[New Player] - Ranger Advice Please?
Zerk is still strong/strongest in PvE and WvW. We don’t know enough about raids to know what gear will be used in them yet. Probably zerker or zealots?
As a new player for a base ranger you will most likely want to focus on berserkers gear (power, precision and ferocity) to start. The power ranger set up is still good and readily available. Later you may want to look at a condition build for higher level fractals and the newer content. That would be vipers or sinister gear depending on what you have available on your account. It has that highest damage per second in longer fights and really only requires 2 weapons so its a pretty easy rotation to learn.
As for druid the jury still seems to be out on them. You MIGHT be able to go condition bunker with apothecary build or settlers gear OR you may go full healer with something like clerics gear. Zealots gear would be a healer/ power hybrid but its really pretty expensive as it stands right now. I wouldn’t worry about it to start. Druid seems to really be designed towards raids which haven’t been released yet.
Thank you for the responses I am happy to encourage more feedback I want to absorb as much as I Can – not only am I getting this feedback but I am also doing my own research in the background.
GW2 System
Welcome to the community, dear fellow Espy. Currently the game works around having as much DPS as you can. So by building full Berserker (Power>Precision-Ferocity) you can never go wrong.
That is the stats most of us would suggest going for. You can even play Berserker Druid that has that situational CAF (that builds… Once every 30 seconds or so?) to help your party with difficult phases but focuses solely on Personal and Team DPS. I’ll throw you a whole build if you need it.
Customization
After you get a feeling of the game as such – then you can think for yourself which role do you want to play. Healing Druid or Condition ranger are both viable options but only for some of the environments – and you need to learn why mostly by yourself.
At the end of the day – being a Healer means nothing else but more Dmg by your party (they can attack for more since they don’t have to disengage and stop dealing damage). If your party doesn’t need the healing because of skilled game-play or easy content – playing a healer is only a burden and you might become an anchor of your party.
Conclusion
You should most definitely start with playing Berserker. That is a role that will always be needed regardless of what environment are you in.
Once you see the content for yourself in 1st person and feel like you hate being a Zerk – you should try Viper (Sinister) Ranger that deals mostly condition damage.
A dedicated healer is most probably required only at high-end content (Raids, Fractals 70+), which you might not meet in several months time. And if you get there – people you’ll be playing with will ask for it and that might be the 1st time you’ll need to consider getting other stats for your gear. When that time comes – feel free to show up again.
After all, even we don’t know what becomes meta for Raids or such.
