…is without a doubt the most annoying part of the nerfs. At least for someone who doesn’t use shortbow.

The pet won’t take two steps away from you anymore without leashing. I can no longer sneak my pet up to open field siege (like catapults) using “Guard” to destroy them before they can take down walls, because the distance is now too far in almost every circumstance. Even if I do manage to creep close enough to get my pet to go -after- the catapult, retreating back toward the tower I’m defending even a little will result in the pet quickly returning. I can’t leave the pet on a downed enemy and fight another, knowing it will get the job done—because it won’t, if I so much as look away from it!

This leash range reduction is ridiculous. I already stopped using pets as a source of damage months ago—but I still used them in certain utility situations, which now also, have been ruined.

Can I trade my pet in for being able to use a hammer or something? Or for like… 5 gold? Not even 5 gold each, 5 gold for the whole lot of ‘em. I have quite an extensive collection—at this rate it’s a steal.

Oh wait, maybe I could trade my pets for Steal! What do you say, devs? Same button and everything.

The question I have is why Sic ’em has a range of 3000, while pets have a leash range of 2000?
Sic ’em appears to work at 3000 range, apart from the leash limitation. Ie the icon shows as being in range and there is no visual indication that the skill will fail.

Leash range was reduced because of spvp. They don’t just have any consideration how it will affect other games modes. It’s not like they couldn’t split the game modes like they did with mesmer so one has to start wondering their competence when this kind of stuff keeps happening.

All is vain.

I have to agree. This is one nerf I didn’t take much notice of when I read the patch notes(mostly due to the fact I was more concerned about SB range) but when in wvw this annoys the living kitten out of me. I loved sending in my stealthed assassin to take out. a dolyak or some siege.

Now its:

Pet is too far from target
Pet is too far from target
Pet is too far from target

Pet is…….oh wait pet is now dead because 30 points in BM is a waste and you don’t run it anymore.

Exaggerated of course but I think you get my point. In PVP its justified but it translates to a pain in the kitten in WvW.

Very annoying indeed. Can live with the lower dps, but this leash range really restricts the pet use in wvw…

Yeah, when I saw the leaked notes this nerf caught my already-crying eye. I guess Anet thinks it’s too OP for a Ranger to have a semi-covert way kill a yak or cata (but for thieves it’s just fine), or for them to be able to collect a few giant pearls and kill a couple of Krait at the same time. What very few minor advantages/niceties having a pet offers are being snuffed out by Anet.

I could have been happy playing nothing but Ranger for another year were the class being handled properly, but I’m seriously considering giving up at this point.

I agree to some point. I like the idea of leashing them but it needs to be tweaked back a little. I was doing one of the minidungeons yesterday and there was a moment that I was at 1500 and he wouldn’t aggro what I was shooting.
