With all the hoopla and holabaloo about new skills incoming for every profession, what skills would you like to see for the Ranger to help improve their build variety?

The skills I’d like to see are; New Skill set;
Preparations
Splinter Shot; Your next 5 attacks deal splash damage to foes near your target. Only Axes and Bows.

Mis-Fire; Your next 5 attacks miss. Your target becomes confused for 5 seconds.

Skills that help you influence what your pet’s next attack does;
Beast Mastery
Disrupting Lunge;
If your target is confused, your pet’s next attack knocks the target down.

Mauling Strike;
If target is knocked down, your pet’s next attack does 50% more damage and causes 3 stacks of bleeding.

Brutal Strike;
Your pet’s next attack deals double damage if the target is below 50% health.

A new shout;
“Don’t let’em stop you!”
Your pet takes 30% less damage and is unblockable for 6 seconds.

And a new Heal;
Companionship; You and your pet are healed. You are healed for more if your pet has more health than you. Your pet is revived if it is dead.

Stealth.

- 5 second activation
- Doesn’t drop unless…
- Lose stealth when you move
- Lose stealth when you attack
- 30 seconds until you can stealth again after it drops
- Can’t stealth within 2000 units of supply camps or towers/keeps

This is for WvW. Adds another opportunity for Ranger to contribute by scouting.

There were a skill from Warhammers’ Squig Herder class that I think would be awesome for the Ranger.

1. A version of “All by Meself”. You deal 25% more damage when you have no pets present. When pet is stowed or down.

2. A poison arrow for LB.

That’s all I really want to see.

I’d definitely like the preparations from GW1 to come back. Read the Wind very useful to have up.

When i saw this post i felt a lil tingle of Joy..these are great ideas! the smoke field is something rangers need in a big way. although id like to see it long enough to s2 through. The swap with me skill is amazing! I do think this spirit is a bit weak and needs to be relooked at though. Everything else…near flawless.

New skills should help solve some of the Rangers problems, like pet targeting, AoE damage, more support options, and better burst capabilities. For example:

“Fetch!” – Your pet gains five seconds of swiftness, and deals 1 second of immobilize on its next two attacks.

Signet of Persistence – passive: You, your pet, and your spirits, each take 15% less damage from ground target attacks. / active: Your pets next attack applies 5 seconds of torment.

Mind Over Matter – Instantly revive your pet. It becomes invulnerable for one second.

Blessed by Nature – Each nearby ally gains two random boons.

Rage Over Reason – For three seconds, you deal 50% more damage on each attack, and lose 400 toughness.

I’d love to see preps and pet skills added. Preps would work like venoms do, except I’d like to see a trait at least to make your pet gain it as well (Call it Poisonous Bite). Pet Attacks would be like in GW1 you command your pet to perform an action that ALL pets can do, IE: Pets next Attack applies Tornent and Cripple (that’s an EXAMPLE).

If they’re just adding onto our existing utility types…

Trap: Dust Trap: applies blind and deals damage, is a smoke field.
Smoke Bomb: when triggered it explodes Dazing(1s), blinding, and confusing anyone within the area.

Spirit: Edge of Extinction: has a 35% chance to apply retaliation to allies, active: apply 5 stacks of confusion to nearby enemies.

Pestilence: allies have a 35% chance to apply poison on their attacks (maybe weakness too but I feel that’d be too strong). Active: Convert X boons into conditions (long CD, maybe only once per spirit)

Signet: Poison Tip Signet: you and your pet have increased critical chance. Active: your pets (traited to both) attacks cause poison for X seconds.

Antidote Signet (trait in nature magic): your signet skills remove 2 conditions from you and your pet upon activation.

Why can wars and thieves do crazy fire/poison/bomb arrows, but we can’t? Being a ranger, we should have access to that.

I want a longbow rework that adds a skill similar to GW1 style barrage – a low cooldown cone AoE, in place of the #4 skill or maybe #3 with the effects of the current #3 skill rolled into it. Also, preparation skills good for any weapon.

‘Heightened Senses’
Reveals all enemies in an * radius on your minimap and reveals units in stealth to you and only you.

Improved traits that work, because that one stack of bleed on crit with a 60s cooldown doesn’t cut it.

I also hope for permanent camouflage. It would work great as a trait or signet that puts you in stealth if you don’t move for a certain amount of time.

Because ranger profession was just an afterthought that was put together from the scraps of marksman and warden professions that were worked on and never made it to the game.
All the fun and useful mechanics were already handed out to other professions so they slapped a buggy pet to the leftover profession and named it ranger by accident instead of beastmaster.

:P

Throw Dirt (survival) – Blinds your foe and all nearby foes for 10 seconds. 20 second cool down.

Stalk (survival) – Breaks stun. You and your pet Stalk your foe, gaining stealth for 3 seconds. For 60 seconds. Your next attack stuns your foe and your pets next attack inflicts terror (two second stun, two stacks terror for 10 seconds. 30 second recharge.)

We gain access to a main hand dagger.
Stab (chain) range 130. 1/2 stab your foe. 1/4 Stab your foe again and gain vigor for 5 seconds. 1/2 (Deals 25% more damage) Stab your foe a third time and inflict vulnerability 5% for 10 seconds. Your pet gains fury for 5 seconds.

Melandrus strike – 1/2 stab your foe and apply weakness for 10 seconds. If your foe is under the effects of a condition, this attack deals 50% more damage. (8 second cd)

Melandrus riposte – 3/4 Evade and slice your foe, blinding them (6 seconds). Your next attack inflicts bleeding (3 stacks, 8 seconds. 10 second cd)

Nightmare Spirit – Summons a nightmare spirit that grants nearby allies a chance to inflict terror 35% chance (Lasts 10 seconds, only 5 second internal cool down. Invoke Fear – Your nightmare spirit smashes the ground, fearing nearby foes for two seconds.

Elite skill – Merciless trap – Set a trap that, when triggered, knocks down nearby foes for two seconds and inflicts weakness and vulnerability (15%) for 15 seconds. Hidden effect (only active with trappers expertise enabled), your foe loses two boons. (60 second cd)

Spirits Unbound new effect – Your spirits are able to move and follow you. Damage dealt to spirits reduced by 25%.
