-Better pathing
-Better AI
-Increased stats/tough/vit etc
-Quicker response time for F2 abilities
Why do I feel as if the Ranger community is going to regret this. Pets were good already just needed minor pathing/ai fixes. An increased stat across the board will make them over the top, couple that with a few builds that 30 BM like mine does, trait felines for crit on regular hits and all of a sudden pets are wrecking players. Mark my words, it won’t be good.
They can always revert the stats. I don’t even care about those, I’m just happy to see the AI/response fixed.

You must not be a real ranger then….
This new patch will change alot about game balance. Ele/mesmer/engi/thief will be easier for us while we are being buffed a bit.
Ranger has the advantage that he isn’t too reliant on massive boons because most of our regeneration comes from other sources and our survivability comes from evades.
I think warriors got buffed the most with us. It will be interesting to try to catch a warrior with -98% immob/cripple/chill duration^^ (-33% from new trait, -25% melandru, -40% food)
I would have rather wanted some buffs for the player itself, not the pet.

A real ranger? I do extremely well. Aside from the AI/pathing and slow F2 I had zero problems with the way pets are, I run 30 BM and have no issues keeping y pet up, I’m also a soloer that facers 1v2’s+. It’s called kowing how to use your pet, when to send it in and save it for burst etc. The pet isn’t a fire and forget skill, it’s something thats constantly managed, stop accusing me of being terrible when you can’t even manage the pet or think outside the box.
Pets need this improvement for PvE, especially in dungeons. In PvP, however, this might make rangers too good, but we will see…
My concern is my pet will attempt to move behind targets in PvP on the first attack, causing an initial miss. Also, I’m concerned that pets will no longer automatically aggro thieves when they come out of stealth (retargeting a cloaking thief is the root cause). Finally, I’m worried the increase in toughness will make low toughness pets show up higher on boss aggro tables, since, many times in the past, I’ve found cats and apiders useful due to their low toughness resulting in minimal aggro. We shall see if these are truly issues when the patch drops.
“Better” means nothing, we can’t make any reasonable conjecture.
example:
“spirits will be better and viable again”
2 weeks later
“spirit health increased by 25%”
^ Spirits were promised changes. Want to hear something funny? They were never changed besides giving them an extra breath before they die of an accidental AoE or run into a trap trying to follow you. That promise was worth absolutely nothing.
I don’t think it’ll be over the top at all. Pets need to be a more significant part of Ranger DPS.
My main concern is with the melee pets’ AI change. If there were no changes made to their ability to hit moving targets I fear that their sustained DPS will drop even further since the target will have more time to start moving and thus evading melee pet damage. I’m still not entirely certain why pets can’t move and default attack at the same time when everything else in the game can.
I don’t think it will be cause for much concern. Sure, pets will live longer, but when I fight a ranger, I soft cc the pet so it won’t ever hit me and let it live in most cases. It still has no way to cleanse conditions and without it the ranger doesn’t either. If I am fighting a feline BM ranger I blow it up and then focus the ranger with conditions as he will melt rapidly without a pet (and hope he is using troll unguent because I apply infinite poison that he won’t be able to cleanse).
A ‘go here’ button and for the pets pathing to actually head straight towards to target would be all I need.
But Anet probably feels that forcing a player to tell his pet to go behind a PvE mob or out of an aoe is ‘too complicated’ just like making the individual abilities on the pets usable on demand…
kittening Anet doesn’t realize that being able to micro is far better than being forced to deal with kittenty AI.
Now if only a “stowed” pet remained stowed.
Pets AI fixes will help in PvE and sPvP. Until we are either given far more control over every action our pet takes, and given a way to slide the damage scale away from the 60:40 split we currently have to take for having a pet, they will always be a detriment to WvW.
