the same spec using the same playstyle using the same utilities. Power Rangers are rare.

Well, I had fun watching the first 120 seconds or so, I’ll probly watch the rest at some point.

Not that I 100% agree with Prysin here, but it’s sort of like posting a video of yourself dominating the storymode in Half Life 1 at this point. These self promo videos get posted pretty often. Any one of us could post a video of us doing well with any random build. Often you can even beat a skilled opponent just because his build doesn’t match well against yours, and that’s not really your own gain.

One thing I do like seeing is the people that post, say, an hour of play and fast forward through the boring parts. But don’t edit anything otherwise.

Also to answer someone’s question, he’s clearly using the bear for condi removal since it’s his only source. Considering his traits, it’s probably the best choice.

I would only add to what Solrik said regarding swoop and rapid fire is with the upcoming changes, this advice is due a relooking.

When the new swoop comes, you’ll actually want to use it as both a gap closer and at close range for the evade it’ll provide in the attack as the circumstances warrant.

What Solrik said about Rapid Fire being best at close range is also true, but there is no shame in using it on someone fleeing on low health if you feel the burst will down them faster then LRS.

This is going to be even more true when Rapid Fire is buffed to fire off even faster then it does now. Not to mention if you have a friend in the mix giving chase, the vulnerability does help.

It just depends. It comes back up fast enough, but these kinds of split second decisions are what usually decides if you land the kill or not.

Your fights themselves were generally good and you tend to survive even your tougher ones. Well played power ranger, bonus for not being meta cheese.

You definitely made the right choice with greatsword on swap over shortbow.

The evade on swoop is only on the attack portion of the skill. It will be meaningless unless you’re like point blank and using it for DPS.

Hey, I feel I can chime in now. I’ve fought Mike In the 1v1 servers several times on my ranger and I have a few things to add.

Firstly your use of bear still baffles me, switch it to a more useful pet please. The second thing is that you rely on your bow too much, and you seem to treat each weapon as something to cycle through between bow auto attacks…you’re not bad with the bow so don’t take it the wrong way, however when someone gets in your face you tend to struggle a bit, often missing PBS or your stealth. You also start with PBS and RF a lot, and like someone said above RF is best used up close, and PBS should be saved for those moments when you need to think outside of your own situation.

You’re still pretty new to Ranger PvP though so thanks for sharing the video and keep practising! There aren’t many decent Rangers in PvP so hopefully you can join the ranks.

Thanks for the suggestions, and yeah i`m pretty new to ranger, i`m here after 7 years of playing world of warcraft, i really like the ranger class and i want to master it

1st; “Never underestimate a ranger” – They actualy “Always quickloot a ranger”
2nd; Your random pvp with …. people doesn’t prooves anything, like the last 2 years.
