So, I played the Ranger since launch, and I went out of my way to get every single pet there is. I was really excited when I saw the Reef Drake in the Southsun Cove. However, this is, as far as I know, the last Pet to be added to the game. And The Lost Shores was released November 2012.

So why don’t we get new pets? In GW1, we had Phoenixes, Tigers, Lurker Crabs, Crocodiles, Rats, Lions… And sure, they’re all from Cantha and Elona, but seriously, there are so many ways those animals couold’ve found their way to Tyria.
And even if you wouldn’t want animals from Tyria in the kitten nal of the rangers, why don’t you add Rock Dogs? Nightmare Court Hounds?

And while were on the topic of pets, why don’t they grow with my ranger? In GW1, pets became bigger in size with every level, if anyone remembers the Rainbow Phoenix, that beast was huge at level 20! So what happened to that? And why not add at least one or two new skills for every pet? I mean, my Drake sure has claws as well, so why can’t he use a claw that inflicts bleeding, in case I wouldn’t want him to use Sonic Shriek any more. Just saying.
And hey, honestly, if you would put the only tameable version of, let’s just use the Nightmare Court Thorn Wolf, as an example, said Wolf at the end of the second path of the Twilight Arbor, I would gladly do that.

I think they should buff a few current pets that aren’t as viable, but I guess new pets could be cool as well.

They could buff pets that need it while offering new “skins” for pets. More or less the same abilities but different looks.

I would be in favor of new pets but I think making them grow or giving them new abilities is asking a bit much. Still, more utility would be nice and I think there are a lot of creatures that would make very good Ranger pets. Such as:

Skelk, Griffons, Basilisks, Dolphins, Minotaur, Raptors, Skale, Grub, most of which I’ve suggested in the past.

I would like more than anything to have my very own Basilisk or Skelk. I’ve been wanting those two creatures as pets for ages. Imagine the utility of being able to turn your foe to stone for a second or two or having a pet that can teleport to your foe!

Pets don’t level independently from you any more (thank god, leveling them was incredibly tedious in GW1), so their size is fixed.

Also, I want raptors.

I want new pets so badly. There are a multitude of animals and magical creatures in GW2 that have no pet version, and I’d like to see all of them at some point. The top of my list are Wind / Breeze / Reef Riders, Skales, and the new Beetles found in Dry Top. But seriously, add pretty much any new pet (that’s not just a reskin of one of the current ones) and I’ll be happy.

Unfortunately, I’m not sure if / when it’ll ever happen. The thing is, pets are in kind of a weird place where they’re 100% Ranger specific, and other classes have no equivalent to them. So adding new pets to the game is completely exclusive to Rangers, and other professions really have nothing they could add at the same time to “even it up”. And the devs have said before that they prefer to add stuff that applies to the highest number of players, not just specific groups.

I guess maybe the best chance for it would be during a major feature patch, probably one which added new skills or weapons. Rangers would still get pets on top of other stuff, but the other professions would at least get new stuff to play with at the same time as well.

I’m just a little annoyed we are the only profession that needs to go on a scavenger hunt to be able to use our class mechanic.

I’m ALL for Griffons and Rock dogs.. Sometimes Im sad that we have no like “war” pets. I mean drakehound vs Rock dog and Griffon vs Hawk…cmon.. Also probably impossible but I would be hyped to see some sort of zerg pet that could actually survive multiple Evil Red Circles

As I’ve said since the release of the game, I’d love to have a Nightmare Court Hound.

I too want new pets and agree with all the suggestions that have been provided. I think it would be really cool if a new pet was introduced with every new area or zone created. It would really draw the ranger community to play in those areas to acquire the pets. And I really think we need a Lion. We have Lions Arch don’t we. Why don’t we see any lions in the game LOL. I really hope some wonderful developer view this links. We should try to rally more rangers to post to thread!

I don’t remember that at all. I remember in pve you could use summons or give pets to your hero npc’s, but I don’t remember rangers having 2 pets.

What are you talking about? GW1 let you equip any 8 skills for your bar, it didn’t have utility slots.

There never were lions around Lion’s Arch, and lorewise I don’t think they’ve ever mentioned lions living in the area. In the first game, lions were introduced as a pet in the Nightfall campaign.

Which makes sense. Elona resembles Africa, while Tyria draws inspiration from Europe.

Adding more pets would give us more sills in a way. That would probably be unfair to other classes, unless u give them somethinmg to balance our extra Little add with. But adding new pet SKINS for PvE use wouldn’t unbalance anything.

I’d like a griffon….
